MEDIA with their COLLECTIVE heads in the sand? My editorial / email to the WASHINGTON POST today. ENJOY!

[Written today in response to a silly article in the Washington Post by Dan Balz entitled "The Wrong Time for Romney or Obama to Relax.". Hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! ]

----------------------------------------------

"First they ignore you.
Then they ridicule you.
Then they fight you.
Then you win."

Mr. Balz,

Thanks for the good laugh today.

I read your article in the Washington Post today, thinking by way of the title "The Wrong time for Romney or Obama to Relax" would include one of the chief reasons that Romney or Obama can not relax: namely, because of the existential threat that Dr. Paul, his message, his campaign, and his immense, growing (albeit clandestine) grassroots support...poses to both Romney and Obama.

But of course, true to corporatist media propaganda standards of procedure, you simply failed to mention Ron Paul, at all.

If it weren't so blatant and deliberate, it might be funny. (It sure seems like a joke!) Being the good sense of humor people we are as Paul supporters, having come to expect this from you guys, we like to laugh it off anyway...while we continue to work underground and below the radar in advancing Paul's campaign.

And make no mistake about it: Paul is in it for the long haul. He is the big wildcard in this race...and will remain so.

Save for a few bright spots, being the good cognitive-dissonance-groupthink-disorder-corporatist-media-establishment-conglomerate that the Post is certainly a part of, we have learned to take everything the Post says, and the Media in general, with a grain of salt:

If the Media states something, then instinctively we cross-check it for lies, mistakes, and misinformation.

And if the media does NOT state the obvious--or simply ignores it altogether--then automatically our assumption becomes: "What are they trying to hide?"

Let me challenge you this:

Have you checked out one of the latest Rasmussen polls where Paul beats Obama in a head to head? And in that same poll, Romney lost to Obama?

Have you checked into the delegates that Paul continues to amass?

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_20398638/politics

Have you even bothered to see the immense crowds that Dr. Paul commands whenever he shows up to speak?

http://i.imgur.com/UvJTT.jpg

I am one of those recent Paul converts (about six months ago), an ex-neocon, whose presidential voting record was Reagan Bush Bush Dole Bush Bush McCain.

But I, like so many ex-neocons like me, won't be so foolish to vote for the Establishment Republican ticket this year. No sir. And NO way!

You may have also heard of "Blue Republicans"? (Democrats who are so betrayed by Obama's serial broken 'peace' promises in regards to foreign policy, ending the wars, closing Gitmo, etc. and broken civil liberties promises, such as ending the war on medical cannabis, ending corporate special interests, etc...who, because of those betrayals, are turning 'Republican' just for 2012...to vote for Dr. Paul).

From both sides of the political aisle, our numbers are growing, every day, and we are not going away, even though I am sure the Establishments of both parties, as well as their friends with the corporatist Media empire, sincerely wish that we were.

And the longer the Media blacks out coverage of the R3volution and continues to listen to their corporatist Media Overlords that tell them to black out the R3volution, the more plainly obvious it becomes...that good honest journalism...has become a thing of the past.

The great thing is, the Media closing their collective eyes and ears and pretending we are not there, will not change the truth of the matter. The Media collectively shirking their fiduciary responsibility to report the truth, with their collective heads in the sand, does not make us go away.

To the exact contrary. It emboldens us, further motivates us for the fight ahead, and adds major fuel to our fire.

When you have an honest product to sell--and Dr. Paul's message and political philosophy is just that--this is actually fun. Nothing like having a cause that one can actually believe in.

I am sure you are familiar with Victor Hugo's immortal quote: "No army can stop...an idea...whose time has come."

And I would add: "No media empire can silence...or ignore...as the case may be...an idea...whose time has come."

Ron Paul 2012.

