Calling All Delegate Alternates!

With Sen. Santorum suspending his presidential campaign, there will be many delegate spots opening up at the upcoming county, district, and state conventions as his precinct delegates lose interest in the process. This means that alternate delegates just became a lot more important. If you are a county, district, or state convention alternate, make every effort to attend. If you are a Paul delegate leader/coordinator, do your best to get your alternates to the convention.

If we do not fill open spots with our alternates (spots we are entitled to, if our people were elected at the previous level), the establishment will seek to fill the delegate slots with party hacks (AKA Romney supporters) instead. Don't let Romney eat our lunch!

I will be posting regularly to reflect upcoming conventions.

May 02 Update: Now that Newt Gingrich has also suspended his campaign, there will likely be many more delegate slots opening up for Paul alternates, particularly at upcoming conventions in the South. Liberty alternates, fill those open spots in Dixie!

Oklahoma State Convention results in rival delegate slates!

The irregularity-ridden Oklahoma State Convention was capped off by a bizarre finish, as Liberty supporters reconvened in the parking lot of the Convention facility and selected a second "at large" slate:

http://www.dailypaul.com/232784/oklahoma-gop-state-conventio...

Scenarios for resolving the rival slate problem are discussed here:

Many of the pro-Paul delegates and alternates ended up being on site for more that 13 hours, concluding business in the darkened parking lot. Thank you for your dedication, Oklahoma Liberty alternates!

Arizona State Convention alternates make a key difference!

The proceedings at the Arizona State convention ran hours longer than scheduled and took a strange turn when the delegates were ejected by law enforcement at 9:00pm. The results of the Convention remain unclear, but there is a recap here:

http://www.dailypaul.com/232819/arizona-convention-live-stream

There was an unqualified bright spot, however. The State Convention divided into District Caucuses, where National delegates were elected from each District. Liberty patriots were victorious in District 1, and, as the following testimonial makes clear, alternates provided the margin of victory for one National delegate:

You made a big difference yesterday, Arizona Liberty alternates! Thank you!

Not to forget that when the establishment breaks

the rules and gets caught possibly losing their delegate seats, we can be there to step in!!

Background:
Oklahoma is entitled to 43 National delegates, 40 of which are allocated per the result of the March 06 Primary (14 Santorum, 13 Romney, 13 Gingrich). The remaining 3 "Bigwig" delegates are unpledged, but will likely support Romney in Tampa.

Source: http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P12/OK-R

Importance:
At the CD Conventions in March and April, Liberty patriots won 9 of 15 National delegates, along with at least 9 alternates (There is the possibility of picking up 3 more delegates, as the results of the CD-1 Convention are being challenged). The State Convention will select 25 more delegates and alternates for Tampa. Because the delegates for Santorum and Gingrich will likely be unbound in Tampa, Dr. Paul will probably control a plurality of delegates for the purpose of qualifying him for the Presidential nomination ballot under Rule 40(b), if he can sweep the 25 delegates at State this weekend. The Indiana Primary is Tuesday, May 08

Who: All registered voters

Indiana is allocated 46 National Convention delegates. The delegate breakdown is as follows:

27 Congressional District (3 per CD x 9 CD)
16 At Large
3 "Bigwig" (unbound, nonelected, likely pro-Romney)

Source: http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P12/WV-R

Primary voters in each CD will allocate 3 National delegate slots to the plurality winner of their CD (so the delegates will be bound for the 1st ballot), but will not select the actual National delegates. The West Virginia Primary is Tuesday, May 08

Who: Republicans and Independents
When: 6:30am to 7:30pm
Where: Click here for phone numbers to call for precinct locations

West Virginia is allocated 31 National Convention delegates, 28 of which are selected by voters at the same time as their choice for GOP nominee. The delegate breakdown is as follows:

9 Congressional District (3 per CD x 3 CD)
19 At Large
3 "Bigwig" (unbound, nonelected, likely pro-Romney)

Source: http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P12/WV-R

Please see the Green Papers link above for the names of Paul delegates to vote for. As green Papers indicates, Gov. Romney is running too many delegate candidates in both the CD and At Large categories, while Dr. Paul is running exactly the right amount. This means that Paul could lose the popular vote, yet win the majority of delegates. When combined with what will likely be light overall turnout (since the nomination battle is generally thought to be over), a focused effort by Mountaineer patriots could result in an upset win for Dr. Paul! Victory at the State Convention in Maine!

Maine Liberty patriots seized all of the National Convention delegates at stake this weekend (21 out of 21), as well as all 21 alternates! An additional 3 delegates are reserved for GOP insiders (likely Romney supporters):

http://www.dailypaul.com/230910/maine-state-convention-updat...

All of Maine's delegates and alternates will be unbound in Tampa, so Dr. Paul has picked up 21 delegates, to 3 for Gov. Romney. Well done, Maine Paul supporters!

Maine Liberty alternates, congratulations and get ready for Tampa!

P.S.: Liberty forces captured the chair of the Convention, setting the stage for the later delegate sweep, when they won a crucial early vote 1,118 to 1,114:

http://www.pressherald.com/news/Thousands-pour-in-to-GOP-con...

In a vote this close, it stands to reason that Paul alternates who faithfully attended the Convention, and then filled in for absent delegates, provided the margin of victory. Liberty alternates, this goes to show the importance of attending your convention. We are counting on you!

A Constitutional, Christian conservative who voted for Ron and stands with Rand

Don't let Romney get all the alternates

He will try to unseat our delegates and replace them with alternates if they don't tow the line.

Yes, we want to get as many alternates as possible...

... and we need to recognize our alternates and encourage them to attend their conventions, which is why I created this thread. Reports from this weekend's conventions indicate that we obtained many new National Convention alternates:

Virginia: 3 out of 3 alternates (and 3 out of 3 delegates)

Nevada: 3 out of 25 alternates (and 22 out of 25 delegates -- the particulars of the delegate selection process in Nevada kept us from being able to obtain more than 3 alternates)

Maine: 21 out of 21 alternates (and 21 out of 21 delegates)

Victory at the State Convention in Nevada!

Nevada Liberty patriots seized 22 out of the 25 National Convention delegate slots available today:

http://www.lvrj.com/news/paul-takes-22-neveda-gop-delegates-...

An additional 3 delegates are reserved for GOP insiders (likely Romney supporters). Nevada's delegate binding rules, when applied to the results of the February 04 Precinct Caucuses, cause 20 delegates to be bound to Gov. Romney, and 8 delegates to be bound to Dr. Paul. This means that some of the 22 Liberty delegates will have to vote for Romney on the first ballot only, but will be free to vote as they wish on all other matters:
