Study: EPA-approved GMO insecticide responsible for killing off bees, contaminating entire food chain

(NaturalNews) Early last year, leaked documents obtained by a Colorado beekeeper exposed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) illegitimate approval of clothianidin, a highly-toxic pesticide manufactured by Bayer CropScience that the regulatory agency knew was capable of killing off bees.

Now, a new study out of Purdue University in Indiana has not only confirmed, once again, that clothianidin is killing off bees, but also that clothianidin's toxicity is systemic throughout the entire food chain, which could one day lead to the catastrophic destruction of the food supply.

Monsanto big liars

Here is an old article that shows Monsanto doesn't care who is harmed by it's poison as long as they can make a fast buck.

I just posted a link to a documentary movie that goes over why stuff like this happens... lets just say it's no accident.

Also, small independent family farms are almost unheard of nowadays, just big farms owned by corporations (they are attempting to control our entire food supply).

Seeds are now considered intellectually property and farmers can be arrested for keeping them.

There have also been documented cases where certain chemical compounds have been mixed into pesticides and sprayed over crops. Chemical compounds known to cause infertility. Which leads to a very serious question, why would those in power knowingly want to sterilize millions of people?

It's going to be up to the states.

They will have to go on their own and boycott these products at the DEMAND of the people.

Brought to you by Bayer with thier history did you expect

anything different?

Nazi chairman

In 1956 Fritz ter Meer became chairman of Bayer's supervisory board. He was convicted at the Nuremberg trials for his part in carrying out experiments on human subjects at Auschwitz. He was found "guilty of count two, plunder and spoliation, and count three, slavery and mass murder" and sentenced to seven years imprisonment and served five years.[16]

As part of the reparations after World War I, Bayer assets, including the rights to its name and trademarks, were confiscated in the United States, Canada, and several other countries. In the United States and Canada, Bayer's assets and trademarks were acquired by Sterling Drug, a predecessor of Sterling Winthrop.

The Bayer company then became part of IG Farben, a German chemical company conglomerate. During World War II, the IG Farben used slave labor in factories attached to large slave labor camps, notably the sub-camps of the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp.[2] IG Farben owned 42.5% of the company that manufactured Zyklon B,[3] a chemical used in the gas chambers of Auschwitz and other extermination camps. After World War II, the Allies broke up IG Farben and Bayer reappeared as an individual business. The Bayer executive Fritz ter Meer, sentenced to seven years in prison by the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal, was made head of the supervisory board of Bayer in 1956, after his release.[4]

After 52 deaths were blamed on an alleged side effect of Bayer's anticholesterol drug Baycol, its manufacture and sale were discontinued in 2001. The side effect was rhabdomyolysis, causing renal failure, which occurred with a tenfold greater frequency in patients treated with Baycol in comparison to those prescribed alternate medications of the statin class.[20]

HIV infected blood products
Main article: Contaminated haemophilia blood products

A cite from http://www.haemophilia-litigation.com/, access date 31.05.2006:

"After 1978, there were four major companies in the United States engaged in the manufacture, production and sale of Factor VIII and IX: Armour Pharmaceutical Company, Bayer Corporation and its Cutter Biological division, Baxter Healthcare and its Hyland Pharmaceutical division and Alpha Therapeutic Corporation, which have been or are defendants in certain lawsuits.

The plaintiffs allege that the companies manufactured and sold blood factor products as beneficial "medicines" that were, in fact of likely to be contaminated with HIV and/or HCV. This resulted in the mass infection and/or deaths of thousands of haemophiliacs worldwide.[18]

It is believed that three of these companies, Alpha, Baxter, and Cutter, recruited and paid donors from high risk populations, including prisoners (i.e. prison-based collections), intravenous drug users, and plasma centers with predominantly homosexual donors, esp. in cities with large populations thereof, to obtain blood plasma used for the production of Factor VIII and IX. Plaintiffs allege that these companies failed to exclude donors, as mandated by federal law, with a history of viral hepatitis. Such testing could have substantially reduced the likelihood of plasma containing HIV and/ or HCV entering plasma pools."[19]

WOW- Didn't know any of that - this will make you think

I was too young to have worked on it - but Bayer in Wallingford CT is built INTO a mountain. A lot of guys I used to work construction with would always talk about the place. They said it was CRAZY. The security was unbelievalbe and the fact that is was built into the mountain was puzzling. Maybe not so after you read a little history.

