Delegates not showing up for conventions?

So let me get this straight:

We have "Get out the vote" GOTV programs for ordinary voters in caucuses and primaries.

But we had problems with our own DELEGATES showing up for CD conventions in Missouri?!? How can this be possible, it is incomprehensible! Don't have a basic program of "Get out to show up for convention" for delegates?

We had 10000 people showing up at UCLA with kids climbing in trees to see the President. We had over 6000 people at rally in a place like Berkeley. There were kids climbed up on roof of little structure next to the library to see him, because they couldn't get a good viewing spot in crowd. I know, I saw them with my own eyes that night. We had over 4000 people in atrocious weather in Philadelphia today.

Clearly, we have the most passionate and knowledgeable supporter base, Obamney cannot come anywhere close to it. The numbers are also there, don't let anyone tell you that. (Recent head-to-head Polling data confirms this.)

In light of this, I cannot possibly imagine failure of DELEGATES to show up for conventions. We're not talking of ordinary voters here. What's going on, is there something the campaign could be doing more about this?

Delegates need to stay in touch with other Ron Paul delegates. It is motivating for them to have others who make it a point to go to all the conventions. Sometimes it takes a trip across the whole state to get to some of the conventions and it is good to have RP traveling buddies.

Conventions aren't like

Conventions aren't like parties. Rallies are.

Forget showing up for what could be a long delegate selection process. 90% of those people in the trees won't even walk across campus to VOTE.

Some people just don't care enough.

I have a friend who loves Ron and I gave her all the info on the County convention and she even thanked me and said she would go. I call her today to see if she went and she said no because she had friends over. Pathetic! Bring your friends if that's what it takes! I'm tired of excuses and I do not have time for arm chair activists. If you want to make a difference you must identify solid, committed supporters. It's too late to win this any other way when it comes to delegates.

On a positive note,my mother(63yo) showed up to her convention and is now a solid delegate to State. Her strategy was to flatter the delegation with humor. When she was interviewed(yes, interviewed) by her precinct County Chair, she said,"I don't have a teleprompter, but I take good notes!",which got a very strong response and laughter.

Play their game long enough to change it.

That's the kind of stuff

That's the kind of stuff about person who didn't show up which pisses me off to no end. How could she "love" Ron, but blow it off? Such people are motivated enough to become delegate, but not showing up? Clearly they don't have a clue of how much is at stake and so-called "love Ron" is just superficial. Had I been in that situation, the date and time would've been on my mind for a month.

So let me try to understand

So let me try to understand this about Missouri. I'm all confused:

I heard we had close to sweep in St. Louis City caucus and Jackson County (Kansas City). There was some other smaller Missouri county in which won - Greene or something like that?!? Everyone knows about the big sweep we had in St. Charles.

So the understanding was Kansas City, St. Louis and St. Charles county are big bulk of population of Missouri. By controlling these big caucuses, we were supposed to win Missouri.

What did winning/sweeping those caucuses have to do with yesterday's Congressional District conventions? Is that like apples vs. oranges when it comes to delegates? This is way too confusing. Pls clarify if we may still have good chance in state convention due to those earlier wins.

Its still up in the air

About half of Missouri delegates are decided at congressional district level, the rest at the state convention.

The St. Louis city caucus was won, but not St. Louis county. St. Louis will contribute 1 national delegate though.

The Kansas City district was won and is sending all their 3 for Paul.

Unfortunately the St. Charles county mass was diluted, split into two congressional districts. We lost both of them.

It's still possible for Paul to take the majority of Missouri delegates if we win at the state level. Depends on who Santorum people want to go with.

Ouch, this gives me shivers!

Ouch, this gives me shivers! I had considered Missouri all locked up due to those earlier "supposedly big due to population density" victories.

Looks like a *LOT* of work (by whom? grassroots? campaign?) still needed to be done to sway those non-Romney or Santorum delegates.

I hadn't heard that there were problems with people showing up

In district 3 there were plenty of alternates for the delegates that didn't make it. We had 13 delegates not show from St. Charles I think, but they were all filled. I'm pretty sure all spots were filled from all other counties as well. I was an alternate ready to move up if necessary, but our slate was full. We just didn't have numbers to beat both the Santorum and Romney together even with the full 88 from St. Charles.

That wasn't the issue

That wasn't the issue yesterday-we all worked hard, and made sure the delegates showed up-Romney and Santorum teamed up together in our district and still barely beat us-I think our biggest issue is still ignorance-some folks just cannot use their own minds to do what they know they should, and will be good little party folks and vote for who they're told to vote for. I knew a couple from my county who were uncommitted and had been Santorum supporters, so I asked who they were voting for-they told me Romney-I said "you really think he can win against Obama?" they said "No, I don't think anyone can win against him." Its that ignorant mindset that caused us to lose out in our district. Even so, it was very close, so the numbers have really grown a lot for us since 4 years ago. If we would've had just a few more, we would have won, so close, that I overheard a Romney supporter breathing a sigh of relief as he gave the reports over the phone and told them how close it was-that they barely beat us. It was terribly disappointing, we all worked so hard, but at least we know we did our best.

Discussion 1 on 1 is not always helpfull. some people argue for

the sake of it.

We can only win when we sway a good chunk of the Santorum supporters.

And this is on a large scale only possible with the comparison sheets.

easy to read. After that read people are prepared to hear about Paul.

It cant be that they move from Santorum to Romney...

Thx much, thank you so much

Thx much, thank you so much for working hard and making sure delegates show up. Obviously as you know, too much is at stake and there hasn't been an election in 100 years when such a good chance to push back establishment.

We should push back the scum in state convention.

yes every delegate

counts especially when it's Paul vs Romney,Santorum, Gingrich.

In at least two district caucuses, if only 1 more shows up we take all in Minn, and if 3 more show up we take a district in MO.

shocks me, too..
