(Update iii: Here's the proof of abstaining) Doug Wead Joins Stossel In Predicting Something Big Next Week!

Here's a piece of what DW had to say.

Next Wednesday, May 9, 2012, will be an important day. I will be online that night at 9PM to talk with anyone who wants to join the discussion. Here is the link.

This combined with John Stossel TWICE this week saying Ron Paul was going to take off next week. Does this mean something big we don't know about yet or am I missing something? Reading too much into nothing? theories?

New REALITY CHECK, this could be it

UPDATE II: !!CHECK OUT THIS ADMISSION!! MSNBC CONFIRMS THE ABILITY TO ABSTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=flQ...

UPDATE III:
First, here is a 2008 article talking about the ability to abstain
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/sep/07/paul-backers-giv...

Second, here is the rule about nomination: Rule 40(d)
(d) When at the close of a roll call any
candidate for nomination for President of the United
States or Vice President of the United States has
received a majority of the votes entitled to be cast in the
convention, the chairman of the convention shall
declare that the candidate has been nominated. [emphasis mine]

Thirdly, here is RRO rules on abstaining
Do abstention votes count?

Answer:
The phrase “abstention votes” is an oxymoron, an abstention being a refusal to vote. To abstain means to refrain from voting, and, as a consequence, there can be no such thing as an “abstention vote.”

In the usual situation, where either a majority vote or a two-thirds vote is required, abstentions have absolutely no effect on the outcome of the vote since what is required is either a majority or two thirds of the votes cast. On the other hand, if the vote required is a majority or two thirds of the members present, or a majority or two thirds of the entire membership, an abstention will have the same effect as a “no” vote. Even in such a case, however, an abstention is not a vote and is not counted as a vote. [RONR (11th ed.), p. 400, ll. 7-12; p. 401, ll. 8-11; p. 403, ll. 13-24; see also p. 66 of RONRIB.
http://www.robertsrules.com/faq.html#6
This means that every abstain is one FULL vote removed from Romney he MUST have 1154 votes to get nomination. [edit to fix #required]

Fourth, here is the preamble of the The Rules of the Republican Party stating that the current rules are in effect until the convention
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the
following be and hereby are adopted as The Rules of
the Republican Party
, composed of the rules for the
election and government of the Republican National
Committee until the next national convention, the
rules under which delegates and alternate delegates
shall be allotted to the respective states in the next
national convention, and the rules under which such
delegates and alternate delegates shall be elected and
under which contests shall be considered, and the rules
of business of this national convention.
http://www.gop.com/images/legal/2008_RULES_Adopted.pdf

It gets a BIT more confusing when it comes down to the Rules committee and what they can do, but there will be months to finish that research(too tired right now to work it out) as those things can't happen until the delegates are all chosen. :) Please everyone keep this post on the top via comments all day so that people will have a chance to view this information, i've been up all night doing this and need sleep... 2 finals tomorrow :) good day all!

Seven weeks ago...

We were winning.

So sad.

We need to weed out the fifth column in the liberty movement ASAP!

"Truth is an absolute defense to the charge of paranoia."

See..

I agree with your sentiment.. but, what has changed in those seven weeks? anything at all? or was it just perception. Too many of us lost faith, in the world and in ourselves.. i wanted to inspire hope and the belief that this was REAL and ACHIEVEABLE with this whole post, instead it just sent people into a tailspin when they weren't told that "WE WIN" by doug wead, as if he could even come out and say that.. i suppose thats the problem with dreamers (myself included), soaring highs and equally powerful lows. HAHA i think we're just conditioned for disappointment and we don't know when to believe anymore. AND so while i wish the fifth column could be removed, i think what we need to do is strengthen our resolve, put on our RP-WARPAINT, look them in the face and dare them to stop us. Why we would ever listen to those who are ready to raise the white flag is beyond me.. but i believe its the lack of leadership from the grassroots, and i understand that's the "benefit" of the grassroots (decentralization), but clearly it has its drawbacks when there's so few that can inspire the people to action. If i am to confess, it is that fact that worries me most about the future, without a face to the movement, a representative, if you will, how will anyone know who to trust going forward? There are already divisions over Rand, and I am not sure there are any real other options for us in 16 if things end up poorly this year(I am not out of hope yet, i am certain the campaign is understating their delegate numbers[200 bound +300 bound to romney..] its just difficult to know by how much). I am concerned though by the decertification of delegates because im not sure there's enough will left among our people to make a public fight over these things, there should be protests in the streets in EVERY state which removes our people from delegate slots, but i just don't think we have it in us anymore, at least thats the way it seems. I really must end this on a positive note, lol im depressing myself. I still have hope because the media is still on message and the GOP is busy downplaying everything, they are still afraid even though they "should" be quite secure at this point. It will be a fun couple of months as the squirming increases. take care

2012luaPnoR...did you finish your research

regarding the voting rules at convention? I just re-read your post from last week and am still intrigued. If the RP delegates who are bound to MR could actually abstain (in accord with the rules), then we will have a better chance.

No, sir or madam i have not,

No, sir or madam i have not, and i apologize. To be honest, i got a fair amount of heated backlash over the 'flop' that was the DW announcement, and decided to continue to talk to people locally rather than participate here. I've been away, back occasionally to lurk and take the pulse, but i've been hiding in a way i suppose or resigned to let things play out here as others see fit, no matter what you do, or try to do, people poo poo it and talk trash. The sad thing is people expect that the Ron Paul campaign would play no politics and not disguise what their plan is and how the could achieve it. It seems self-evident at this time to, if you've looked into it, that there is no binding what-so-ever in the eyes of the RNC and election law. Florida, for instance, is in direct opposition to RULE 38 (no unit rule.. rule). Florida's rules state that the delegation chairman will vote for the entire delegation, which is against the rules, so at that point, their binding is released as it is against the rules. Abstaining looks to be pointless at this juncture(just vote PAUL), but id need to explore all 50 states to ascertain how deep the rabbit hole goes. As for the RULES COMMITTEE, i promise to you to actually do that research within a week or so and start a new post with my findings, thanks for taking an interest in what i was doing, and im sorry i abandoned you :) take care.

tomorrow night i will be

tomorrow night i will be doing the rest of the research concerning the rules committee and how we can battle anything they try to do, please try and keep this post visible so people can see the information, off to study for my finals, g'night all

Stossel on The View

He mentioned Ron Paul and they went over some libertarian ideas then they dismissed him to go on to something else.

Deekey

LOL i've seen that too, but

LOL i've seen that too, but thats the kind of thing they can sweep under the rug, or otherwise officially announce is not tied to Romney or any manner of justice department manipulation, this is the establishment we're talking about, id LOVE to see that go somewhere, but i think think that will go the way of the fraud claims of obamas documents, deny and delay...

DONT WORRY GUYS!!! the

DONT WORRY GUYS!!! the announcement is all but irrelevant, i know we all want good news and i hope it is too, but just fight for delegate slots no matter what and no matter who they are bound to, ABSTAINING is real and NOT against the rules, just fill those seats and we win, fight fight fight!

Don't bust my bubble

Am I sure? Well, I don't think Ron Paul Being the last one standing to be against Romney is BIG NEWS......do you? Don't think they would either......was said, Quote: bIG NEWS, TUNE IN TONIGHT FOR THE STORY---
RON PAUL IS THE LAST ONE STANDING IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

WHAT DO YOU THINK????

Deekey

SIGH

Considering Mitt being DQ'd would be one of the biggest political stories of our generation, they wouldn't TEASE that story...it would be BREAKING NEWS served as quickly as possible to avoid being beaten to it by other networks. That's clearly not what he meant.

Sorry

What you said makes sense for sure but.......
I pray you're wrong........I really do.

Deekey

Did they

say what time or on which show?

-Jacky
TX

time? show?

If he did, it was before I walked in the room...sorry.
It's hard to believe. Hell, I'm starting to not believe it!
Just have to wait until the 'announcement' I guess.
If that guy was just hyping his show by making that statement...am going to be very ticked at him!

Deekey

:)

ok

-Jacky
TX

YAHOOOOOOO

Fox news just said, "Tune in tonight for the story,
RON PAUL IS THE LAST MAN STANDING IN THE REPUBLICAN RACE"

wow wow wow
wHAT DW WAS GONG TO ANNOUNCE?

Deekey

Huh!?

Huh!?

REALLY???

Are you sure, or are you just BSing?

-Jacky
TX

really?

Hey Jim, word for word from the guy with the frog in his throat Don't know his name, not a Fox news watcher.

Would they/he be so dumb he would call the one left against Romney as being BIG news? That's pretty OLD news.

Deekey

I think they mean...

...RP is the last man standing to challenge the anointed one, Mittens. Romney's not going anywhere, if that's what you were thinking..

i agree that i don't think

i agree that i don't think this is it, but Romney does have a lot of things going on around him that could push his withdrawl, the stanford sentancing in june and related issues

2008 Delegate Vote Abstain for Arizona to Crown McCain?

Didn't a bunch of states pass or abstain in order to let Arizona crown McCain at the 2008 RNC? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmqUOCb5E4E

I remember watching that take place just hoping somehow Ron Paul delegates could somehow get things going only to find out they were just letting Arizona have all of the fun.

passing is different from

passing is different from abstaining, passing just means you want to be asked again before the end, and its a symbolic gesture to his home state, we didn't have the seat required to do anything by abstaining, if you check the first link under UPDATE III you will see an article talking about the nevada national delegates and their position on abstaining and why in the end they abdicated their seats.

Curiouser and curiouser

You'd think that, if there were a major announcement coming today, the media would have been alerted to a press conference and that--by this time of the day--we'd know about it. (If this fizzles, Wead owes each of us one beverage of our choosing.)

There's no way he was referring to yesterday's primaries. He was crystal clear in saying, "Next Wednesday, May 9, 2012, will be an important day."

I think its something to motivate us.

.. a inside info...

i agree, and i think my post

i agree, and i think my post has stumbled upon it, i doubt they would give out any of the 'secrets,' all of what i've put out there is published facts that there was a BUNCH of confusion on, and many people are losing hope even here on DP
