URGENT! Massachusetts District 8 Provisionals

Just got this email and thought it good to let everyone know about the contents from Doug Bennett:

Friends of Liberty,

Yesterday we nearly toppled the establishment at the Braintree Town Hall at the District 8 Republican Caucus. However, the final vote counts are still not in yet. As of yesterday, we were only 3 votes shy of winning the caucus and the MassGOP still has to count 9 Provisional Votes.

We believe that all 9 Provisional Ballots are for the Ronald Reagan Liberty Slate.

However, the MassGOP are up to their old sneaky games and they are refusing to tell us the names and addresses of these voters who cast these Provisional Votes so we can provide proof that these voters registered in time before February 15th.

One voter who cast a Provisional Vote, she is from West Bridgewater, registered Republican on February 14th and tomorrow will be getting an affidavit from her Town Clerk to prove she did so so that her vote will count towards are total in the Delegate Caucus vote.

If there is anyone who receives this message attended the caucus in Braintree and they voted with a Provisional Vote, we need you to contact us ASAP so we can get your name and address to provide proof so we can triumph. Even if you know of someone that was thee at the caucus and they voted with a provisional ballot, please forwad that information to me so we can contact them.

The MassGOP has scheduled the Provisional Ballots to be opened Wednesday, but only if we are able to provide proof that these 9 Liberty Supporters who voted with a Provisional Ballot registered by February 15th.

Fellow Friends of Liberty, help us keep the MassGOP from stealing another election from the people.
In Liberty,

Doug Bennett

PLEASE keep this bumped on top for another day or so, that we can hopefully get the names of those provisionals.

UPDATE:
As of today 5/01/2012 we need just one more provisional to make it a possible win!

Thank You Everyone!

Letter from MA GOP

Just a quick follow up,

As I mentioned before I voted in the GOP caucus for District 8. Paul supporters were within 3 votes of getting a delegate spot and I was one of 9 provisional voters.

I went to Government Center to verify when I registered to vote. The registrar confirmed they received my registration on 2/1/12 which is well before the 2/15/12 deadline needed to be a registered Republican. In short I should not have received a provisional ballot. There may also be up to 8 other individuals who encountered the same issue.

I came home to find a letter from the MA Republican Party... This is a direct excerpt:

"Thank you for your interest in the 2012 Massachusetts Republican Party (MRP) Republican National Convention delegate caucus process. Further, your letter expressing concerns with regard to the caucus process was well received and taken under serious advisement. However, in accordance with state law, MRP bylaws, the delegate selection plan, and national rules, the MRP will not be taking any further action concerning your protest"

Notice that there was no mention of any specifics regarding my case or even a hint of acknowledging that the provisional ballot was issued incorrectly, especially in regards to a certified document (notarized by the registrar) provided by the Boston Election department that proves I registered well within the 2/15 deadline.

I've contacted Doug Bennett regarding this but have not heard back yet. Last time we spoke he mentioned that there were as many as 4 people (including myself) that received provisional ballots when they should not have. This would mean that at least one delegate seat should have gone to the Liberty Slate, and a second seat was within a vote or two away from going to the Liberty Slate.

Just a quick FYI to anyone who was following this thread, though it seems that activity has gone dead now. I plan on contacting the MA GOP office to find out exactly why they are not pursuing this (although, I think we all know the real reason why).

What message is the Republican Party sending to independent voters?

Use Facebook/Twitter to find the "lost" provisional voters

Get on facebook and change your status to "Contact me if you received a provisional ballot during the GOP caucus at District 8" - this is especially important if you personally reside in that district and took part in the caucus... who knows maybe that extra ballot happens to be your neighbor or relative...

Just got verified in Government Center - I think we are now tied

Met up with Doug Bennet and went down to Government Center to verify that I was a registered Republican as of 2/1/12 and that I should never have received a provisional ballot. Doug has all the official paperwork from the election department and we will file a protest to get my ballot to count.

A few things:
1) It honestly was total luck that I stumbled on this thread. I had to leave the caucus before the votes were counted due to a prior commitment. I just happened to type in "republican caucus district 8 ma" into google and this was the first post on the top of the search list. It is important we keep bumping this thread up because that is the only way I would have found out.

2) Anyone who was there at District 8 remembers that we were all crowded in the foyer of the building to check in with election officials and get our ballots. There were 4 separate lines and there were so many people that the lines were snaking all over the place and criss-crossing into each other. Right before I was next in line to check in the officials announced they would have two lines for Abington-Brockton (I was registered in Boston). The strange thing was that they were checking paper records in large binders. When I moved into the newly created line the officials pulled out a second binder. At the time I thought it was strange because there was no shared database or even a single shared binder. It makes a lot of sense that there could have been discrepancies between the binders. Even if a single page was ripped out by accident there could be 20-30 people who were disenfranchised because of inconsistent paperwork.

3) When we spoke to the election official at Government Center he mentioned that they had tried sending out the most updated registration information to the GOP officials, but for some reason this was not accepted or the officials didn't take interest to it. In a way that makes sense because they would correctly assume people who recently switched are more likely to lean Libertarian than hardline GOP.

4) We should have made a statement out loud before caucus proceedings to try and contact anyone who had a provisional ballott. I was thinking myself of just yelling out loud to see who else got one, because at the time I thought it was really strange. Unfortunately that did not happen and now we are all hoping that last person will somehow find this thread or get contacted. If you went to District 8, or if you know someone who did please reach out to them and ask if they got a provisional ballot. Thanks to facebook, twitter, etc. it actually is very plausible to find the last remaning people out there that were disenfranchised, but this means you have to broadcast that this happened.

By the way, you did not by chance happen to find this post!

I got a provisional ballot at the District 8 caucus

Hey,

I must have been one of the 9 who received a provisional ballott and I am definitely a supporter of Dr. Paul... I have a feeling that the GOP election officials purposely left out anyone who switched parties within the last year... or they simply made assumptions who were likely Paul supporters (I have a foreign name, so they correctly assumed I was not a Romney fan).

I definitely registered in time. I even set up a voter registration drive to get my co-workers to register as either Republican or Independent. I was also able to vote in the Republican primary without any problem (my name was on the voter list in my local election office).

I sent an email just now letting you know my address, etc. Please get in touch with me and let me know what I can do to make sure the GOP does not steal my vote!

Got it

I was there, and they said the Provisional Ballots would be counted if the person (I forget the exact title) determined that they would make a difference in the final count of the delegate votes. Between the 6 people that ran to be a delegate, the votes were between 118-136. The Top 3 had 136, 127, 126, so OBVIOUSLY these votes could in fact have a determination on the final delegate count, so they should and better be counted (as long as they were registered on time of course).

And while there was some yelling and shouting, many were due to the fact that we repeatedly asked for a specific rule to be read. There was a case that one of the ballots was considered "ineligible" because it had 4 names (not allowed more than 3). But, the 4th name on that one ballot was "Ron Paul" written in place of a crossed out "Mitt Romney" (printed at the top of the ballot), so many of us were looking for clarification of the rule; whether or not the rules stated that there could not be "more than 3 names on the ballot, or 3 DELEGATES names on the ballot." The chairwoman would not provide this information, so that's why there was shouting, and it was NOT JUST RON PAUL SUPPORTERS!

And lastly, she was in NO DANGER. I walked outside and she had no police escort with her, she walked out safely on her own and seemed happy to do it. There was a police car there, but it was a single car and was there before the caucus even began.

I have the ENTIRE thing on video tape, so I will be contacting you, and Doug Bennet hopefully gets the information he needs. I will try to post on youtube or tomorrow.
