May 24, 2012 Texas Republican Presidential Debate!

Sign the Petition!!

Why This Is Important

The Republican Party of Texas is close to finalizing a deal that will bring a nationally televised Republican Presidential Debate to Houston, TX on May 24th, 2012. The debate will be the first one held since the March 3, 2012 hosted in Wilmington Air Park in Wilmington, Ohio. Now, is the perfect time to have another Presidential Debate as the states of Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia, Nebraska, Oregon, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Texas will all be voting soon. Collectively, these states hold 662 delegates that could change the course of the entire Republican race.

It would cause great shame to the Republican Party to deny the constituents of these states a final debate that includes all continuing candidates as such could set clear the platforms of each candidate. With politically minded lineups on both sides of the fence, it is imperative that the constituents know EXACTLY where the candidates stand on the issues that face America as well as their respective states. New details come out about the platforms of the candidates on a daily basis and it is impossible to keep up with the updates. A public debate can clarify confusion.

If that is not enough motivation, here is why We the People believe it is important that ALL candidates jump into the political debate arena in Texas:

1. Candidate Stances on Critical Issues: Topics will range from national issues, such as foreign policy, balancing the budget, and health care to state dilemmas, such as illegal immigration and education. The Republicans will present different sides of each issue as well as how their plans differ from the views of the incumbent. Therefore, it is imperative that the constituents know EXACTLY where each candidate stands on the issues and hear the opposing opinions that surround them. Identifying points and counterpoints for even the best-crafted message can only strengthen the argument. If an argument is solid there should be no fear of losing.

2. Public discourse: The Republicans will be able to show that they can engage in civilized debate of critical issues. It is imperative that the constituents are able to trust that their nominated candidate can stay on topic and not resort to accusations that are not well researched or are not based in proven fact. Designing a well-structured clearly articulated format for debate creates an environment for people to speak up.

3. Agreement/Disagreement: Constituents will be able to see where the candidates agree and disagree not only with each other but also with the incumbent. There is a difference between being told differences in ideology and seeing said ideology play out in debate. It is expected that there will be some conformity as well as differentiating sides. Each citizen is entitled to know just where the lines are actually drawn in order to form a clear cut decision on who should receive the binding vote of said individual. Inviting and debating opposing viewpoints disarms whatever resistance resides in the system.

4. Participation of Constituents: When candidates are on the campaign trail they mostly just talk about what said candidate is going to do for the state in which they currently reside. On the other hand, public debate covered by a news station gives candidates the opportunity to talk about national issues with a national participating audience. As it is the 21st century, people from all across the nation will be able to participate by asking questions. This promotes a mass understanding of the issues that ALL Americans face. A structured well-moderated debate is a novel and powerful alternative to another webcast or town meeting.

Newt put off quitting the race...

...Things like this debate is why Newt was stopped, put off quitting the race, so it would not be a debate between only Ron Paul and Mittens...

Please people. THE DP should have another 1000 plus people to sign this tonight!

"Liberty shall prevail"
RON PAUL~Keepin em honest since 76'

Just signed. Would LOVE to

Just signed. Would LOVE to see a Paul vs. Romney debate!! Especially on his home turf :-)

Might not work, but signed it

Might not work, but signed it anyway. :)

He will have to take that chance.. he is an elitist.

They hate elitists in Texas (unless you act like a cowboy).

Romney can not play the cowboy role without looking the fool.

Can Mitt Romney afford to piss off the entire state of Texas?

"If Romney is perceived as snubbing Texas, he could depress turnout in what the Texas Republican Party will happily tell you is the largest Republican state in the nation."

Oh please, Mitt...please snub Texas.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

Not Gonna Happen

I hate to say it, but there's no way this takes place. Romney has nothing to gain by it. The media has already anointed him the nominee, so you're not going to get any press that he's backing down. I'd love to see it, but I'd be shocked if it took place.

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.
John Adams

Would love to see it but

I doubt if Gingrich will be able to stay in the race for another week, And for Romney to show up for a debate would be an admission that he still has competition and I really don't think he will take a chance breaking that illusion.

I agree this isn't going to help Paul YET

A debate now would help Gingrich, not Paul. Gingrich's time is limited, then we absolutely need a debate between Romney and Paul - it will help in selecting delegates as well as firming or changing delegate's minds for Ron Paul for Tampa, as well as popular vote before the two biggies we're rooting for Ron Paul to win - Texas & California.

Why would Romney debate Paul?

You're wasting your time. I would LOVE this debate but it's not going to happen.

