Red Alert! The 'Cyber Intelligence Sharing & Protection Act' CISPA (HR 3523) Already Has Over 100 Co-sponsors

Link to the EFF's Action Page

This bill already has over 100 Congressional co-sponsors, and is bolting through Congress! This is very upsetting! I just called my PA Congressman (Rep. Thomas Marino) and asked if he was a co-sponsor. They said, yes. I said, "Well you tell him I said not to support this bill, and if he does the next time his name comes around, HE IS OUT!"

THIS BILL WILL GIVE THEM CONTROL OF THE INTERNET!!!!! I am told it is worse than SOPA, the last bill they tried to control the internet with. Everyone yelled and SOPA was taken off the floor.

Current Thinking of Congress Over the Act

In an Email to our dear friend Thrice Eye, Congressman Chuck Fleischmann explained Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act or CISPA. This email explains how the people in Government are thinking about this act and have creating support for it while using lucrative and lucid terms to hide the real meaning from the public eye.

Pass this crap? Oh, the irony....

Audit the Fed has at least 218 co-sponsors and hasn't had any movement?
I fear that the bankers are in total control of congress and we get the shaft? All, I fear is lost if Ron doesn't get in to stop the madness.

For someone so against this attempt to destroy our freedoms, Ron Paul's absence from the voting is confusing. Where were you, Ron?

I have a question on CISPA...

Hi everyone. I have a question which I hope someone can answer. I read an article on line that indicated Dr Paul was supporting CISPA. Can someone out there give me some insights on it?

Dr. Paul asked me and a few thousand of my closest friends

to make sure we contact the crooks (my word) in Congress that represent us and tell them to prevent this from passing. So I just sent a little note to my rep and two senators politely reminding them of their Constitutional obligations and the far less important but altogether more politically relevant fact that their jobs could depend on this vote. I hope you all do the same.

PS: Meeting Dr. Paul... amazing.

Yes on both.

I notify my Congress critters, both the Right Statist and Left Statists at: (register first, it's easy!)

It's easy to join, costs nothing (except time, unless you choose to donate) and the system is easy to use as well.

This is crucial

The internet is where people can learn without TPTB filtering the message the way they do in the MSM (e.g. CNN, "Faux News", etc). My gut feeling is that TPTB are very surprised at the spread of Ron Paul's ideas and are now hell-bent on preventing this type of thing down the road (which underscores the urgency for us to prevent them from doing so!)

Unfortunately for them, some real info has actually been released to the public (e.g. Ron Paul, Peter Schiff, Lew Rockwell, Tom Woods). They tried co-opting the message by throwing Rick Perry out there as the "anti-Fed guy" and Newt as the "Tea Party guy" but we didn't fall for it. Now they know they need to try to put the "genie back in the bottle" by seriously clamping down on internet freedom.

We got SOPA/PIPA shot down but they're going to try to turn it into "whack-a-mole" until they can filter whatever they think is necessary.

Think of what's going on

-The spy center in Utah
-Enemy expatriation act
-The National Defense Resources Preparedness act
-The DHS' purchase of all those munitions
-The black boxes in cars (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505164_162-57418063-10391734/new...)
-That act that essentially says "if you owe taxes we can take away your passport" .

We know an economic crisis is coming. TPTB want to control the population for when it really hits the fan. The internet is our way of spreading truth. If we truly live in a free country, TPTB shouldn't have any objection to free speech. The fact that they're trying to pass CISPA/SOPA/PIPA/etc is not a good sign.

I wonder if all the

I wonder if all the organizers of the SOPA Internet blackout on January 18th are aware of CISPA & if they are taking similar measures to protest this new Bill as well.

Politicians will do whatever they can to control our lives, offline and now ONLINE. We need to make sure that they do not succeed.

The fact that she would she not comment about her stance on the 3rd one- the WORST of them looks like SNEAKY business I'd say. It looks like the congress has planned to let the first 2 fail, and then to is TRYING TO PULL A FAST ONE. So you can tune in and see who sells you out. Already there are over 100 cosponsors.
My senators are claiming they "don't have anything on this yet".

Coming to Vote Soon says Ron

I was at the luncheon with RP in Ithaca yesterday and he brought this up. He told us we better get on it because he thinks the vote is Wednesday or Thursday next week.

I used EFF's action tool. Easy enough.

Ithaca, [NY] Bug Prison: A Rough/Tough/Busy spot!!

Ithaca, home of an infamous prison. Institutionalizing American. An icon. What a fitting place to hear of the incarceration of the Internet next week.

Ithaca Prison.

Ithaca's Bug Prison: A Rough/Tough/Busy spot!! Ithaca Prison Travel Guide (Unofficial tumble-bug guide).

Along side the incarceration of America, comes job opportunities in selected communities... such as the City of Ithaca.
Ithaca City Job Vacancies: The following are positions that are currently open with the City of Ithaca. You should apply for these positions through the City of Ithaca Human Resources Department, 108 East Green Street, Ithaca NY 14850:

  • Day Camp Director
  • Housing Inspector
  • Medical Director
  • Natural Area Ranger
  • School Crossing Guards 2011-2012
  • Summer Employment at Cass Park

Governor, Convert my school to a prison. - Ithaca School Superintendent. Ithaca Superintendent asks NY Governor Snyder to 'convert my school to a prison.'

NY State should spend the same $30,000 to $40,000 a year it does on prisoners rather than the $7,000 it does a year on students. - Ithaca School Superintendent, 2011.

It's not a fair comparison... Pupils are served around 7.5 hours a day, 180 days a year. However, prisoners are served 24/7/365 [forever]. "If we were to provide schooling, if you would call it that, 24 hours a day to kids, obviously the cost would increase. It would probably be similar or more than what we spend on prisoners."

