The prospect of "stealth delegates" derailing Mitt Romney's nomination at the Convention (Green Papers Commentary)
Submitted by Raymond on Wed, 05/02/2012 - 16:40The theory under which such "stealth delegates" seem to be operating is that- while Party rules require National Convention delegates, at least on the First Ballot, to vote for the presidential contender to which they are bound and/or pledged based on the results of the votes cast by "rank-and-file" voters in their jurisdiction's Presidential Primary (thus, they cannot vote for any other presidential contender)- their abstentions would still be acceptable because these abstainers would not, in fact, be voting for any presidential contender other than (in the case of Massachusetts, already cited above) Governor Romney...
But, if only as the proverbial "hypothetical" here, might such a "stealth delegate" scenario- one denying a seemingly presumptive presidential nominee his/her prize via a plethora of abstentions on the First Ballot by delegates otherwise bound/pledged to support him/her on the First Ballot- be at all allowed to play itself out on the floor of a Major Party's National Convention in any event?
Answer: a resounding No!

We are not Old Guard GOP - This a non-issue.
I doubt we will be given the opportunity to embarrass Romney and the GOP firmly and squarely as Romney will most likely stumble before then. Romney may be a nice guy at heart but he has too many skeletons in the closet.
Now it's about the Constitution and the fight to defend it.
Crazy--Mr. Richard E. Berg-Andersson's BIO was just taken down!
Totally deleted 5 minutes ago. He must be reading this as I type. He is nothing but a music teacher.

He took down the bio right after you posted it. He will have to get another account now that he has been found out.
LOL!
I wonder what his new handle will be?
How DARE someone with actual
How DARE someone with actual knowledge on the rules come and spoil out delusions!
I wanted to continue blindly believing all the people with ZERO expertise on the matter who said it could be done even as Ron Paul said it couldn't...and SHOULDN'T be done.
Rules? Green papers is just another blog.
Check out the BIO of the guy that wrote "The Rules"--A real politico this guy is--NOT. LOL!

I read his bio the other day
I think LawrenceFlash is Dick Berg-Andersson.
NOT an issue!
This has been addressed and it is not an issue. Check out this thread:

Yes..check out this thread by
Yes..check out this thread by fellow board members who have ZERO expertise on the topic!
Besides, as the article says..this is just the LAST deafness in a lot of ways Romney can and will prevent it.
Admit it...most of you children were actually picturing watching on TV as delegate after delegate got up and abstained...not realizing that there was NOT going to be 2287 individual votes announced on TV.
So obviously you have no idea how it works, but you like to talk about it.
The idiot in the other thread was wrong anyway. That Rule 40b is talking about VICE PRESIDENT. It was saying that assuming there is no challenge for VP (because the presumptive nominee has chosen a VP and the party doesn't contest) then they will save time and quickly select him.
It doesn't say ANYTHING about not allowing a vote by affirmation for president if there is another candidate that qualified.
Damn...I guess that is why we don't look to minimum wage or unemployed children as legal experts!
ah, ridicule and smugness! do
ah, ridicule and smugness! do you feel good now Mr. 1 hour member?
hmmm.. does your point about the VP mean that a motion to nominate the president by acclamation is NOT in order?
Or music teachers
like Richard E. Berg-Andersson
The whole point of this
The whole point of this editorial is to discourage Ron Paulers to continue making efforts to become delegates in upcoming conventions and primaries.
There are plenty of parliamentary maneuvers to overcome the establishment's maneuvers at the convention! So, ha!
Yeah, I think it is more a
Yeah, I think it is more a call to be prepared for anything. In their example, he says they can just suspend the rules, but my understanding is that would require 2/3's of the degegates. Unless they just ram it thru with an uncounted voice vote, 2/3's should never happen.
Dr. Paul will be the nominee
And will be the president if everybody does what he/she can to make it happen, the change is near and can't be stopped.
I hope you are right, but I
I hope you are right, but I will be taking precautions in case you are not.
Good read and it will be interesting to find out what the real
rules are and how it plays out.
God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it. – Daniel Webster
I think the point of the article is
that whoever is the chairman of the convention can just call for a voice vote and regardless of the relative volume of voting by voice, that chairman, can in his on descretion just say "sounds like the ayes have it" and it is done.
Hopefully, the ensueing chaos would be so great if they did that, that the convention would vote in a new chairman.
the GOP WILL
... defraud Dr. Ron Paul of his rightful nomination. Then unless the campaign has taken advance precautionary steps through various third-party avenues this revolution will be squashed. I once again strongly urge Dr. Paul to take advance steps to become the nominee of multiple third-party organizations such as LP, CP, etc etc to ensure he can be on all 50 states' ballots as an independent or third-party nominee. Otherwise you can be almost 100% certain the RNC GOPers will defraud him of the nomination.
This is so obvious I really wonder how anyone can fail to see it coming???
Republic Broadcasting best talk radio in the truthosphere
If he does not get the Republican nod
then I think he would be fine with Gary Johnson becoming president. I do not expect him to run 3rd party, or to try to destroy the RP on the way out. He will be a true statesman, that just happened to be a couple of election cycles too early, buy his legacy will be the foundation for our eventual restoration of liberty.
Well...maybe you are right...
But whatcha gonna do in four years, at the end of Barak's Term...when we OWN the "party"?
Finally this election thing is over and we can get on with the collapse of our currency forthwith!
Again
much ado about nothing
“[The] RNC does not recognize a state’s binding of national delegates, but considers each delegate a free agent who can vote for whoever they choose.”
