Forbes.com 4/20 Stirring the Pot:, Could Legalizing Marijuana Save The Economy?

On April 2, One L. Goh allegedly went on a shooting spree inside Oikos University in Oakland, California, killing seven students. That same day, federal agents were otherwise occupied, raiding a business less than a half a mile away. That business, Oaksterdam University, is a medical marijuana training school in a location where it is considered legal for state and local purposes.

I believe that about 70-80% of the "War on Drugs" budget goes to Marijuana related offences alone. Lot's of law enforcement getting a lot of funding.

It all started with one man:

"I now have absolute proof that smoking even one
marijuana cigarette is equal in brain damage to being
on Bikini Island during a hydrogen bomb blast"
—Ronald Reagan

This quote was based on a marijuana/monkey study that was done in the 70′s where they decided to show that marijuana was harmful by forcing 30 blunts worth of high grade Columbian marijuana down these monkey’s lungs every day causing them to atrophy in approximately 90 days. Some experienced even greater marijuana injection up to 63 blunts in 5 minutes.

And here we are today.

"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience"—Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Reagan was just another

idiot politician and Hollywood whore.

it sure would help

if we legalized marijuana and hemp the economy would probably improve, hemp has far more uses than cotton, can be used for fuel, hemp takes in more carbon dioxide than trees, etc. Plus, the cost to enoforce marijuana laws is ridiculous. When marijuana is legalized the price would drop and put drug dealers out of business. prohibition is a failure and a waste of money

Happy 4/20 Hemp for Victory!

When Jack Herer ran for President

He autographed his book for me and wrote as follows: 9/19/92

when they take everything they have put you in a corner with nowhere else to go but one...

To be honest

Marijuana is addictive so your first statement is false. But compared to nicotine or heroin it is "practically" non addictive and withdrawal is mild. Probably because it isn't a physical addiction. Also smoking anything is not "good" for your lungs. As far as the rest of your statements go some may or may not be accurate.

But it is a fact that you cannot overdose on marijuana and there have been no documented cases of death directly attributed to smoking weed. That alone makes prohibition stupid.

I don't have to trump up the "benefits" of smoking marijuana to just enjoy the effect of it or support legalization. One thing about legalization is that then I could grow enough to just eat it which provides the same effect without any possible damage from smoking.

I don't support the wholesale legalization of all drugs though, including nicotine, because no one should be able to profit by addicting kids. And since no one here believes in any regulation, as ignorant as that is, then I don't support legalization of any addictive processed drug.

i bet you use those addictive

i bet you use those addictive processed ones all the time. and as for addictive it is less addictive than your cup of coffee or can of soda. and its simple freedom in all things for all.. or freedom for none.

when they take everything they have put you in a corner with nowhere else to go but one...

Wow! You are just a

f-ing idiot aren't you. You need to grow up and be honest or no one will listen to your ignorance.

Everything I said is True dumbass.

Thanks

for pointing out that marajuana is in fact addictive. Smoking anything is definitely not "good" for you and that should be obvious. It would appear that someones enthusiasm has somewhat colored their judgement.

As for not being able to overdose on MJ, I have to disagree. While you most likely cannot have a lethal overdose on MJ you most certainly can OD. In my case I was munching on some cookies that a friend had baked up, this particular batch gave me the munchies long before it gave me a buzz, you can see where this is going. It turns out I woke up the next morning more or less completely paralyzed, the only body parts that seemed to work at all were my eyelids. Fortunately I was able to assess the situation before freaking out and went back to sleep. Later that afternoon I was up on my feet again but spent the rest of the day walking in jello. Not exactly a horrible experience, but one that could be quite terrifying for a relative noob as it relates to herb. : )

Legalize Hemp

This would surely prove to be an even bigger boon to the economy. There are so many uses for this amazing plant, whole new industries would be started overnight.

Sure it saves money but more importantly...

it would makes our streets safer and opens up prison vacancies for violent crimminals.

Still though..it is up for the states to decide how to regulate this and all other "illegal" substances.

combine that with

california and the war on drugs.
medical marijuana. this is a big topic for california.

How can we circle this in california?
