Why Many Young People Love Ron Paul And Why Many Older People Despise Him
Submitted by Nick Sorrentino on Thu, 05/03/2012 - 22:50I have watched Ron Paul for a very long time and one trend I see over and over is the split that emerges between people of roughly under the age of 40 and those who are older when his name is mentioned. I have no polling data to back this up, but young people seem to like Ron Paul and older people seem not to.
This is by no means uniform. I know plenty of older folks who love the good doctor and plenty of young people who do not like him, but generally the above statement holds I think. Why is this?
Fundamentally I believe it comes down to faith in the markets and whether or not one is playing for the future, or if one is clinging to the past.

When I was a young child. B&W TV's were common.
Color TV's were new. when I started doing HVAC/R work, it was not even a recognized trade. are you aware that prior to 1955, there was no frozen food section in ANY store anywhere?
yes, people around my age are very heavily ....conditioned.
and the young people think it is all magic.....
"Fundamentally I believe it comes down to faith in the markets and whether or not one is playing for the future, or if one is clinging to the past."
I am NOT clinging to the past, I am also CERTAIN. that you have no idea where the power comes from to operate the device you are communicating on.
peace.
That's kinda harsh
Why?
Thanx,
Jason
You can't get clean in a dirty bathtub.
Sadly I do
I don't mean the post as an insult at all. The people I like the most in the movement are much older than me - I'm 36. One of the areas I focus on is energy and I have great respect for things such as refidgeration and air conditioning. Both make my native Virginia much more livable.
If your answer was "Fossil Fuels" you are correct.
85% of all power comes from this source.
until 1850, we lighted our homes with whale oil and we rode animals to get around. this was also when we reached the first 1 Billion of our species... we are now around 7 Billion. what changed?
I have studied energy for a longtime. it is a major part of what I do for a living. PM me and I will share what I know. do try to ask specific questions....
the man who turned me on to Ron Paul was 86 LAST election.
I am well over 40... many, many of the RP people I know are older than 40.
PLENTY of "older" people love Ron Paul.I turned my 30-something kids on to him.
I would say though, that more 'under 40' will brave the crowds of cheering thousands... Hearing aids are a bitch in crowds I'm told.
I'm almost 50, and there are
I'm almost 50, and there are a lot of us Paul supporters. I'm thinking older folks still get a lot of their news from the msm. They don't have extensive knowledge of the fed and think the wars on drugs and terror are good. And by definition conservatives don't like change. But we'll keep plugging away at all ages!
This isn't true for me
I'm a volunteer for the campaign and at 54 I'm the youngest in my massive county. I think we should stop with the age discrimination. Ron Paul is loved by good people, even if we personally don't like a few of them, there's something good about a person who LOVES Ron Paul.

Totally agree!
Good people are good people.
I've Spoken With Many People
While going door-to-door, I haven't noticed any age discrepancy. I never saw an excess of haters in any particular age group.
Some of us are old enough to cling to the past
before government became so massive and started stripping us of essential liberty.
old enough to cling to the past and home made ice cream
MANY of us remember how hard the depression was and those awful WAR years and when it was over and FDR trojan horse NEW DEAL and then LBJs Great Society most didnt see any problem BUT..
I remember older people in my family who warned over and over that those giveaways were going to sap our freedoms but the wise voices got fewer and fewer and time came when we were told not to ask certain questions any more for fear of offending the jews. History repeats.
The younger people, that is those born after 1945 or 50 have no memory of the bad times and just saw an easy ride on the taxpayer dime.
If you have never gone hungry or seen whole families of good people getting sick from malnutrition you cant KNOW how some
people today just want that check and a box of cupcakes once a month.
Till they die.
PS: I will be 76 at end of Oct going on 40 !
Born in Mississippi when only the better off had OAK ICE BOXES
and gas stoves and most used kerosene lamps
Happily my family had electricity and ice boxes at both Granmas
but we had gardens and chickens and a cow and shared in a hog raised by a Aunt on that old family farm and butchered there and cut up and hung in the smoke house as well as sausages and cheeses, rabbits and ducks.
Kids did chores without any back talk
It was a way of life so we all benefited and felt BIG when we got complimented by by an older person for being RESPONSIBLE.
I was anxious to get big enough to reach the paddle to churn the butter!
I sat on the newspapers covering the ice cream bucket while an Uncle turned the paddle under the ice tray until the cream and sugar grew solid. When everyone got a dish of fresh home made ice cream with berries we had gone out picking, cleaned, and washed
we all feasted and I could say I HELPED.
It was a wonderful feeling. I was 4 YO !
That Uncle was killed on the landing on Guam.
We OLD PEOPLE have memories.
.
.
ain't that the truth?
I remember being taught in school about 'rights'. We were told that we had the right to do whatever we wanted as long as it did not infringe on someone else's rights.
I still 'think' like that - hard to imagine, really, how far we've strayed from that very basic.... very right, idea.
Older folks are more comfortable with the New Deal paradigm...
... which has been dominant for the past 80 years. Younger people, on the other hand, recognize that the New Deal has run out of gas and that we now need a new paradigm. I have further thoughts on this here:

Thank you.

Good thoughts
I agree.
mind control
I think a lot of it also has to do with the long-term effects of TV brainwashing. By retirement age, most adults' minds are shut down from TV-watching.
I agree with you on that!
As I am just over forty and was one of the "victims" of M.S.M. Until 2007 I was a neo-con that believed all that Fox & Rush said! It actually took a few years to de-program myself and learn what is real and what is false. It is amazing on how easily deceived people are! L.O.L....It took a person a lot younger than myself to bring me to truth!!!!
If this old woman knew you back then,
I'd have set you straight about that, too.
It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with what we feel we're entitled to. Are we entitled to a return on what the govt. made us invest in (i.e. social security and medicare) or are we entitled to free everything (i.e. distribution of wealth)? I think you will find young and old in those groups. I thought we finished with this topic a while ago. It doesn't produce anything positive and keeps us from the task at hand. Get the nomination for Dr. Paul!
I agree on that!
And so would my Ron Paul supporting mother who is retired! I was agreeing about mind control that media has over people, not the entire thing about older people and Paul. I know so many people "zombied" out by Fox and Rush...most of them are between 45-55. I don't know any younger people who watch the news. Most are either uninterested in politics or they study from the net...that would explain Paul's support from the youth. From those around me, it's usually the younger females that hate discussing politics and know nothing about it. There are some of us trying to change that. Don't want them mad at me! Because I know there are a lot on this site! Just my observation from my area.
yep,
absolutely.
It is the difference; the reason.
Nobody (over 60/70/80) DOESN'T watch TV.
Powerful tyranny tool now in its death rattle.
Um....Not exactly correct
I am 63 and gave my TV the "boot" about 19 years ago!
I love Ron Paul and all those here who are of the same mind for freedom!
May the good Lord give us victory!