Romneys team is doing everything in it's power to paint the narrative of him as the presumptive nominee, especially since Santorum has dropped out of the race. He's turning his attention to Obama and not even acknowledging publicly that there is a campaign still taking place.

Even if the debate was scheduled Romney isn't going to attend it and have to debate the most Conservative member of Congress. Why would he do that and further alienate the GOP base that still mistakenly thinks they are "conservatives"?

As much as I would love this to happen it NEVER WILL it would be one of the single biggest campaign mistakes ever made by a candidate if Romney accepted.

This would be great but it

This would be great but it couldn't help the good Dr. here in NC. We vote May 8th.

You mean Straw Poll

..The REAL VOTE is within the caucus...and you know anything can happen there.
So a debate could very likely assist RP's strategy for an open convention vote/nomination process by August.
Romney will shrink from the spotlight if he can until after RNC/Tampa, where he expects to inherit the nomination.
We simply must create a scenario to force him into it.

Use the Freedom-Bomb Funding to effect this!
It is a last-ditch strategy before Tampa!

" is imperative that

" is imperative that the constituents know EXACTLY where the candidates stand on the issues...."

No matter how many debates there are, we will NEVER know exactly where Mittens stands on anything! Hell, I don't even think he'll ever know!

Up top..

These debates will be the real deal.

Was like that friend that you don't like but always seems to be around. He was loud, annoying, overly imposing, rude, would cute people off, didn't like to wait for his turn. Now that he is out I strongly believe that there will be a lot more talking opportunities for President Paul. Sure the Grinch is great a debater, but Paul has something neither Gingrich or Romney has, integrity and now that it is only three men on that stage it will shine like a beacon of light on darkest hillside. I say another debater is exactly what we need and I say we need it now.

Another debate will raise the Grinch from the Dead

Tactically speaking, the best time to demand another debate would be after Gingrich drops out. Gingrich is the best debater I've ever seen--debating is the one and only advantage he has--and the prospect of another debate would re-energize Gingrich's campaign. Even though it's impossible for Gingrich to win, the media is looking for a reason to channel the anti-Romney energy in his direction instead of Paul's and one final debate would do that.

Once the final nail is hammered into Gingrich's coffin and his campaign is buried, that's when we ought to get loud and demand another debate. But I think it's a huge mistake to do it before then.

    Would this..

Would this not help the cause of making a brokered convention more possible?

Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts.
    -Patrick Henry

    This debate will never

This debate will never happen.Rick ask for this ,and he drop.Romney don't want anymore debates.Spend energy for some more productive things than on Obamas social groups.

    have to agree with freeman

Romney doesn't need the coverage. The plan could backfire as well. Newt is a good debater and Dr Paul is a good human being. By May 24th if Newt has not already endorsed Romney, can you imagine his announcement the night of the debate that he is there as a Romney surrogate. Whats Newt's campaign debt? 4.5 M ? He's already tried to sell his endorsement to Mitt, but Romney would have none of it. 4.5 M would be a cheap price for the GOP to effectively conclude the primary at that point. IMHO

    But if WE..

..Can get NEWT to go MSM via press conference regarding this:

It will be to OUR ADVANTAGE.
Newt wants to "sell" his campaign debt.
Mittens has the cash...they despise each other.
Newt can whisper in Diane Sawyer's ear re: Monday's Interview.
Now all WE have to do is get someone to whisper in Newt's ear to effect the controversy........
It will bring Mittens to the debate...even if Newt is there.
Newt can do the dirty work.

"Beyond the blackened skyline, beyond the smoky rain, dreams never turned to ashes up until.........
    ...Everything CHANGED !!

    Cowardly Romney won't do it

He knows the other two will slam him big time.

If it turned out to be just Ron & Mitt

they would just give Paul 90 instead of 89 seconds.

    One More Done!

Sent email to each campaign espousing the importance of a final debate in Texas.

Watch this dry yet astonishing Dr. Robert Beck cancer treatment lecture on Google Video - search "Suppressed Medical Discovery" -

we should demand debates cause the race is not over!

There are still issues that have no consensus in the republican party.

    No matter how many people

sign or no matter how much noise anybody makes, you couldn't drag Romney to one of these things at this point for all the tea in China. What would he have to gain? He is being touted far and wide as the "presumptive nominee." In papers, on the internet, on TV...all it could do is cost him, and why should he bother? Does he need the publicity? I think not. It's a nice idea, but hopeless.

    All I can say is...

..Dr. Paul and Newt are going for this but Romney is questionable.

i hope they still have one

even if it is just Paul and Gingrich. maybe it'll make it onto CSpan
