This is an excellent opportunity to give @MerleHaggard a warm welcome to Twitter

He's HUGE HUGE in Texas. Many don't know the story of the Nashville Country Music revolt by Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. They all left Nashville and made Austin Texas the real country music capital of the world. Just think Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton vs any of these five.

I saw him play in Oklahoma

I saw him play in Oklahoma once.

Another good one: http://youtu.be/evw-vjclHg0

I can't prove it, but he

I can't prove it, but he seems more like a Rick Perry guy to me. Any evidence he's a Paul supporter?

No Proof but he ought to like the Paul philosophy

A quote from Merle: "Financially we're broke. Nobody has any confidence in the man in charge. We're torturing people; We're not known to be that kind of people. People all over the world look up to us, and we're not setting a very good example."

Interesting.

No proof but evidence

He came on twitter today, possibly because Texas finally means something in a Primary.

His lyrics are pretty compelling evidence

I wish a buck was still silver
It was back when the country was strong
Back before Elvis
Before the Vietnam war came along

Before The Beatles and 'Yesterday'
When a man could still work, still would
The best of the free life behind us now
And are the good times really over for good?

Are we rolling down hill
Like a snowball headed for Hell?
With no kind of chance
For the Flag or the Liberty Bell

Wish a Ford and a Chevy
Could still last ten years, like they should
Is the best of the free life behind us now?
Are the good times really over for good?

I wish Coke was still Cola
And a joint was a bad place to be
It was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV

Before microwave ovens
When a girl could still cook and still would
The best of the free life behind us now
Are the good times really over for good?

Are we rolling down hill
Like a snowball headed for Hell?
With no kind of chance
For the Flag or the Liberty Bell

Wish a Ford and a Chevy
Could still last ten years, like they should
Is the best of the free life behind us now?
Are the good times really over for good?

Stop rolling down hill
Like a snowball headed for Hell
Stand up for the Flag
And let's all ring the Liberty Bell

Let's make a Ford and a Chevy
Still last ten years like they should
The best of the free life is still yet to come
The good times ain't over for good

One day, I'm gonna' change my name to Dale Lee Paul

I can't agree with his if you don't love it, leave it

I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
[Lyrics from www.EasyLyrics.org]
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
I read about some squirrely guy,
Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.
An' I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,

Runnin' down the way of life,

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

I love Merle

I saw him at a Willie Nelson concert in Austin.

Debbie's picture

I love him too!

I've never had a chance to see him live, but he is a great musician.
