Not Quite so Fast. . .

The situation in 2008 with one Utah delegate fighting to vote contrary to his state’s (“bound”) delegates at the RNC is a bit more complicated than first meets the eye. The delegate in question was actually a Ron Paul supporter who did not vote his conscience for fear of being removed from the floor of the convention.

But, by the time of the RNC, Romney had dropped out of the race. As the RNC role call vote approached, the Utah State Central Committee passed a rule that Utah’s delegates were bound to vote for John McCain in the first round.

The delegate argued that (i) the meeting where the State Central Committee ruled Utah delegates must vote for McCain was illegal, and (ii) RNC specifies that delegates may vote for whomever they wish. The article explains all the drama involved and the various personalities and positions who huffed, puffed, and failed to assist the delegate in his quest to vote contrary to the pack. In the end, the delegate (a Ron Paul supporter) cast his vote for Romney because the party rule in place at the time of the primary required delegates to vote for Utah’s first-place selection in the presidential primary.

When you cast your vote, do not allow yourself to be intimidated by a group of chicken hawks and party peons. Comparatively, you have little to fear.

The difference between rules and facts (message to delegates)

This is very promising, I hope the people being seated as delegates understand a few things.
You will be put under a LOT of pressure to "represent the voters" or "unite the party" or whatever they think will get to you. It will get to your honorable sensibilities, too. But LIBERTY is about sticking your neck out from time to time, and if you support Ron Paul but vote for Mitt Romney YOU ARE LYING. Pretending it is the "right" thing because you are "bound" is a pansy excuse. The WORST you will face is a fine and having neocons look down their nose at you. A "bound" delegate is not literally tied up and threatened with death if they do not vote like they were told. I mean it, those of you who cannot muster the cajones to vote your heart because you think it is immoral to break some bogus RNC rule are about as confused as it gets.

UNDERSTAND THAT THE RNC WILL BE A SCRIPTED "MADE FOR TV" MOVIE. If you twitch you will be threatened with arrest and surrounded by jack-booted thugs who look ready to arrest you, and even your fellow "Republicans" will be itching to see you tazed. If you are not going in prepared for BATTLE you will be eaten alive. Very polite battle - all with a smile and oh-so-civil tone - but the establishment see this to as a coupe d'etat. Those going up against the establishment better start thinking that way, too.
I know RP folks have a mindset of "don't settle for the lesser of 2 evils" but sometimes, one finds oneself in a sea of evil and you can only choose the least evil option. Those of you heading to the RNC need to heed my warning: We were RON PAUL BOUND delegates last time, and the GOP refused to announce our presence. It was not in the script.
Literally, we were instructed on day one that there was a script, and only authorized people would be permitted near microphones and if they varied from the script their microphone would be cut. At one point, I found a sign on my chair with a script of my own. "Coun-try First! Coun-try First." They actually scripted the CHANT from the attendees.
Perhaps the most valuable tip I can give you... They will have a free bar somewhere, probably the basement. Understand the 2008 process and fallout have left me all out of faith and hope; I do not expect you to succeed.
