I have a challenge for you (Dr. Paul would approve!)Submitted by glory on Sat, 04/28/2012 - 11:11
As many of you have read PollMan's post about music being played for the elderly at the nursing home, I'd have to say that watching that short video really moved me. And it inspired me. And it really made me think about how many people could use a little joy.
I wanted to create an open thread, a challenge of sorts, to motivate more people to do something good for someone. Now, I realize that most of you do this on a daily basis without thinking twice about it, but could you pull off another good deed? I know I sure can!
Dr. Paul has spent his career doing so many good things for people and I believe that it is something we can all do as well. Would you be willing to pledge a little time to help someone in need?
I have decided to restore old phonographs and donate them to local nursing homes. I was able to finish 2 yesterday and will try to get one more done today so that I'll be able to deliver them this week. I'm calling it "Operation Restore Joy". I can't think of a better feeling than doing a good deed and I've really been having fun with it. Keep in mind that I'm a 30 year old woman, who's short on cash and time (Very short on cash and time!). I'm hoping this will blossom and I will be able to continue it!
Is there something that you can do? Would you like to make a pledge?
Some ideas I have are:
If you have a neighbor that's struggling, could you give their kid that old bike that's sitting in your garage collecting dust?
Could you visit the elderly in the nursing home? If you are a musician, could you perform for them?
Could you give $5 to a homeless person?
If you saw someone that was short on cash at the grocery store, would you buy them a bag of groceries?
Do you have an elderly neighbor that needs their lawn mowed?
Now, I realize that everyone is very busy and it's hard to make enough time for ourselves let alone anyone else. But I thought it would be a fun challenge to see just how much good we can do in these trying times! I mean, what's wrong with a happy post every once in a while?! Can you bring a little joy to someone today?
So, who's with me?
I understand if you cannot help at this time, but if you can, I'd love to hear your story! Paul supporters are damn good folks, no matter how the media portrays us!
Bring on the JOY!!!
