Shenanigans in Wyoming convention?
Submitted by Shakinginmyshoes on Tue, 01/08/2008 - 16:50Hello,
I've never posted to the forum before, but I've been a Paul supporter since I first started learning about him last summer.
I live in Wyoming. I went to the convention in Natrona County. Something seemed fishy to me then. Ron Paul did better than several other candidates in the informal straw poll, so I was perplexed when results came back 8 for Romney, 2 for Thompson and 1 for Duncan Hunter.
Now my local paper just ran a story that the delegates don't jibe to the informal straw polls. In fact, Dr. Paul WON in Campbell County, yet he got no delegates at all?!!
Here's the link to the story in the Casper Star-Tribune

I feel the campaign head guys need to know about this. Could someone please educate me how to get this information to them?
Thanks!!!

the importance of becoming a delegate.
I'm not sure about Wyoming caucus rules, but I'm sure that they may be similar to Nevada's caucus rules.
Nevada will be having its first caucus, normally we have had a primary election in the past. The Nevada caucus consists of each county having a number of precincts per county. Each precinct can have one delegate per 30 voters. An example 300 voters equals 10 delegates. The delegates are the votes that count towards the presidential nominee. The straw vote is a nonbinding popularity vote. So in other words, the popularity vote was for Ron Paul he would've won the straw vote. However, if the delegates are in favor of a different candidate, then that candidate is nominated.
This is why it is so important in caucus states to get 30, 40 or more of your friends, Ron Paul supporters of course, to become delegates.
Honestly, it doesn't matter.
Honestly, it doesn't matter. Move on. Is there nothing better to discuss? How about NH?
The WYO process
is designed to favor party insiders. My county had 24% of the vote for Paul. The winnowing fashion of the vote system, coupled with the establishment favoritism, rewarded most (maybe all) of the county chairs with a national delegate-ship. That is how Hunter got a delegate, he was one of the few candidates who bothered to show up to the Precinct Committee-persons forums in the end of September.
It certainly is a rigged system, but the party is allowed to make it's own rules. Remember, this is Dick Cheney country out here.
I would not be suprised to see this system gain popularity nationally.

REPLY TO WYOMING VOTING
I live in Iowa and our runs the same way. We all got in a room and you vote on a blue slip of paper. Then those that represent each candidate go into a room and count them. So, there is someone at each precinct who spoke on behalf of their candidate. A Ron Paul supporter was their for the count in our precinct. It is a little uncontrolled. From those results we then elect delegates who cast their vote at the GOP state convention in March, but those delegates are not required to vote for the person who won our precinct vote. We had 200 people vote, the huckster got 54 and paul got 26. Three Paul supporters tried to make it in as delegates (we got 6 delegates to our convention) but the croud of evangelicals made sure the Huckster's got their delegates into the convention. We as 200 tried to vote for the delegate that won the poll so all 6 delegates would vote for the Huckster, despite our Paulite few that tried to turn the tide at the end. It is all pretty informal to say the least, we are all in one room, really like a town hall meeting. Sounds, like Wyoming is very similar. This was new to me as I just moved to Iowa, which is a whole other story on its own. Anyways, it seems shady, but there is no real control that the candidate who won the popular vote would actually get the delegate votes. So, if you are in a state like this, the Paul supporters need to make sure they get elected as a Delegate. Our precinct made us say who we voted for when we voted on Delegates, I was going to lie and say Huckster, so I could get in to the Delegate Convention and then vote Paul, but I went with my 90 year old neighbor and couldn't lie in front of him. Hope this sheds light on Iowa at the least and maybe Wyoming.
Here is the name of the Wyoming/Colorado
Ron Paul campaign coordinator from the campaign website.
Carl Bruning
Colorado & Wyoming Coordinator
Why don't you call the campaign office at 703-248-9115 and ask for contact info for this man? Then call him with your concerns.
from what i've read about
from what i've read about the Wyoming caucuses, the entire process is by its nature shenanigans. So i'm not surprised.
Would someone with access to the campaign office
please pass this on to them?
This does sound like shenanigans
and should be reported to the main campaign office.
One thing I have found out, is that the powers that be in the state Republican parties, are definitely fighting against a Ron Paul victory.
If they don't wake up and smell the coffee and back the candidate with the energy and message that can win, the chances of a Republican win in 2008 is TOAST!
