Obama Launches Campaign in Empty Arena!

Barack Obama launched his campaign in unspectacular fashion today at Ohio State University, the largest college in the crucial swing state. A photo posted to twitter by Mitt Romney's campaign spokesman Ryan Williams reveals sparse attendance. The above image, according to Williams, was taken during the President's first official campaign speech.

During the speech, Obama ripped into the presumptive GOP nominee and discussed nation building at home, but the most newsworthy item of the day was not the talking points Obama delivered: it was the crowd... or lack thereof. According to ABC News, the Obama campaign had expected an "overflow" of people. Instead, the arena looked half-empty. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Obama organizers even had people move from the seats to the floor of the gym in order to project a larger crowd on television.

According to the Toledo Blade, the venue for Obama's rally seats 20,000 but "there were a lot of empty seats." Comparatively, Obama drew a crowd of 35,000 at Ohio State when he campaigned for former Governor Ted Strickland in 2010.

The official Barack Obama Tumblr boasts a figure from ThinkProgress that 14,000 attended the event--70% of the stadium's seating capacity.

the audacity

Breitbart evidently hasn't seen a Mitt Romney rally. While that arena is not filled to capacity, the attendance is far better than what Romney could ever hope to draw.

BINGO!

and we would be STOKED if our Hero drew 14,000, so this was a let down for me. I was hoping for a Romneyesque crowd of about 200...dreaming...

They probably got letters from the White House...

"Dear Supporter,

Let me be absolutely clear, if you do not show up to my kick-off, you're dead. No, really. I made it law that I can drone strike you if I want to because if you're not with me then you must be with someone else and that will not be tolerated. So watch your Back if you don't move me "FORWARD"!

God bless me,

Barack Obama."

Not too many Paul supporters....

in North East Ohio. People are mostly apathetic as Mitt's 300 person Euclid rally showed. All we need here is a Paul vs. Obama debate and I'm sure we could change Ohio to a Paul state.

I wouldn't drop down to Romney's level

of discrediting people based on lies. Less than a minute of internet search led me to a panorama video during the speech. No idea if there were 14000 people but it was definitly not empty. However, bringing Romney's lack of support at rallies to media attention can only help Paul :) Spit in your own etch-a-sketch twice, eh Rommney staff :)

Where is Ron Paul?!

Why isn't he coming to Ohio as well - this is a swing state - and he needs to show Ohioans who he is. He can pack that stadium, and any others as well. I know he focuses on caucus states, but it would be helpful to let other states know he's running, which would help him in the long run when he wins the nomination. :) Obamnee have both been here already.

I know an RP group at Northern KY Univ. was trying to bring him here during MayFest - huge crowds.

The Ron Paul campaign should

The Ron Paul campaign should rent out the downtown Cincinnati arena and do a tri-state rally for folks from Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. We'd fill it up.

My Guess Is Money, If We Were Able to Donate More To Him

I believe he would be more places. The campaign is not in the red and is doing the best job it can with the amount of money that has been donated. I hope more can donate and as his supporters increase so should the donations! I know I donated the max because I could and did so because I want him to be our next President. He is the only one who will make the perfect president for America and Americans! God Bless all who know Ron Paul is the only logical choice for this country!

Don't let down your guard

This creep still has Millions of dedicated Socialistic,Communistic, support me from cradle to grave - leftest minions to do his bidding. They will be a force to be reckoned with in November.

A student stated

that they were paid to go door to door the week before the event asking people to show up that is wasn't a political showing just that obama would be there. I heard that on Rush last night.

Should Romney be the one talking "sparse attendance", really???

Thinking back

I still marvel how he was able to pack Invesco Field with 85,000 people four years ago. That was something else... I wouldn't be surprised if Paul could pull that off:
