Ron Paul Included on 2012 TIME Magazine: The 100 Most Influential People in the World

Text by Ralph Nader

Paul, 76, draws a distinction between libertarian conservatives and those corporatist conservatives entrenching a corporate state in which Big Business merges with Big Government. That's why he is against bailouts. His defense of privacy and civil liberties and his opposition to the war on drugs endear him to people beyond his libertarian base. They even include some progressives who cannot abide his views against health, safety and economic regulations or his denunciation of the Federal Reserve's fiat money and social-welfare programs like Medicare.

Mitt Romney is apparently more influential.

I like alliteration

I don't know that this is such a good endorsement for Ron Paul being placed in a list with a pitiful pandering pettifogger politician like that poor fellow from Florida. Whats his name Rubio Marco or something like that.

The 100 Most Influential

The 100 Most Influential People in the World
They are the people who inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world. Meet the breakouts, pioneers, moguls, leaders and icons who make up this year's TIME 100

if you read mitt romney's there is nothing but bill bain of bain and co. and bain capital (the business he owns with mitt) talking about one thing that "mitt said" he did which must have been awhile ago since they talked about mitt "first starting". and that's it. so what i visited people in the nursing home and sang to them when i was 5... shouldn't i be on this list? or President? at least obummer was influential (in a very very bad way, but influential none the less)

Did you read the lame review they did of Ron?

It is total BS. And...........come on.........that picture was probably one of one hundred that they had to choose from. Time magazine sucks donkey d s. I will not waste my money on the rag.

~Your perception becomes your reality~

that list and poll is total

that list and poll is total bull$***
ron paul came 12th on the list with most of the votes, beating every other politician on the list, and when compared to romeny, who had significantly less votes and a lot of votes against him, he still made the list and was shown befroe ron paul.
whats the point of doing a poll if your going to ignore it anyway. this feels a lot like the election right now, where the corporate elite are the one choosing the winners and losers

fuck Times magazine
im no longer going to listen to their bullshit

My letter to the editor

Just sent this to the editor of Times:

"I’m disappointed by the obvious attempts to steer public opinion with, less that subtle, innuendos. I’d love to hear an explanation for why, in Ron Paul’s article, that I expected to be a positive one, the first sentence includes, “even though he has no chance...”. I quickly browsed through some of the other articles written for others on your 100 Most Influential People list, and I didn’t come across any of the other articles that started with your attempt to convince the reader that the person in question was destined to fail. I’m disappointed and I’ll remember."

He finished 12th...

Above is the link to the final vote tallies. He absolutely crushed every other US politician. Obama got about 1/3 as many "yes" votes and got 8,000 more "no" votes than ron paul.

I'm not sure if the rankings will be based on the "yes" count or the relative percentage of yes vs no. Either way, The doc did well....very well. Now, lets see if they cover him in print more than just the few paragraphs Nader wrote.

I'm glad he made such a list,

I'm glad he made such a list, but the credibility of it is truly in question when you have Pippa Middleton, Rihanna, and the likes of Tim Tebow.

Seriously? They're influential?

Don't even reply if you're going to praise Tebow. He's more famous than his counter-parts for one reason and it's not his "skill" in football, it's his religion; hardly worth being on the top 100 most influential people.

Agree... except for Tebow...he at least is a positive in

football where most players are not. But Ron Paul should have been #1!

What seriously worries me is

What seriously worries me is that Romney also made it on that list. I mean it says top 100 in the world so what did he do? CEO of the olympics uh ah thats what the article says. I would not call running for president an achievement. He promised a lot but he didn't do anything. Where is his influence?
Who on earth voted Romney in there? I guess his Facebook friends; you know you can get 2000 for 100 bucks? Just google buy facebook fans. I would like to take a look on all the IPs who voted on the poll :)

Did anyone notice the misprint in the print edition?

Under Benjamin Netanyahu (who appears right after Dr. Paul) is the one-liner "Israel's Loyal Servant". I think they meant to print that under Barack Obama's name. ;)

Other fun-facts:
- Romney's entry appears before Paul's. It has the one-liner "The Success Story."
- Paul's entry, otherwise decently written by Nader, starts out by stating that Paul has no chance of winning.

I didn't want to click on

I didn't want to click on Mitt Romney's entry. The only people Romney is popular with is the establishment Republican party and the establishment mainstream media.

I checked it a little while

I checked it a little while before they closed it and Mitt Romney and Benjamin Natenyahu were below the 'half-way' mark(50%+ no votes), now they made the list? Obama was at 40%+ no votes. By comparison, Paul was under 15% no votes last I saw. Of course, even if this does make it to the 'print' version, the average reader will be unable to tell this, and see them 'equally'.

At least Ben Bernanke didn't make the list, oh god....

Dr. Paul has been voted into

Dr. Paul has been voted into the top 10 or 20 on that list for the past 4 years or so. The highest voted politician each time. However, I'm pretty sure this is the first time Time Mag even bothered to include him. Usually they don't. And this is the online version of the article.... let's see if they include Dr. Paul in the print magazine that gets mailed out to a few million subscribers.

When I voted Ron Paul was

When I voted Ron Paul was second or third in voting I believe. The reddit guy was leading by quite a bit. Actually, I think he was third overall in voting behind reddit guy and some prince.

Did you notice that the list

Did you notice that the list was not numbered? I wonded why that is. Did Ron get the most votes? It isn't in alphabetical order, and it can't be ordered by vote count (being the Jeremy Lin is at the top of the page.....hmmmmm.

Guaranteed he got #1

Guaranteed he got #1

Seeing some of the idiots

Seeing some of the idiots that are on this list. I can confidentially say that Dr. is not proud of making the list.

5th Repost today.

A quick review verified my opinion, TIME is a Waste of Time.

How many on the list are influential because they are government thugs or control government thugs?

Free includes debt-free!

They mentioned Rubio on GMA or the Today show this

morning. They said he might be Romney's VP?????

And you are surprised because...?

If the rumors are true, Rubio has already been annointed by the Bilderbergs for that slot. We shall see.

too bad a bunch of others will make it all over the press

and not Dr. Paul. No mention this morning when there rep for TIME was on.

They sure do damage control in this piece. Telling liberals they'll never "abide" his views on fiat money and the Fed. They love the Fed issue. It's easier to convert a liberal than in neo con IMO.

Does anyone know if this was

Does anyone know if this was just an online thing or this will be in print? So sad people like Rhianna are on there :/

Nader said some nice things,

Nader said some nice things, but his positions are hilarious. He is pro-fiat and Fed, but anti-bailout and anti-war. lmao. Does he know that the FED contributes significantly to the funding of those?

Nader Is Anti-Fed

Don't know why he included that among the regulations that progressives tend to favor. It may have been the fault of an editor at the magazine.

Are you sure? That is a

Are you sure? That is a pretty big error to make in such a short essay. I do remember Paul and Nader coming together to support "auditing" the FED in 2008, but he may still be pro-fed and fiat with more transparency. I'm sure he has commented on Monetizing debt at some point. I'll look tomorrow.

He Seeks Transparency And Congressional Control

But doesn't go so far as to advocate ending it:

But boy was he on target regarding Obama. Check out this back-and-forth with some poor soul who fell hook line and sinker for the hope-and-change gambit:
