"As already noted, the ballots are in our hands now, and the 15th is the final date to turn them in.

Oregon is a CLOSED primary; only registered (by April 24), active Republicans got ballots with Dr. Paul on them, and only their votes will be tallied in the GOP primary.

There are no unpledged delegates up for grabs here, aside from the usual 3 state officials: RNC man/woman and state chair. I know of no reason to look for any of them to go for Paul, although if they should happen to ask me for my views... :-) Our national committeeman in particular happens to be a personal friend of Romney, so lotsa luck there. However, relations have been cordial between the state party and us, at least so far.

4 years ago we got 15% for Paul vs. 85% for McCain. Hopefully we roundly trounce those numbers this time. AFAIK there is no advertising going on for anybody (other than the standard 24/7 mass media Romneython, of course); have seen zero Romney signs or bumper stickers, very few for Paul, none for anyone else."

That's ok... (Original post: Tue, 05/01/2012)

"I just wanted to underscore the fact that Oregon's primary is NOT just in two weeks on the 15th -- it is NOW. Just don't want folks thinking that we have a normal two weeks of campaign time leading up to a single day of state-wide voting here -- our primary has already begun."

Is there going to be on-site voting on May 15...

... or is this a pure "mail-in" Primary?

If there are open precincts on May 15, does anyone have a link to a statewide list of precincts?

Thank you!

It's all mail-in voting here.

It's all mail-in voting here. Which could be good or bad. Don't have to worry about getting college kids up early to vote for Paul and we've had weeks to push people to return ballots. So we should hopefully see a high turnout among Paul supporters.

But unfortunately it makes it a lot easier for people to just check Romney, and especially Santorum or Gingrich, without even needing to be motivated enough to leave the house.

Sign Bomb Monday

Another Burnside Bridge sign wave on Monday between 4-6pm.

Also, ballots due by Tuesday at 8pm. It's too late to mail so you'll have to find a drop box.

http://sos.state.or.us/dropbox/

Only 20% of ballots have been turned in so far.

My wife is going to count votes this Tuesday in Jackson County.

I would suggest a few more Republican Ron Paul supporters volunteer to help count votes around the state, just to make sure honesty and integrity are followed.
Thank you.

Sent my ballot! Feels good to finally vote for Dr. Paul!

And liberty candidates Delia Lopez and Cliff Hutchison!

Some Additional Oregon Information.

First a little math knowledge helps. Here is an example "only".

Oregon is allowed 25 voted in Republican delegates to the Tampa convention August 27th.
On May 15th the public votes for the Republican Presidential candidates are totaled. { Unfortunately Mr. Gingrich, and Mr. Santorum are still on the ballot and will take votes away from Dr. Paul }

So lets say Dr. Paul receives 40% of the public vote.

25 {delegates} is multiplied by 40 %
This would equal 10 national delegates to Florida bound for Dr. Paul.

Then an election to determine these delegates is held in the 5 Congressional districts of Oregon, at the same time. { My Organizer told me any Registered Republican can run as a national convention delegate, but I'm not sure if this is true.}

Those Republican people who want to be voted on to be a delegate must get a 2 minute video tape made and submitted before the June district meetings. These tapes will be shown to all the PCP's that go to the district meetings, and the voting will be tallied the same day.

Convention

So, I'm fairly young and new to Paulitics so I need some help... if I read the Oregon GOP site correctly the PCP's elect the delegates and there is no participation for other people who want to show up? And the PCP's are already picked out? I went to a meetup and found out I wasn't registered in time to be one anyways (180 days) and Im not sure when they're picked it sounded like you just had to sign up.
Also the delegates are bound through the second ballot at the national convention...is there a way around this like ive heard people are trying to do in other states (was it Idaho "scorched earth" guy)with the binding?

I'm no expert, but from what

I'm no expert, but from what I have found out yes the PCP's go to the convention and elect the delegates. PCP's are elected in the May 15th primary. I think the only requirement was that you had to be registered Republican by last Nov. 17th. Even those who didn't file to be on the ballot only need 3 write-in votes to qualify. Most of the slots are empty so if you do that you're almost sure to win.

I'm still confused about how the delegates are bound. Reading the Republican rules it says they are bound to the candidate they pledged to support for two rounds. That makes it sound like if there were enough Ron Paul PCP's they could just choose delegates that have pledged to vote for Paul on two ballots and they would be within the rules. But I also know that Oregon is supposed to be proportional to the primary, so I'm not sure.

Yea, the PCP's are actually

Yea, the PCP's are actually on the ballot I just didn't realize and forgot because they're mostly empty! I was wondering how i'm supposed to vote since its just a name, there is nothing about them...I know I need to go to a meetup and they probably have more info but I have school at night after work so if anyone has anymore information or wants to be nominated let me know.

Yeah, it's amazing how many

Yeah, it's amazing how many spots are empty. Especially when each precinct is allowed multiple men and women. I hadn't planned on being a PCP because I read that PCP's are asked to canvass for other GOP candidates. But when I saw how empty the ballot was I felt like I had to, the opportunity to dominate the conventions is just sitting there for us to take.

I'm not sure about how to identify Ron Paul PCP's. I'd guess that anyone actually on the ballot will win a spot so voting for them or not wouldn't make much difference. I'd try to contact your county coordinator for any write-ins to vote for.

What is begun in anger, ends in shame.

Yes, same here in Portland.

Yes, same here in Portland. I don't think there's been any advertising here at all that I know of. Also, haven't seen one bumper sticker or yard sign for Romney, only a few for Paul. Too bad he couldn't quickly make a stop up while he was in California to get on the news and let people know he's still in the race.

The work now is making sure every Paul supporter returns their ballot before 8pm on the 15th.

You can find the nearest ballot drop off site here:

...and making sure...

Paul would pack Pioneer Square

and that could let people know he's in the race.

For sure...

...he could also pack Tom McCall Waterfront Park! :) Or the Quad at Oregon State.

John P. Slevin's picture

yes

Waterfront good too, just that I always preferred Pioneer...and certainly Eugene would be a logical stop as well.

Waterfront Park on a sunny

Waterfront Park on a sunny day with downtown's skyline on one side and the river on the other in the background would be so cool. Unfortunately I don't think they're planning anything, can't believe I missed my chance to see him in Vancouver. Guess we just need to make sure he comes back for the general election.

That would be amazing, and

That would be amazing, and even one short stop would make local news. And his message would be well received here with the anti-war, occupy, medical marijuana, and states rights crowds.
