Ron Paul Wins 5 Delegates in Pennsylvania; Romney Officially Has Zero

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA - Ron Paul has won 5 delegates and at least 10, possibly 12, alternate delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa on August 27. These "district" candidates were directly elected in yesterday's primary per the tabulated official election returns with 99% reporting.

The delegates are Tom Boggia (CD-1), Tom Martin (CD-5), Thomas Brown (CD-5), Anthony Antonello (CD-17), and Brian Dougherty (CD-18). The definite alternate delegates are Seth Shoemaker (CD-4), Chad Nagle (CD-4), Dave Talley (CD-4), Mark Brady (CD-5), Nancy Price (CD-10), Holly Anderson (CD-11), James Sheets (CD-14), Andy Maul (CD-14), Chris Donatelli (CD-15), and Ben Bradley (CD-16). Greg Sheeler (CD-17) may have won an alternate delegate spot since two of the winners already won delegate spots. Tony Destro (CD-14) was listed by the Paul campaign as a write-in candidate and likely won the third uncontested alternate delegate spot for CD-4. The state board of elections has not yet announced the delegate results, the results are below and the work I did to calculate each congressional district is in this rough Excel file for any wishing to download and doublecheck my work.

Ron Paul finished a distant second to Mitt Romney in last night's primary election in Pennsylvania. Ron Paul had 13% of the popular vote while Romney took 58%. Even Rick Santorum had more popular votes than Paul. However, in Pennsylvania the presidential popular vote is just a beauty contest - it means NOTHING in terms of which candidate the delegates will support at the Republican National Convention.

Pennsylvania sends 72 unbound delegates to the Tampa convention along with their alternates. Three (3) of these are the head state party officials, and ten (10) "at-large" delegates will be decided at the state convention, tentatively set for June 10. The remaining 59 delegates WERE determined yesterday by popular vote, 3 or 4 delegates from each of the 18 congressional districts. Voters are permitted to vote for a maximum of three or four delegates on their ballots, but no delegate is allowed to have the candidate he/she supports appear on the ballot beside them. The end result is that without campaign organization, the delegate and alternate delegate selection become a crapshoot. The Paul campaign published its delegate list here.

Since Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney do not appear to have published delegate lists, ALL of the remaining 54 delegates are unconfirmed and unpledged for ANY candidate. It is even a possibility that some of the delegates already favor Ron Paul. Realistically though, many of the winners are establishment GOP players and officials so it is likely that a majority of the 54 will favor Romney, the anointed establishment candidate.

However, another monkey wrench for Romney is that since Rick Santorum, the former US Senator from Pennsylvania, dropped out just before the primary, many of the delegates may have been running to support Santorum and oppose Romney in Tampa. Will they still oppose Romney and vote for Paul since Gingrich will also likely give up? The only way to find out the preferences of all these delegates would be to ask and/or sway them, which is likely exactly what the Paul and Romney campaigns are now engaging in. Maybe the mainstream media will try as well, but best not to hold your breath.

Jake, do we know if Greg

Jake, do we know if Greg Sheeler officially got the ALT spot?

I Lost my delegate bid

... by just 225 votes, out of 20,000 votes cast. In PA District 10, the 3 establishment republican hacks, that won - only did so by 6% (over all 3 Ron Paul delegates). Not a mandate; time to flood their emails about real foreign policy and the importance of competing currency. I encourage all PA Ron Paul supporters to find the emails / contact info to their newly elected representative delegates .... and give them an education.

BTW, I was top vote getter in my County ... even though everyone knew I am a Ron Paul supporter. The fight goes on!

We elected at least one delegate

in CD3. I spent 6 hours at the polling site, when I wasn't at work, passing out palm cards asking for votes. Glad I did.

Did you instead mean CD5?

59 ?

we got 5 out of 59 total spots.
how many Paul delegates were on the campaign list ?
say there were 60 on the Paul delegate list and we got 5, then i suppose most others would be GOP hacks going for Romney.

Dr.Ron Paul's 2002 Predictions

I also wonder.

It wasn't clear.

I wonder if sometimes we don't make the news more complicated for ourselves because we're trying to put a positive spin on it.

I'm a Pennsylvanian. I recognize a few names on the list. But I really can't tell if this is good news or not.

Who is Jake Towne?

We've missed seeing your signs along Rte. 100 and hope to see them up again before long. You have good reason to take a sabbatical, though. Congratulations!

Thanks for the report.

Who is Jake Towne? Recent candidate for Fighting 15th dirstirct.

I surmise those signs told you as much. Just thought I'd chime in & answer your question. I admire Jake Towne & his wisdom related to Ron Paul's ideals. He is quite a spokesman & scholar on the confines of the US Constitution, liberty, individual freedom, & sound money. He wrote many a fine essay on his bid to represent the Fighting 15th, Pennsylvania in Congress... Congressman Louis T. McFaddin's ol' stomping grounds. I was particularly impressed with his essay, "Our Toy Money" highlighting the worth of our US Nickel. But I drift off the subject at hand. Now, where was I?

Hey! I put those signs up (still have some in the garage)

Nice to know a Daily Pauler saw them :)

We worked so hard here in Pennsylvania's CD-9 and just barely lost to establishment RINOs. But now we have out sights on dominating local offices. ;-) I encourage all constitutional Ron Paul supporters to run for local office and the start your way up from there.