Sincerely,
Christopher Miller

EPILOGUE. Reposting comments to my letter here from one DailyPauler "sandymonroe" which I think you will find inspiring. I certaianly did. Below are sandymonroe's comments: :)

BEGIN QUOTE: "It was last August that I began studying and I studied myself right into the truth with Dr. Paul and the challenge he brought to me to determine whether his views were constitutional or not. Now that fire of liberty burns in my heart as well, and it must be similar to the fire that burned in the heart of our founding fathers that allowed them to commit all to the cause of freedom and revolution from the chains that oppressed them. I voted similar to you with reluctance many times... but NEVER again - never. I know too much and now I - along with you and millions of others will spend the rest of my years working to restore the freedoms we have lost and some we have never had that we should have had at the local, state and national level. Even if they slow us down, they cannot stop us because we see. You cannot 'un-see' once you have seen. The heart, the mind, once expanded by an idea cannot return to its original proportions. It and you are forever changed.

And this IS the revolution - for the hearts and minds of the people - for us to long and hunger for freedom once again and to see how much tyranny is being pushed upon us. And this is why Dr. Paul's number of supporters never goes down - it only goes up and up and up... because the fire of freedom and cause of liberty burns ever more brightly as it is shared from one to another.

I have SO much to learn and it is so exciting to learn - to see our history for real, to learn our constitution they way it should have been taught, to be part of we are called to be...

Great letter and if you don't get a response the suggestion for all of us to email on your behalf sounds like a good idea. Again - welcome - so nice to have you here!!!" -END QUOTE

Loved it!

You know, with all these MSM outlets reporting the same thing, and if Romney does lose to Ron Paul, they all will have to open that proverbial mouth and insert that more proverbial foot, then swallow some crow for dessert!

Reporting from Tampa

This is Chip Willerd and my fellow newscaster Bimba Slutlicker. Bimba how's it going down there? Thats some short skirt you are wearing !

Thanks Chip. We'll they've descended to vote in the only candidate left in the race - Mitt Romney. And they are counting the ballots right now.

Thats just great Slutlicker. We can't wait to hear Romney's formal declaration. Ladies and gentlemen these conventions are mere formalities. Just big parties for the party big wigs. Well the votes are are you ready for the anouncement bimba?

"This ... This can't be. It says .... Ron Paul"

"Excuse me?"

"It says Ron Paul won the count. By a landslide"

"Oh dear. But there was only one person in the race Mitt Romney. And he won every single poll. He won every single election"

"It appears all that was a lie. It was just the media lying to the people. The truth is Paul was amassing tens of thousands of supporters everywhere he went."

"There must be some mistake. Romney has to win. He has the money. He had the media. He had the corrupt election officials"

"Well, that's true Bimba, but it looks like Paul had one thing up his sleeve that no one counted on."

"What's that Chip?"

Truth is stranger than fiction, no doubt. Thanks for this vignette. I agree with your premise.

Super! One thing I never

Super! One thing I never thought of before, you touched on in your letter. If they do not report on us and our crowds, and our work inside our party, then we CAN do more, under the radar, unknown by the masses. It won't help that much to get Ron elected this time, probably, because candidates need media attention. However, the People are getting stronger and more organized. We know it, but many do not. They are hiding us, as we grow.

sharkhearted's picture

Yep. And as the number grows...

...the harder it is to hide us. :-)

Beautiful! May I suggest one little correction?

You wrote about "both sides of the political aisle"...

But aren't they really both sides of the same coin...Both wings of the same bird...Both sellers to different buyers? That's really all they are.

I point this out because the sheep need to understand that there truly IS no difference at all between the two. Except for the letter that sticks after their name when they have an interview. The more often the sheep hear this from us, the sooner they will begin asking questions.

And you know how loud the alarm clock rings when questions get asked.

Perth is beautiful...spent a lot of time checking it out

Such an interesting area....a big city on the edge of the world.....surrounded by nothing but ocean to your west north and south.

You Aussies keep standing for freedom like you do best...and soon we will be doing the same thing across the globe.

Super, super!

BMAC

Excellent.

Thank you for doing that! It is appreciated!

One correction: The term is

One correction: The term is "Blue Republican" - Democrats are blue by definition. I qualify as a Blue Republican because I have never, in nearly fifty years of voting, voted Republican but am registering as a Republican so I can vote for Ron Paul in the California primary.

sharkhearted's picture

Crap! Thanks for catching that.

You are right. I KNEW that lol. Just wasn't thinking when I wrote it. I will issue a correction.

