Tom Woods: "My Biggest Announcement Ever" - Liberty Classroom Launched

As everyone works to win over new converts to Paul's platform, it's vital to have the knowledge necessary to win over the arguments that are bound to come up in the context of current events, economics, history, etc.

I would assume most people on here are familiar with Tom Woods, and if not, you should look him up. Yesterday he just announced the opening of an online classroom that will include lectures about US history, economics, etc from the pro-freedom perspective (ie most likely not what you learned in your public school systems). His new website is Tom Woods's Liberty Classroom"

The announcement is on his blog at: Tom Woods: "My Biggest Announcement Ever"

I highly recommend taking a look and signing up if you can. The most important part of the intellectual revolution is to be as informed and knowledgeable on these topics as possible when working on winning people over. Tom has always been an excellent resource and his work is befitting of a true scholar.

Commerce with all nations, alliance with none.--Thomas Jefferson

No one here knows who I am.

But, for what it's worth, Tom Woods is unbelievable. His list of credentials is staggering. He carries the establishment education and completely obliterates it with historical and economical fact. He is (in my opinion), of all liberty-minded and libertarian scholars that I've come across since being cured by Dr. Paul, the most concise and well spoken of any of them.

I see some doubts about him among the comments. Someone said that's he's on our side. That's the truth, to be sure, but in a great way, that's a massive understatement. The man's whole career is based on advancing liberty and educating people about it. In the intellectual arena, when he takes on an opponent, he doesn't just take them out, he DESTROYS them. And he does it in such a way that a complete novice (at whatever topic) can understand him. And, just like the rest of us, he's an avid Ron Paul supporter.

One of the first things I ever came across that had to do with Ron Paul was a YouTube video of supporters. I remember a man standing on a street corner with a hand-made cardboard sign that said "Google Ron Paul." So I did. That changed my life.

Google Tom Woods. You won't regret it.

Tom Woods is the MAN.

Tom Woods is awesome!

It really doesn't get better than him!

Already signed up!

Thank you Mr. Woods!

There is already a liberty

There is already a liberty classroom. It's called the internet. I assume anyone who is reading this has access to it. The best thing about it? It's free. Be weary of anyone trying to generate a profit off the back of Ron Paul supporters. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against profit, just not when the product is readily available for free.

"In reality, the Constitution itself is incapable of achieving what we would like in limiting government power, no matter how well written."

~ Ron Paul, End the Fed

I disagree. You're right

I disagree. You're right that a lot of similar material is already available for free online. However, that would be similar material & not the same exact material, at least from what I see.

It appears that they are simply providing a valuable service for a fair price.

This is the free-market in action. If you prefer to do all of your own research then you're free to do so. Those who want this potentially higher quality content from vetted experts will probably find the annual fee to be very reasonable.

Here's something from their FAQ:

"The equivalent of a year-long course in Austrian (free-market) economics will be available in early summer."

I might join just to take that course.

If my time is worth .50 per hour, I couldn't compile this info

If my time is worth .50 per hour, I couldn't compile this info in an easy to use format in less than 400 hours. 400 x .50 = 200

Thank you Tom. An awesome product at an unbelievable price.

Are you serious?

I'd hardly suggest pricing a flat $99 annual fee for access to hundreds of lectures from renowned scholars who've written best-selling books and have offered their time to interact on forums responding to comments/questions about topic-related material is trying to "profit off the back of Ron Paul supporters."

I'm curious what you would say about spending several hundred dollars per credit for a half semester course at any college/university that will probably not come close to covering the same amount of material at your disposal from this site at only a fraction of the price. Should the internet displace all colleges/universities as well?

I don't have any skin in this game, but I think this is an amazing offering from gifted scholars offering their time and knowledge at a reasonable price.

That's the spirit

Well, if you have found an entire, eighty-four lecture course on Western civ from a pro-liberty perspective, and a 60-lecture course on U.S. history by smart liberty people, and you also know a way to ask experts in these fields all the questions you want, all for free, could you let us in on that?

