Santorum is Endorsing Romney

Just got the email as a (former) supporter: Excerpt: "Above all else, we both agree that President Obama must be defeated. The task will not be easy. It will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious. Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime."

Guess I'm fully on board over here now.

I think many/most of us

at one time, was not where we are now.

I am a firm believer that grasping as much of history and understanding some basic fundamentals of monetary/banking is where answers for the present are grounded.

With much experience with tea parties, it is overwhelming that history and core issue solution is not a main concentration.

Study with an open mind.

Welcome to the Battle for the freedom of humanity.

I hope more people will

I hope more people will recognize this disgusting display for what it is and be "fully on board over here" as well. Our nation is in such complete turmoil and none of these other candidates have the skillset or the desire to actually restore America.
No one but Ron!

Welcome to the rEVOLution

Here there is no selling out, compromising of principles, betraying the Constitution, and most importantly, there is no giving up on America. I think you will like it here.

In liberty.

Yuck! The Term "Release" and "Santorum" should never

be used in the same sentence.

I need a shower...

Not a surprise

He's a self-serving hyper religious sycophant and monumental hypocrite. Satantorum is the epitome of what passes for Catholicism today. As Ron Paul represents the true spirit of the Republican Party so too does he Represent the spirit of Christianity.

Satantorum is all Dogma. He has no personal relationship with God nor does he really care. It's all a dog and pony show.

dreber, the author of this thread, Merry Mom, is Catholic...

... and I doubt that she would agree with your comment about Catholicism. Furthermore, unless you know Sen. Santorum quite well on a personal level, I don't know how you can say with any confidence that Santorum does not care about, nor have a personal relationship with, God. While we can comment on a person's actions, we should be cautious, and charitable, concerning what is in the mind and the heart.

I have a different take on Sen. Santorum, viewing him instead as a good man who suffers from an unbalanced sense of loyalty:

P.S.: Merry Mom, this is the 200th post on this, your first Daily Paul thread. Congratulations! In addition to the link above, I also posted in response to a question you asked:

I knew this was coming and I could not have said it better myself. I hope he lost any remaining credibility amongst any Christian he appealed to.

Why Santorum Supporters Like Ron Paul

Here are the ten most scathing Santorum ads against Mitt Romney. (Note: that they are still up at this link although I've noticed several in other places that have been pulled. I wonder why :)

I would encourage any confused Santorum supporter who visits here to once again review these ads and ask yourself, "How can he now endorse Romney after these ads that he approved?"

With twelve terms in office, I am sure Ron Paul was very familiar with Santorum prior to this campaign. In the debate, when Dr. Paul stated "you are a fake" I thought he did so almost apologetically..almost in a gentle way as though he was simply stating a fact, not maligning a competitor. Ask yourself after watching these ten Santorum Attack ads, how could he endorse Romney if he felt that way. And, then consider the consistency, the honesty of Dr. Paul. You will find that the core values you hold so dear are shared by Dr. Paul.

As I always say...
The way they campaign is the way they will govern,

Ron Paul has been preparing for this run for 8 years. He has developed the most well trained and competent ground force... planned to work within whatever budget his supporters came up with...
pledged to not run up debt...
and lived up to his reputation as a humble and principled man...
restrained himself from any and all opportunity to spin, lie, cheat or badger another opponent disrespectfully on a personal level.

Rick Santorum has approached his run like a reality TV show.
Survivor comes to mind.
He had more Pac money than Ron Paul yet he ran up a debt. He has no real ground force.
As a PA resident I can tell you he lied constantly -- every time he spoke-- about his conservative politics.
And obviously he attacked his opponents - even calling Ron Paul pro abortion - after delivering 4,000 babies.
Santorum got alot of people's hopes up only to dash their expectations.

Romney in short is campaigning like the prince of England supported by the the most evil entity on earth - The Federal Reserve - and treating voters like the unwashed masses.
Like Obama, Romney runs these raffles for a $3 donation - you can win a day with Romney. That's political money laundering - to create a false appearance of mass support. It's a cover-up for the concentration of money that comes from a few powerful sources. The special interests he will work for.

“Give a man a gun, he can rob a bank. Give a man a central bank, and he can rob a country and the world.”

Just wanted to say welcome Merry Mom!

Glad you are here :)

As far as the value of

As far as the value of Santorum's Endorsement is concerned, I would simply like to restate a few things that Santorum himself has said.

Santorum has said that Romney is “uniquely disqualified” to be the GOP’s presidential pick making his point perfectly clear when he stated “Pick any other Republican in the country. He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama,”

Of course Santorum also provided us with some insight into his steadfast nature when he declared "...it was against the principles I believed in, but you know, when you’re part of the team, sometimes you take one for the team, for the leader, and I made a mistake. You know, politics is a team sport, folks, and sometimes you’ve got to rally together and do something, and in this case I thought testing and finding out how bad the problem was wasn’t a bad idea"

Of course everyone can form their own opinion on how much value to place in Santorum's endorsement.

santorium

is a grade "A" piece of garbage

i watched more than 3 or more of his town hall meetings before all of the contests began like the ones from him in iowa and so on all on cspan.

he is a moron politician who just used the system to feel better about himself and his ego , his bank account , and so on. I seriously hope he is done and out of politics after this and finds something else to do that does'nt involve america's future.

what would really suck is if romney gets in there and makes santorium the condom CZAR or the Bedroom behavior CZAR!!!
santorium would froth at the mouth for a position like that

one more thing , this man has no RESPECT for RON PAUL, I cant tell you how many times I noticed him with that wide mouth smirk on his face rolling his fucking eyeballs while Paul would be given time to speak. Such immoral cowardice is what most politicians are made of and its a sad state that we live in where people like that actually had a following of people that would vote for him.