Wrote my name in

I have gone to a few events other than meetups... established GOP and some of the alternate patriot events in our area and decided to write my name in for rep. committee woman. I figure it is a good starting place and this election has a few of us now in contact so that we can move forward in our quest for more conservative candidates.

And for other's to support them as they see fit.

Excelllent Post - Thx - Something

Something positive to take away from Tuesday. Did Paul win delegates from any of the other states from this past Tuesday voting?

Oaebor, yes, Ron did

Oaebor, yes, Ron did eventually win more delegates on Tuesday! He got 4 delegates from Rhode Island, thanks to his 25% showing there. I also read that in a couple of Congressional Districts in New York, we may get at least a couple of delegates because of the military and absentee ballots being counted.

Don't say their names!

We gotta be Ninja-ish about this thing. :)

I understand your concern, but those that were elected with ron paul next to their name are already public knowledge.

Delegates did not have any indication of presidential preference

next to their name on the ballot. However, it was basically public knowledge of who they were, given it was posted on the RP website. The ones who were elected will be going directly to the convention in Tampa, so there's no need to be hush hush about it.

Ron Paul supporters should dedicate working

towards getting the straw vote process to be transparent. At this time, voting machines can be manipulated, and since most states don't have public websites that post results by precinct, the public has no way to cross check the final vote counts for the straw votes=UNVERIFIABLE We should not allow the states to "Bound" or "Pledge" delegates according to Unverifiable Voting Results. At the national delegate conference in Tampa, a delegate could theoretically just stand up an make a simple motion to Unbound All Bound Delegates... And if the majority of the delegate body is Ron Paul supporters, this could easily pass and we need not worry about bounding or pledging issues on say the first ballot etc... There are many ways delegates can handle the bounding or pledging issue... Also, remember a "bound" or "pledged" delegate is comparable to a politician making a pledge or a promise to do something once elected. In the end, you can't force a delegate to vote any certain way. This is called Voter's Rights. This whole "bound" or "pledges" bullsh*t is just peer pressure by the establishment. That's why it's so important for us to elect delegates to go to Tampa who will not give in to someone trying to tell them how to vote.

This is a bigger battle that cannot be fought at this time. Unless the campaign has real clear evidence of fraud they cant do anything about it, and even then what happens? Look at Iowa, the guy just gets fired...

Right now the campaign is fighting this battle where they can, in the delegates. Because it is far harder to have fraud in the delegates without it being extremely obvious (hence all the video footage of them trying to manipulate the process).

I agree that the election process needs to be fixed and more transparent... but that battle cannot be won with leadership in its current state. We want to fix something, we have to get out there and force change. We cannot expect the Campaign to do it for us, because they dont have the time or resources to fight this on their own. RP has made public statements talking about the fraud, but I dont really know what more they CAN do about it.

Yes I agree mostly I meant to say

that right now our focus is winning the delegate battle... I know one at a time... But throughout we should be getting our ducks in a row to take court action later after this election is over would be the more likely timeline... Just encouraging others to stay on it after the election even if Dr. Paul wins because I don't think we as a country should have to bear all of this grief again.

Please don't post individual names of Ron Paul delegates!

We still have many battles to fight against the status quo . . . all the way up to Tampa and esp at Tampa.

We need to be discreet and move swiftly under the surface, so to speak.

These names are already

These names are already available in documents outside of this site. This thread was basically a cut and paste of a document that has already hit the internet.

Ron Paul is a JEDI.

The Delegates keep rollin in......Keep Fighting.

Ron Paul 2012.

So WV could end up much like Penn? That it won't matter as it would be a beauty contest? I imagine RP would get a lion share in WV.

Illinois vote

I was a little upset that I did not receive any posters or signs, here in southern Illinois. But, I have to admit, I don't know if then state was a winner take all delegates. This state can be red or blue, depending what mood the Democrats are in, that day! I am, still, encouraged with the way things are going. If We can keep Mitt below the 1400 delegates he needs, it could work! Fact is, Gingrich and Santorum will continue to receive votes, since their names will be on most of the ballots.

Go President Ron Paul,MD

This post is confusing. I don't believe it was smart post

We are all allowed to post whatever is acceptable to Michael's criteria..but there is no need to confuse something that is already difficult to determine..

Come on guys. Keep this in

Come on guys. Keep this in perspective. The delegate winners in my congressional district were all party hacks and I have no doubt where their votes will go. PA is a difficult state to run for delegate because you are directly elected and there are always 10 or more names for 4 spots. Many well known names are on the lists like State Senators. I salute those who were successful and we all tried our best.

Another total

Over on another thread they are quoting a professor:

He lists 16 or 17 delegates as “uncommitted/unconfirmed,” and divvies up the other 19 or 20 delegates among the campaigns as follows: Romney 7 (35%), Paul 5 (25%), Gingrich 4 (20%) and Santorum 3 or 4 (20%)

This is titled horribly.

This is titled horribly. Since they are all unbound Ron Paul also officially has zero. But if you want to go into which delegates have publically supported candidates Mitt Romney would not have zero. Quite a few of the delegates that won were already elected politicians who have endorsed Romney.

I am not trying to rain on this thread but deceiving ourselves will get us nowhere.
