(Update iii: Here's the proof of abstaining) Doug Wead Joins Stossel In Predicting Something Big Next Week!

Here's a piece of what DW had to say.

Next Wednesday, May 9, 2012, will be an important day. I will be online that night at 9PM to talk with anyone who wants to join the discussion. Here is the link.

This combined with John Stossel TWICE this week saying Ron Paul was going to take off next week. Does this mean something big we don't know about yet or am I missing something? Reading too much into nothing? theories?

New REALITY CHECK, this could be it

First, here is a 2008 article talking about the ability to abstain

Second, here is the rule about nomination: Rule 40(d)
(d) When at the close of a roll call any
candidate for nomination for President of the United
States or Vice President of the United States has
received a majority of the votes entitled to be cast in the
convention, the chairman of the convention shall
declare that the candidate has been nominated. [emphasis mine]

Thirdly, here is RRO rules on abstaining
Do abstention votes count?

The phrase “abstention votes” is an oxymoron, an abstention being a refusal to vote. To abstain means to refrain from voting, and, as a consequence, there can be no such thing as an “abstention vote.”

In the usual situation, where either a majority vote or a two-thirds vote is required, abstentions have absolutely no effect on the outcome of the vote since what is required is either a majority or two thirds of the votes cast. On the other hand, if the vote required is a majority or two thirds of the members present, or a majority or two thirds of the entire membership, an abstention will have the same effect as a “no” vote. Even in such a case, however, an abstention is not a vote and is not counted as a vote. [RONR (11th ed.), p. 400, ll. 7-12; p. 401, ll. 8-11; p. 403, ll. 13-24; see also p. 66 of RONRIB.
This means that every abstain is one FULL vote removed from Romney he MUST have 1154 votes to get nomination. [edit to fix #required]

Fourth, here is the preamble of the The Rules of the Republican Party stating that the current rules are in effect until the convention
following be and hereby are adopted as The Rules of
the Republican Party
, composed of the rules for the
election and government of the Republican National
Committee until the next national convention, the
rules under which delegates and alternate delegates
shall be allotted to the respective states in the next
national convention, and the rules under which such
delegates and alternate delegates shall be elected and
under which contests shall be considered, and the rules
of business of this national convention.

It gets a BIT more confusing when it comes down to the Rules committee and what they can do, but there will be months to finish that research(too tired right now to work it out) as those things can't happen until the delegates are all chosen. :) Please everyone keep this post on the top via comments all day so that people will have a chance to view this information, i've been up all night doing this and need sleep... 2 finals tomorrow :) good day all!

"Lawsuits" don't usually bring me much 'comfort' either...except

On multiple occasions and in numerous ways, there has been blatant fraud and manipulation... AND IF Corporate GOP were to know that their actions were being BLOCKED...and might cause a Court Order forthwith, that might just be really good... ?

not sure a true vp

not sure a true vp announcement is legal until youre the nominee. i agree with your second point though

Ron Paul delegate count announcement?

Ron Paul delegate count announcement?

By the 9th several States that Paul is doing well in should have decided their RNC delegates.

The only states that are

The only states that are holding there state conventions between now and then are nevada and maine...we should do very well in both

To arms! To arms! The Redcoats are coming!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves

I think Stossel wasn't really predicting anything. It seemed more of an ironic/cynical comment.

On Doug Wead's post I think it's more about having it official that RP on the ballot rather than some huge endorsement or anything. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high like when Ron Paul was endorsed by Senator Tom Davis back in the South Carolina primary.

i agree that stossel seemed

i agree that stossel seemed that way but i don't know why he bothered to make the comment a second time. i have not heard the hannity one because im not a member(it was on his radioshow), if that one was as you describe this one then id be forced to agree with you on your first point.
I think being nominated at the convention is pretty much sewn up now and most people know it, so why take the dramatic step to talk directly to the people? i have my concerns here as well, what if its a bad sign? important doesn't necessarily imply good...

Lol yeah that Davis endorsement was HUGE

What a let down

True, I guess it might be

True, I guess it might be huge like the Davis endorsement but without media coverage it could fizzle.

Prediction-Ron Paul will announce

He is in it to win as a republican but if he can't get the republican nomination he will run third party- thereby putting republicans on notice - give me a fair shake or I'll run third party
He will announce on may 9

That would be sweet!!!!

Now you're talking, Lets take back our country!!!

A third party threat

With the full intention of pursuing the republican nomination may make them think twice about supporting mittens

How would they know that a

How would they know that a scandal like that will break on a certain day? That would suggest that many more people in the media are informed of the story, have it written, and are ready to go to press.

also this is not the media

also this is not the media we're talking about for the most part, DW listed the specific day, stossel just talked about 'next week', and you act like you don't know that the faces on the screen are reading off other screens, they aren't talking about the things they want to be talking about, its called a narrative, and yes the editors do know where they're going days in advance, at least on many topics, they have MANY insiders in different places that tell them things well in advance and also frame the way things play out.

not to go off in to tin foil

not to go off in to tin foil hat land(not that theres anything wrong with that haha) there are rumors of all kinds out on the internet talking about big changes, im not advocatind any of them as the truth, but there are several things said to be going on right now that they might know more about that we do, returning to acceptable issues of fraud and felony, they could be getting indicators from any number of places if romney is going to stumble, lots of people would have an interest in a smooth transition to the next nominee

As Mr. Wead would say, "What

As Mr. Wead would say, "What fun!"

heh indeed

heh indeed

The beginning of Romney's fall?

possibly a whistle blower? Scandal?

PLEASE let it be this. PLEASE!

one can only hope

one can only hope

It's only the 3rd

This is like waiting for something to come snail mail... The anticipation is killing me...

I can't wait. I'm ready! RON

I can't wait. I'm ready!

Tyler Reynolds

Ready to gooooo

Me 2......yahoooooooooo

I wonder what he meant...He

I wonder what he meant...He chose the word important. And he will be online to answer questions,,, that leads me to believe its a turning point of sorts. Either a big endorsement, maybe a running mate, maybe it's related to the elections the night before. My mind will wander for days now!

see you've touched on what got me, DW is a public speakers, they choose their words carefully, the skill set is a mix is psychology and sociology and confidence, they know words have significant meaning...
on top of that, someone from the campaign is going to directly speak to supporters, which correct me if im wrong does NOT happen very often in this sort of forum. combined i think its intruiging at a minimum.

Doug Wead has come online to

Doug Wead has come online to talk with supporters twice in the past. He has never said anything about it being an important day and he will talk. It's always been, I'm online to answer questions. Im half afraid it might be to calm the storm if Ron Paul doesn't do well on the 8th. However my gut instinct is that the campaign will be making an official announcement of sorts.

hmm, yeah i don't know, i

hmm, yeah i don't know, i can't decide on what i think is going on..

WHAT'S HAPPENING?!?!?! The way he ended his blog... it's killing me!!!

(but seriously don't say sh*t if it needs to stay on the DL for now...)

LOL i know right!

LOL i know right!

Pee Wee's basement

This will be me after another five days of speculation http://youtu.be/XjSVRsoBYNY

What could it be?

A big endorsement?? (But who's big enough to be big and yet brazen enough to go against the establishment?)

Announcing a running mate?? (But wouldn't that be a breach of the usual etiquette on the timing?)

Some legal move regarding the convention/RNC rules?? (But is there anything to litigate?)

Hoping it's not anticlimactic, like those state senator endorsement that were pre-hyped earlier in the primaries.