SHEEEEEPLLEEEEE BAAAAAAHHHH!! BAHHH!!!
GOODBYE SANTORIUM.!!!

"He's this eccentric Ghandi-Like figure that you cant touch with the normal bribes that people respond to."

Is There A RP/Santorum Video

That shows all of the things Santorum said against Romney and why he should not under any circumstances get Santorum votes and delegates' votes?

Seems that would be very helpful for Santorum supporters and for *explaining* why Ron Paul is their *only* Christian, family values, prolife, (any many other isues) choice.

And, perhaps, most importantly such a video would put into perspective Dr. Paul's "you are a fake" debate comment. As I recall, Dr. Paul's "fake" comment was delivered without any malice, it was simply stated as a fact, ie. "you are not who you say you are...you are not for what you say you are for."

While it should not be in such a video, it seems to me that Santorum supporters, once educated to the *real, very real and consistent* Dr. Paul would also be somewhat *fake* if they believe in what they say they believe in and then support a candidate who is *against* everything they are for.

Reaching out to Christians

This would be a useful video. I am working on a blog post about how the Christians who say they are using the "lesser of two evils" argument to support Romney should actually choose Ron Paul.

Please Do Merry Mom

Some of us love Dr. Paul like a father, grandfather...a hero. He has worked so tirelessly for so long. I have this image of him after a poster a long time ago related a story. She was apparently a jr. worker catching a ride in the car with the Pauls. He had just finished a brilliant speech that was largely unheard. She saw tears running down his face and Carol reach over to pat his hand. That got to me, big time.

Not only do we need the Christian vote...the Christians need to vote for this gentle, brilliant, Godly man. And, bless his heart, Ron Paul deserves to have the Christians in his corner before he moves on. He would just shake his head in near disbelief, smile, and think...I am so grateful that God would not only let me serve all these years, but also give me a sign that I was doing his will in trying to help set his people free. This is more than a political battle..it is a spiritual battle as well.

This is, and always was,

If Santorum endorses Romney,

If Santorum endorses Romney, what do Santorum delegates have to do, if anything, with that endorsement. I guess I am asking, "Do they have to cast their vote for Romney now?" Please excuse my ignorance. It is just a nagging question I have and don't know the answer.

his delegates don't have to vote for Romney

but if history holds at all, most of them probably will. I don't think his delegates have technically been released yet. When that happens, then they can all vote for whichever candidate they want. It is highly unlikely that many choose not to vote for Romney. But it would certainly be smart for you guys to try to convince them to vote for Paul.

Shazad, there is another factor here...

... In states like Louisiana and Oklahoma, where Sen. Santorum is entitled to delegate slots based on Primary vote share, Santorum delegate slots actually have (or soon will have) Paul flesh-and-blood delegates filling them. Thus, many of Santorum's delegates will go to Paul because they are already Paul supporters (same thing for Gingrich delegates in Southern states where he did well).

I also think that a complete release of Santorum delegates will eliminate any doubts about whether Dr. Paul will reach the 5 state plurality threshold, as Louisiana and Oklahoma now look increasingly likely to be among the needed 5, joining Minnesota, Maine, and, probably, Iowa (and Paul also currently has decent prospects in Washington, Colorado, and Alaska, in addition to whatever else that goes his way).

I think we are looking at a roll-call at National. Shazad, do you think, going back one year, that many Romney supporters thought that their one and only nomination rival in Tampa would be... Ron Paul?

A Constitutional, Christian conservative who voted for Ron and stands with Rand

I don't disagree

For certain, Santorum's delegates who are really Paul supporters will absolutely vote for Paul on the first ballot. But a large number of Santorum's delegates will be Santorum supporters or will just be typical Republicans or local GOP leaders. This group will go strongly for Romney at the convention.

I have zero doubt that Paul will reach the 5 state minimum for entering his name into nomination.

Regarding your last paragraph, I think a lot of Romney supporters are somewhat surprised that he's actually going to become the nominee. Even though he would have been considered the favorite a year ago today, if you were to bet Romney or "the field" a year ago, "the field" would have been a more popular pick. I don't think anyone thought it would be a waltz to the nomination, though no one knew who the top challenger would be. Regarding Ron Paul, seeing as he was the last candidate to withdraw in 2008, it's not a surprise that he's still in it right now after others have dropped off. I wouldn't go as far as calling him a "rival" in Tampa, though, unless he starts winning primaries (my feeling is that Santorum ended up being Romney's biggest challenger during this cycle, since he's the one that drew away the most votes). Tonight will be a good indication of Paul's chances of winning primaries going forward, and whether or not he'll be an actual rival at the convention.

Who releases Santorum

Who releases Santorum delegates, and when/where does that happen. Thank you for your fast reply. I am still learning.

depends on the state

It's different for every state. Some have released the delegates already, because their rules state that once a candidate's campaign is suspended, they lose delegates. Some states require a formal statement or letter from the candidate. Often, candidates will just keep their delegates for a while just in case the presumptive nominee does something to disqualify themselves. For example, if Mitt Romney robbed a bank tomorrow, you can bet a lot of money that Santorum and Gingrich would jump back into the race. Assuming that doesn't happen, they are both likely to eventually release their delegates. I don't know when it would be.

... or if Romney were to do

... or if Romney were to do something disqualifying such as say buy people a lunch in return for their votes. Though I suppose tossing your money around in order to get votes is ok as long as you're the "presumptive" nominee right?

4 camps in Santorum world

1) Those who formerly made fun of Romney sheeple and have now become one
2)Those who will support Ron Paul only to get an open convention
3) Those who will support Ron Paul for president as the most viable anti-Establishment candidate remaining.
4) Those who are still praying about what to do.
