The video I made received just over 4000 hits in a couple of weeks and has received nothing but extremely positive acclaim from all who have viewed and has been responsible for converting numerous Romney, Santorum, and cross-aisle Democrats. Please post to any Santorum sites you guys hit up and I'll see you all in Tampa! For Liberty...Welcome to the Revolution! SSG. (Ret.) Rhys Williams

Guys, Wake-up!

Guys, Wake-up!

We do not want to travel nearly 6000 miles from northern Idaho, only to return home when the RNC begins, and I hopefully speak for the hundreds of thousands that will be investing in this campaign.
We must do our utmost to Wake-up America.
This is no vacation! Men do not prepare for war, while at the same time, plan to walk away before victory.
We should march around the Convention Center 7 times each day as we cry out to God. Such fervency would truly frighten the establish party and the lame MSM.
Try black this out!
This is a War for Freedom!

We have more veterans of the

We have more veterans of the Iraq and War in Afghanistan committing suicide than have been killed in both wars.To continue to send these men and women back time and time again is madness. Military men are just dumb stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy." Henry Kissinger. "America buys war like children gobble candy." Henry Kissinger. In 2007, Zbigniew Brzezinski told the U.S. Senate that the "war on terror" was a mythical historical narrative," in other words, a complete fiction. These two men have been involved with our foreign policy making decisions since the early 70's. Why would they make these statements? I believe since the cold war was over and the Soviet union had collapsed the Pentagon needed a new enemy to justify the money spent on and the build up of the military industrial complex. One that can never be completely defeated.

Headline Help

Correct: Sniper, Paratrooper, Disabled Vet SSG. (or Sgt.?) Williams Endorses Ron Paul

because

Tour Sniper/Paratrooper Disabled Veteran, SSG Williams Endorses Ron Paul

means

A tour sniper who's a paratrooper disabled a veteran and SSG Williams endorses Ron Paul

LOL. :p

PS. Sergeant is abbreviated Sgt., but I don't know if "staff" before sergeant is dropped or kept in sergeant's abbreviation. If there are two or more kinds of sergeants, meaning that there is a staff sergeant and at least another sergeant kind, then differentiation would have to be made in sergeant's abbreviation.

Sergeant

(1) Sergeant Sgt E5 (2) Staff Sergeant SSG E6 (3) Sergeant First Class SFC E7 (4) Master Sergeant MSgt E8 (5) First Sergeant FSgt (6) Sergeant Major SM (7) Command Sergeant Major CSM (8) Command Sergeant Major of the Army CSMA, I think that's all 8 of them for the U.S.Army.

Sergeant Abbreviations

Thanks for the abbreviations, Delta.

From the ones you provided, I recognize the first one, Sgt. I know it from seeing it in newspapers, magazines articles and studying editing.

From my memory dating back a few years, the sergeant kind is written while sergeant is abbreviated in articles, such as "...staff Sgt. John Doe said..." or "John Doe, staff Sgt. of xyz, said...." I'm not sure, though, because the articles I read about the military are few.

Why I think the kind of sergeant is written instead of included in the abbreviation is readability, particularly when the publication appeals to society rather than to group in society.

Avoiding alphabet soup, the unexplained and unconnected abbreviations and acronyms, does two things: invites readers and appears clean. I've found nothing turns off a reader faster than looking at a composition containing jargon, abbreviations and acronyms. This readership deflection is why I think kind (read: a specific) would be spelled and category (read: a generality) abbreviated, generalities being something understood or able to be understood from surrounding text.

If you have thoughts on this matter, Delta, please reply. Learning's good. Again, thanks for the info.

Go back and read, please.

The headline says "3 Tour", as in three deployments. A forum headline can be shortened because they subject matter is implied by the keywords, context is in the post.

Thank you for you concern over the proper abbreviation of my rank. As to your complete ignorance on the differences between Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, First Sergeant, etc., I don't see where you come off making a vain attempt to correct me on MY RANK. This is what, the third or fourth comment you've posted as a response to my video? Every time it is some lame attempt to accomplish what I have no idea. What your malfunction? Do you honestly find your ignorant comments constructive or are you some kid who lives at home and spends your time trolling websites? Enough is enough, kid. This is a place for positive influence, not sanctimonious bullshit.

Headlines and Abbreviations

I wasn't correcting your rank. I don't know it and I couldn't care less about it. Correct abbreviation is what I was after.

As for "3," the number of deployments in a headline is unnecessary because it's detailed information, which should be left to text. If detailed info is in a headline, often the headline is overwhelming. It's verbose. A headline should summarize, or encapsulate, a story.

If there are multiple categories of a title, as there are for sergeants, either one of two routes of abbreviation is taken:

1) specified abbreviation
2) generalized abbreviation

Applying abbreviation is stylistic, meaning the members of a publication decide which style they find clear and succinct so their readership understands what its reading with no impetus to research meanings of abbreviations, a task the writer and his editor should fulfill.

Having thought about the number of sergeants there are in the army, that there are many, its sensical to use the broad abbreviation not only in headlines but in text on first use unless further description about the person's title can be written briefly then. If it can't be written briefly, it's appropriate to describe the kind of sergeant later. Title description should be only enough to draw distinction between it and similar titles when its distinction is relevant to the story.

Another reason why I omitted 3 is because "A tour sniper..." is just that, a tour sniper. I gave no information about duration or how many deployments were made in my version of your title, so I'm not sure why my omittance of number of deployments upset you. A tour sniper describes the sniper, that he or she is a -- what kind of sniper, theancientalien? -- tour sniper, the sniper who is sent, or deployed, to a foreign location, I think, as opposed to a sniper who the government has installed at home to stand on rooftops above crowds. That's my understanding of tour sniper.

My comment was education; it was intended to educate you. Unfortunately you didn't understand my corrections. If you reread what I wrote, I think now you would understand them.

Because fair is fair, it's only correct that I reply to you in kind:

Go study punctuation and style, theancientalien. Then write back to me. Meanwhile, I'll check this post every now and then to see if you corrected the errors in your headline. Because, really, you don't mean a sniper who's a paratrooper disabled a veteran, do you, theancientalien?