One question - it seems like you've studied social psychology; can you explain to me how cognitive dissonance theory would play a role in explaining media tricks? (Writing a paper this week for social psych class and definitely am in brainstorming mode ;) thanks!

adam t

sharkhearted's picture

Thanks, Adam! And thank you for asking...

I haven't studied social psychology, other than a casual layman observer. :-)

Many of us have observed, we think cognitive dissonance (which is individual) can go hand in hand with "groupthink disorder" (which can be thought of as a sort of mass cognitive dissonance).

You can see this phenomenon even in the scientific realm where one would expect objectivity to reign supreme. But it doesn't. As a matter of fact, the truth, even in science, can be grossly distorted.

The best example of this is the catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (CAGW) scam that came to a head a few years ago, and now is experiencing a well-deserved decline.

Pundits, media, politicians, and even the scientists themselves joined together in the groupthink phenomenon that was the process of some very flawed research, and the collective effort of each individuals's cognitive dissonance where, motivated by "saving the planet" they wanted to believe the research was correct, and that the model extrapolations were fact, ergo, it must be "true."

Well, it wasn't. [Even today, though the Associated Press continues to print CAGW or "Climate Change" as gospel truth. Unbelievable.]

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-01-31/news/ct-oped-0...

We pride ourselves as homo sapiens, being able to build rockets to the moon, ponder quantum physics, write symphonies, solve 4th order equations, and build high tech devices...so we must be invincible, right?

Wrong. Even the smartest among us can mindlessly join the "herd".

In similar manner, the Media pundits, many of them Neocons (Neoconservatism has its own terrible groupthink and cognitive dissonance trappings. E.G....you have to really go through some mental somersaults to justify killing innocent Iraqis and Afghans, etc) fall into the same trap.

The Neocon Media (right and left versions)...all sound the same, don't they? These are the beginnings of a fascist regime where truth is routinely ignored or distorted.

People who are under the spell of groupthink disorder, are in some ways, "asleep." The extreme example of a society being "asleep" would be Nazi Germany...but in many cases, there are similarities today.

I came out of my Global Warming slumber about 3 years ago (it is bogus!) ...and awoke from my Neocon slumber about 7 months ago, and have never felt better or had a stronger sense of purpose until now.

I digress a bit...but I hope this info helps or contributes to your brainstorm! And good luck on that paper.

Much thanks -

Yes, I'm still working on that paper and am doing a little literature searching right now. I would highly recommend anybody interested in media manipulation to search "groupthink" and the "Yale Communication and Attitude Change Program." You can do this in google scholar or at your local library in the "psych-info" search engine (if your library is a subscriber). Groupthink and persuasive messaging techniques, as outlined originally by Yale researchers, I feel, are the academic/scientific bases for modern propagandists/news "producers".

I've decided to write my paper (which is open-ended, sort of like an analytical piece/literature review) on the use of persuasive messaging by the main stream media to create groupthink within political discourse. Most of us here at the daily paul are acutely aware of the left-right-paradigm manifestation of political groupthink and the subsequent conflict and treading of water. From the perspective of those in positions of power and control, it's the divide and conquer approach which has proven so effective for so many years.

Book suggestion: Explaining foreign policy: U.S. decision-making and the Persian Gulf War / Steve A. Yetiv

Why is it important and incredibly useful to understand the psychological mechanisms of political power-broking? Embedded in the answer to that question is the reason I chose to pursue psychology. My first passion is peace and liberty - the passion so many of us DP'ers share. I believe, with my whole heart, that being able to explain and educate others about the tools of manipulation that we've all been exposed to, is a critical part of the "infowar". Coming at this with a scientific approach is a critical step in gaining credibility for this movement.

So, sharkhearted, also very sorry for my digression - but thanks for yours, I really appreciated your response.

Best,
AKT

The only good thing about our past voting record...

...is we can share it with other neocons in the fact that we know where they are coming from & why they think the way they do. They will listen to us more than they will anyone else! The fact that we have drastically changed our thinking really gets them interested. We know who they listen to, who they watch and what kind of things they read. A most excellent tool in converting! Awesome job...cannot wait to hear a response!

I'm also interested in their reply. What is also nice is that you are a fairly recent recovered neocon. I was too until 2007, then I recovered. It doesn't matter when people wake up as long as they do wake up.....more and more everyday.