The hope is that a non-bought

The hope is that a non-bought EPA would have banned this.

However, in the free market, what is preventing companies from using this?

Hunderds of bottom feeding attorneys bringing so many law suits

that would bring the companies shareholder value to zero, then 50 states attorney generals seeking criminal penalties on the management that would cause them to resign and flee to countries without extradition agreements with the USA. LOL

The judicial system is too

The judicial system is too corrupt.

In any case, once a company like Mosanto wins one or two cases, it will become shut and close; precedent becomes set. You can't beat the justice system with sheer volume; that is actually a very good thing that you can't do that.

On a state-level, I doubt it would work. State governments are often bought just as easily.

No perfect solution

But the agencies that have been put into place to protect us clearly do not, quite the opposite. Dr. Paul talks a lot about property rights and pursuing companies like these through the courts, which of course then puts us at the mercy of a similarly corrupt judicial system. A complete overhaul of this "toxic" system from the ground up will be required, IMO.

You have GMO in the headline, but this article relates directly to pesticides and not GMO, just as harmful to bees and us but not what's being discussed here. Not challenging the info, just the headline. You know where I stand on this issue. Thanks for posting. : )

He's repeating the erroneous title from NaturalNews

Commenters on that article also complained that the pesticide itself is not a GMO. Both titles should be changed, IMO.

thanks, I didn't click on the NaturalNews link but the one which went right to the article. Definitely an erroneous headline and so far not corrected. Clarification appreciated.

Thing is GMO in a headline does bring more attention.

EPA, FDA, are total sellout organizations.

Hate em.

It is good to see some are waking up

but I hold little hope of anything being done. I am sure Monsanto and Bayer have come out with more lies to discredit these scientists. I am sure Monsanto is busy donating to this college so they can get the scientists fired. This has been their mode of operation in the past, anyone that speaks out against them gets fired.

The Honey Bees are like the miners canary in the caves, when it dies the miners get out. It is sad their is no place for us to flee to. I have done research on the net on people dying from this crap, seems farmers are dropping like flies. I know of two pesticide handlers that have died from cancer. I believe we are going to have an epidemic of cancer in our future.

It so sad because Monsanto has laws passed that protect them from any type of prosecution of wrong doing. So they can legally pollute all they want and no legal action can be taken against them. They done a good job buying Congressmen and senators. My Congressman gets $10K annually from them.

Break down of both sides

Below is an article that was published in the NY Times by a highly regarded science writer.

He breaks down how the experiments were done and provides commentary from both sides of the debate. Definitely worth reading and not as biased as NatureNews.

Nah--mass media caused that.

Nah--mass media caused that. They've got their champion and, like Bush supporters of yesteryear, are blinded by Obama's election.

GMOs are some of the stuff what's facilitating the obesity epidemic. Organic is sold at a premium because there's a limited quantity--most of the rest of global crops is genetically modified.

high fructose corn syrup..

diabetes epidemic. don't eat anything with that in it. check labels carefully; it's in everything.

The solution is simple --

We should genetically engineer new bees to be resistant to the pesticides. What could possibly go wrong?

"Government is an institution which prevents injustice other than such as it commits itself." -Ibn Khaldūn (1332-1406)

Monsanto is trying

to do just that. They bought out a genetic company based in Missouri that has figured out how the bees were dying from the pesticide. So now they are using the information to develop Honey Bees resistant to the pesticides and will work all GMO,s. Sound pretty good until you realize you are no longer protected from the pesticides being in the honey. If a bee get a load of pesticides in nectar now it dies before it gets back to the hive.

I as a beekeeper would never have these bees because I have always been devoted to Organic Honey. No pesticide use on my part ever.