The product is not the

The product is not the information, it is the information organized into a teaching style format and access to experts and pillars of the Liberty movement. This is an excellent product.

I could learn all this on the internet for free and sort through what information I valued and did not value and cover these subjects over many years. Or I can purchase access to a concise and thought out delivery of hundreds of hours of information without putting as much work into it, thus freeing up my time for other productive means.... I could build my own car with enough time and access to resources, but the advantages are what I value.

Also: Free Constitution classes by Michael Badnarik

Love this guy too. Former LP candidate back in the day, put all his classes up on the web for folks to download:

http://archive.org/details/Michael_Badnarik

Seems to have dropped off the radar since his heart attack 5ish years ago. BTW, some detail is dated in his classes cause he talks about the Liberty Dollar and how it's gaining traction ... now we know what happened to that. :-(

Either way, a kick ass 7 hours of Constitutional history. Definitely makes you much, much better at articulating your points during discussions... or "discussions" with The Man. :)

Thanks for tip

I started to listen last night...Love it!

2 Chron 7:13-14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

For those that have already signed up:

are his/their lectures easily listened to as a podcast/audio only version? i.e. can i download as mp3 to my phone and listen in the car? i'd hate to be listening and then realize i need to be seeing something along w/ the audio

bottom line: i love me some Tom Woods so i'll probably sign up and give him my money either way. ;)

Yes, it looks like you can

Yes, it looks like you can download any lecture using audio in mp3 format. They just put up an FAQ page as well: http://www.libertyclassroom.com/faq/

Great site....but I wish for 1 thing

The classes offered look fantastic here, and I plan to sign up, but there's one important class missing: Introduction to Liberty

When I discovered Ron Paul last summer, I looked all over the web for a "one-stop shop" that summarized the liberty philosophy and what it's all about.

Thomas Mullen's book, "A Return to Common Sense" does just that, so I think Tom Woods should offer an Introduction to Liberty course using Mullen's book as the text. That way newcomers have a place to get educated in the basics before delving into important historical and economic topics.

2 Chron 7:13-14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Read Dr. Paul's book Liberty Defined.

I am a Liberty Newbie

How do you know if this site is to be trusted? How do you know the history will be correct without a spin? Just asking because I am very interested, but leary at the same time. I want to make sure my $99 is well spent. Also would be nice to have a trial run class just to see...

These guys are reliable

Dr. Paul wrote the foreword to Meltdown, by Woods, and has had Woods open for him at many of his events. He is on our side. Same for the other guys.

Like any history, you are

Like any history, you are responsible for checking out the facts behind it for yourself...that has been the problem, this country has been spoon-fed a particular slant of history and swallowed it without chewing! Woods, as well as many others in the Paul Camp have done an excellent job of research to uncover the truth, distinguishing fact from historical fiction.

Legitimate questions. I would suggest contacting them directly through their site and allow them to respond.

I just found

a video of him on his site so I am listening. I wanted to ask DP people as I was thinking I would get an impartial response, but if I ask them about their site, of course they are going to give a good report. Thanks!

Sorry, I was mainly

Sorry, I was mainly addressing your idea for a trial course which seemed like a good idea in my opinion.

The best advice I can give is to check out Woods' work on his blog and some of his youtube videos as you are doing so you can form an opinion before making any financial committment.

Thank you for your dialog

Appreciate the time you have taken to speak with me about this :)

What do you think about this site?

Is it a reliable source for history? I'd like to brush up on history as I never much cared for it, but am now finding it fascinating. I am new to the Liberty movement and don't know all the trustworthy sources out there, nor the names that go along with them...

Of their listed faculty

Of their listed faculty members, I am only familiar with Tom Woods and some of Gutzman. Both are quite reputable, renowned scholars. This is a Woods' led project, I believe, and I would certainly put my trust in his judgement of faculty members over most other educational institutions. Personally, I think the minimal annual fee is very much worth it for the Woods and Gutzman lectures alone. I've watched a couple already and they are well done. I believe most lectures also provide additional resources for more in depth study of the topics discussed.
