Please post your account of Thursday night's Michigan County Conventions here!

The Michigan County Conventions were held Thursday 05/03 at 7:00 PM. If you attended, or were informed by someone who attended, please post your account of the event on this thread.

If possible, please answer the following questions in your account...

1. What was the total number of delegates and alternates chosen? How many were Paul supporters?

2. Was the overall turnout heavy? Light? In between?

3. Which candidate's supporters seemed to be most numerous?

4. Was there an organized Paul presence?

5. Among precinct delegates (having the right to vote at the county convention), about what percentage seemed to be Paul supporters?

6. Among the "drop-ins" (not precinct delegates), about what percentage seemed to be Paul supporters?

7. Among those who seemed to be Paul supporters, did they stay until the end, or did many leave partway through?

8. Did the convention seem to be hostile, friendly, or neutral toward Dr. Paul?

Thank you for your dedication to the cause of Liberty!

Is it still possible to be added on as an alternate...

... to the State Convention, if you are from a county that did not fill its allotment of delegates and alternates? Does anyone know? Thank you!

ALERT!

Just got a call from someone doing a poll of delegates for the MIGOP. The three questions:

1. Who will you be supporting for choices for National Delegate? Mitt Romney or Ron Paul?

2. Who will you be supporting for National Committeeman? Saul Anuzis, Dave Agema, blah, blah, blah?

3. Who will you be supporting for National Committewoman? Holly Hughes or Terry Lynn Land?

I refused to answer #1, and said undecided on #2 and #3. DON'T TIP YOUR HAND! Better yet, hang up on the call. They are only calling delegates and alternates and will be tying your answers to your name so they know who to watch out for.

I got the same thing in an email survey

Didn't answer it.

They also ask if you're a Tea Party or "Establishment" Republican

Yes! they used that word.

Also, do you like how there's only an A or B choice for each? Anuzis & Agema are both lame. Agema was for the popular vote UNTIL he found out it was unconstitutional. Constitution much?

Yes, thank you!

Maybe we should find out who is running this poll, however. If it is Paul people, then it would be good for our Michigan leadership to know where we stand going into the State Convention.

Oceana County

We were allocated 6 delegates and 6 alternates to the State convention. our county has slots for 68 precinct delegates, 18 are filled, and only 10 (including me) showed up to the county convention. There were about a dozen guests, some faces familiar, some brand new (pretty sure all Ron Paul). When it came time to pick delegates, the chair asked us who wanted to go. Five, including me, indicated our desire to go, and one asked to be an alternate. The chair then opened it up to the floor. Two stalwart old guards and two new faces expressed an interest in going. The old guard were quickly nominated, so I nominated the new faces. One of the old guard won the runoff for the last delegate seat, and everyone else made it as alternates. As there were still two alternate seats to fill, we took suggestions for people not in attendance, and one of the new guys mentioned his friend who would be going to Detroit anyway. I quickly nominated him, and he made the slate.

All in all, I am pretty sure 2 of the 6 delegates and at least 3 of the alternates are for Ron Paul. However, 3 of the delegates said they were only coming on Saturday, so we could have as many as 5 out of 6 for District Caucus on Friday night. As 2nd District is 230 miles away from Detroit, I expect a low turnout on Friday night for the regular delegates. This is an opportunity to get at least one Ron Paul supporter selected for National Delegate from 2nd District.

LISTEN CLOSELY!!! Yes, national delegates are bound, and according to MIGOP rules will have to sign a candidate commitment form. HOWEVER, the rules also state that if a candidate with bound delegates drops out of the race, his delegates are bound as uncommitted. That means that the congressional districts that Santorum won will send delegates to Tampa that on the first ballot are bound to vote uncommitted. We need to work hard to form coalitions with all anti-Romney groups to get our people elected as delegates in these districts and keep them out of the Romney camp.

Grand Traverse County

I am not sure if this info is posted below and I don't feel like reading through it all so please forgive this if it is already known.

Former Senator Jason Allen was appointed County Chair.

We had at least 20 of the 25 delegates to state filled by pro Paul supporters.

First I have heard of it!

Thank you!

Also...

due to the lack of people only one of the 25 alternate seats was filled and I am unaware whom that individual supported.

Congratulations, Michigan Liberty patriots!

Because of your dedication to our cause, you made a difference at your county conventions yesterday. Now, on to Detroit for the State Convention on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19. Michigan for Liberty in 2012!

Gennessee County

66 delegates sent to the state convention with 66 alternates. Most of the Ron Paul supporters ended up as alternates including me. The slate was predetermined by those who were already precinct delegates from 2010, even though some weren't even in attendance. Most of us weren't allowed to vote because we had just registered for precinct delegate and therefore were considered guests. There was absolutely no talk of the candidates and the purpose of the event seemed to be lost as it was treated as a standard Republican event, promoting state and local Republican races. I will be attending the State convention in hopes of no shows, which we were told usually happens.