The superintendent says he's been accused of making this a publicity stunt. He says it has nothing to do with publicity, but rather having a serious dialogue about funding and public education.

People become abusive of

People become abusive of their freedom does it happens. Too bad to think.

Reminded Me of Audit the Fed

How many co-sponsors did It have? Why is this different other than it's like hat in hand for Congress Critters to want to clamp down on those who might kick them the funk out? Their motto ought to be: "Killing liberty since 1913", or was it 1933 or 1947? Curious but let's fight hard and true!

This HAS to be stopped

We need a huge outcry against this like we had with SOPA. I just posted a blog calling for such a thing if anyone is interested.

Form Letter

I’m writing today to urge you to oppose dangerously vague legislation like H.R. 3523 and any similar cybersecurity bill that would give unfettered immunity to companies to monitor and share sensitive user data with the government and one another.

Congress has enacted privacy legislation to protect the sanctity of our electronic communications, but bills like H.R. 3523 and similar "cybersecurity" proposals eviscerate these well-constructed privacy protections.

The sweeping language around "cybersecurity purposes" is so overbroad and vague that it:

• Would allow companies to monitor and collect any kind of data, no matter how sensitive it was, even private emails and text messages.
• Would give companies a free pass to share data with anyone at all, including other companies and the federal government.
• Gives companies total immunity from being held liable for their actions, no matter how many peoples’ privacy is violated.
• Hands the keys to this data to intelligence agencies, which lack transparency and public accountability.

Please don’t trample on our civil liberties in a rush to pass "cybersecurity" legislation. Oppose H.R. 3523 and any other dangerously vague and overbroad "cybersecurity" bill that would give immunity to companies to share almost any information with the government and one another and threaten civilian control of cybersecurity.

And uses your own money to do it!

You pay government creeps to spy on you.

I called Congressman Altmire's office today to find out his opinion on the matter and was told by the receptionist that she hadn't spoken to him today about the issue. I then asked if his opinion on allowing the government to spy on the American people changed from day to day. She then told me that she hadn't spoken to him specifically about this issue. I'm more inclined to believe the first answer she gave. I let her know that if he doesn't openly oppose this bill the people are ready to organize to be sure that he and anyone who votes for this bill will not be reelected.

KlobuchAr, Franken, Peterson,

KlobuchAr, Franken, Peterson, And Bauchman of Minnesota all cosponsor this bill. I have written to them.

I am writing as your constituent in the 7th Congressional district of Minnesota. I oppose H.R.3523 - Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011. Do not support this bill. I am not asking rather I am warning you that if you do support this bill you personally will be responsible for stripping the rights of the American people and you will be held accountable for your actions.

I have seen your name on other bills that aim to harm our Constitutional rights and I am ready to organize to oppose your reelection if you do not remove your name from the list of cosponsor's of this bill. 98% of the people oppose this bill. Must I remind you who you represent?

I am a law abiding citizen and I have the right to privacy. You took an oath to protect our constitution and we the people will hold you to your word.

Write him! Klobuchar and the rest don't budge. They don't represent the people.

I plan on it

the last time I emailed Franken was about SOPA. In his answer he said he believed in the bill, but with the public out cry we was no longer going to vote for it. I knew it was just a matter of time this was coming back.

It is time we hit em again, I have no hope of ever changing Collin Peterson's mind though. He is all for this type of crap. He single handedly tried to get every farm animal down to the chicken chipped. Peterson spent $250M federal money trying to get this going with out any law. Even Paul said Peterson needs to go.

He is my Congressman and I plan on doing some door to door campaigning against him. Lee Byberg is running in the CD7 district if you live here think about supporting Lee Byberg.

Gold & Silver Alert! Intelligent Sharing & Protection Amok.

Gold & Silver Alert! Intelligent Sharing & Protection. Seems the paper printing racket chasing Gold & Silver prices has run amok!

Amok? Or you you believe the markets are simply running amuck?

Note, once again, after several abrupt price drops, we witness yet another price jump, only to be slammed. See today, April 20, 2012!

To help you decide: Amuck VS Amok.
Eugene Volokh asks: "Amuck or Amok" -- which is the preferred spelling? [Both are correct; meanings vary - Twain.]

He quite sensibly and correctly writes: "Amuck or amok?, asks a reader, responding to an earlier post. The answer, as is often the case with such linguistic issues, is that both are acceptable, as dictionaries make clear. A Google search suggests that "amok" is more common, though "amuck" is common enough; a NEXIS search is unhelpful, because it quite reasonably treats the two as synonyms, so that a search for either finds both. The word comes from Malay, which helps explain the alternate spellings -- when words are transliterated from a language that isn't spelled using the Latin alphabet, there will naturally be many possible transliterations, and several of them may end up being fully standard in English (cf. Chanukah / Hanukkah, tsar / czar, the umpteen spellings of Kaddafi, etc.)."

But, even though I'm no Molly Wyman (a resident expert on etymology), I'm going to say that "amok" should be used sometimes and "amuck" others. "Amok" originally comes from the Malay amoq: "engaging furiously in battle, attacking with desperate resolution, rushing in a state of frenzy to the commission of indiscriminate murder... Applied to any animal in a state of vicious rage."

Through the years, it seems, "amok" became confused with muck: "Excrement, manure; dirt, waste matter" (probably from early Scandinavian meaning dung). So running amok (engaging furiously in battle) also became to mean running amuck (running through excrement). What makes more sense: "The Davis campaign to retain his office is running amok [engaging furiously in battle]" or "The Davis campaign to retain his office is running amok [running through excrement {figuratively, of course}]"?