"The slate was predetermined

"The slate was predetermined by those who were already precinct delegates from 2010, even though some weren't even in attendance."

Did your caucus leader simply say those not attending were automatically delegates? Or did the delegates present vote them in? Delegates in attendance who declare they want to go to State, have preference. However, any who do not show are merely on even footing with guests. They need to be voted "in" by the attending delegates, same as a guest would have to be. If you were told otherwise, you were lied to.

Run, Ron, Run!

Yah we were told that

Yah we were told that precinct delegates have preference present or not.

Thank you, Michigan State Convention alternate!

I maintain a thread devoted to convention alternates, where you can read about other alternates who made a difference because they went to their conventions:

Congratulations, and on to the Motor City!

Was anyone there that can

Was anyone there that can answer the questions in this thread?

Any results from Wayne County?

Thank you!

Are they bound... or not so bound?

Remember RNC rule 38... no delegate is forced to vote in unity with state rules...

I don't know the actual wording... but it should be found and widely published to all delegates...

Livingston Country Convention

1. Forty-three of the delegate elected in 2010. Nine delegates elected to fill the 55 quota. Several of the elected delegates support Dr. Paul's campaign. Of the 9, myself and three others were elected. I don't know about the alternates.

2. Good turnout.

3. No one talked candidates during Convention. The Screwy apportionment scheme in Michigan binds the delegates to Romney and Santoraum based the popular vote.

4. I think so, I only saw one RP T-shirt, and he got more votes than I. I ran as a supporter of the Constitution and in particular the first, second and fourth amendment.

5. Among precinct delegates (having the right to vote at the county convention), about what percentage seemed to be Paul supporters? Several.

7. After the election of the Delegates, the Convention was adjourned.

8. As the delegates are bound by State rules, the conversations seemed to focus on D. Paul's platforms, which, of course, were fairly well received.

They are a pretty good group. Pro-life, right to bear arms, etc.

No bad news to report. People are concerned but many badly informed.

Livingston County has been Republican land since the mid-1800s. It has been a bellweather county for State GOP events. I think things went very well.

Midland

Looked good in Midland County. Pretty sure we got all the open delegates.. Maybe not one of them, but I do think we got all the alternates. I will be a delegate at Cobo Hall. See you there!

On to Detroit...

Thank you!

So far it sounds like Ron

So far it sounds like Ron Paul dominated the whole U.P. No establishment wants to drive all the way to detroit. Luckily the g.o.p. provided buses for us.

See You In Detroit!

Where do you hear the U.P. was dominated by RP? Just curious, because there's hardly any action up my way.

There were only about 18 total people at our convention, with 8delegate/8alternate slots allotted. I was surprised that 5 sitting precinct delegates in my county wanted to go to state (I don't believe any of them to be pro-RP). I think that the bus makes it easy and entertaining for them to go. (I'm not taking the bus).

I MADE PRIMARY STATE DELEGATE, as well as who I believe to have been 2 other RP supporters-- the RP factor was super-stealth at our convention so I don't really know for sure. The current committee and other attendees made comments about how "we all from the U.P. will be voting for Romney at the state convention because it's the only ethical thing to do". (Oh really?!?) There is only one alternate from our county going (candidate preference undetermined). Our convention was very mellow-- they were recruiting precinct delegates because there are MANY empty slots; they were very pleased that I had already filed to be a precinct delegate and that the other 2 guys (who I think were RP guys) also wanted affadavit forms to file.

See y'all at Cobo Hall!

I know the alternate. He's

I know the alternate. He's one of us. Talked to him after our respective conventions last night. He was guessing about you all, as well. ;-)

Run, Ron, Run!

You know 'the alternate'?

LOL... That's awesome that he's with us! I hope he gets to slide in somewhere at the state convention!

Please don't reveal to much

Please don't reveal to much information people. We need alternates to fill vacancies and we don't need to encourage seated delegates to feel like they have to go to state. It is almost better them thinking the race is over.

The Livingston County Delegates and Alternates

will be published on the County's GOP website without affiliation to any campaign.

I don't believe we have to go stealth. We do have to share our concerns. Then then point out how only one man supports the 1st, 2nd and 4th Amendment while being pro-life in theory and in his careers as an Obstetrician and Congressman.

Freedom is popular, I saw lots of evidence of that last night.

Here in Michigan, our early primary cuts our delegate count to Tampa in half. "Why is the State Party Leadership sacrificing the voice of the Districts of the state for nothing?"

In spite of the media's blackout and whitewash, enough voters turned out at the February presidential primaries to overflow the Big House.

We don't need to wake most up, but to give them hope in the promise of the Constitution.
