Are Traffic Lights Necessary? I Don't Think So!

Man Ron Paul has me thinking about crazy things Lmao. The more I think of it its against the law to stop somebody who hasn't injured somebody, right?

Use more turning circles.

Use more turning circles. They pump through traffic and eliminate the t-bone accidents that plague 4 way intersections. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhHzly_6lWM

Traffic in circle has right of way.

Practice makes perfect.

Free includes debt-free!

in theory

maybe. in jersey people are just as confused by circles as they are by yield signs.

Rotaries

Roundabouts as they call them in Ireland. You're exactly right about traffic flow and accidents.

Colchester, New London County, Connecticut

LOL!

We call them roundabouts in Michigan too! Don't like them much, but getting used to them.

A few years ago I saw a news

A few years ago I saw a news report about removing traffic lights in Holland. Drivers were more courteous and there were fewer accidents without them. I'm glad to see the idea is spreading.

I lived in Saigon between (

I lived in Saigon between ( yes that's in Vietnam ) 1999 and 2003. Search youtube for hochiminh city traffic, or saigon traffic and tell me what you think?

While there are a few traffic lights it's rare that anyone observes them just like there's a mandatory helmet law which nobody obeys either. Or an income tax that few pay. In fact the South Vietnamese are way more libertarian than most Americans who talk a bunch of b/s and then proceed to do as they're told by the state.

But it's communist yes yes I know. Ha

With all the myriad of

With all the myriad of invasions on individual rights traffic lights isn't one I have ever contemplated.

First lets deal with the speed limit (in most places)

then we can discus this (which will obviously not work everywhere)

we want freedom not chaos...

think a little bit more about this please.

Chaos? Did u see the YouTube

Chaos? Did u see the YouTube I put up? I just believe in following the constitution! And don't think you can stop somebody that hasn't broken the law and by law I mean injure or kill someone. Am I wrong for thinking this way? I just feel like RP has woken me up to a lot of things. A few years ago I wouldn't have thought about something like this! Crazy man lol. I love Ron Paul

juan maldonado

no I didn't

I just watched it now

yes it is interesting, and I would agree with you and the idea in principle...

however, something tells me that this simply won't work everywhere.

It depends on the area.

I live in a semi-rural area but there are a lot of subdivisions my way. For many years busy intersections were controlled by 4 way stops. When rush hour hit cars were lined up for a mile or more. At the busiest intersections lights were installed and many cars could move. The lights definitely helped with getting the traffic moving and clearing out the jams.

Have you seen the way four

Have you seen the way four wheelers drive? They give out class D's like candy!

Not a good idea.

This is absolutely stupid, and part of the reason we get labeled as loons and nutjobs... This is a worse idea than a moon colony.

1. Traffic is fast and it is easy to miss something if you look away, even if just to look at a mirror.
2. Corners, buildings and large vehicles make it impossible to see the person coming in time at many intersections.
3. There is of course the simple fact that people are stupid. This alone would not hold up for a law, but combined with the above reasons making it impossible to control properly in some situations, it is worth noting.

Freedom may be worth dying for, but personally I'd rather not die for someone's freedom to not pay any attention or wait their turn for anyone.

Liberty is a fantastic ideal, but it CAN be taken too far. It should NOT be legal to kill, and traffic lights serve us all in a very similar fashion as anti-murder laws.

What? But I've seen broken

What? But I've seen broken traffic lights and no one died! They took turns going, so I don't understand what you're talking bout. Can a cop stop someone who hasn't injured somebody or some thing? Can they?

I've been T-Boned at an

I've been T-Boned at an intersection where the lights didn't work at night. There was no possible way for me to see the other guy. So unless you're going to put stop signs at every single intersection everywhere (which would SUCK) I say, keep the traffic lights.

Private Roads

The answer here is Property Rights and Free Markets!

On private roads the owner can decide whether or not he wants traffic lights, and people can decide whether or not they would want to travel on his road if he didn't have traffic lights.

Those of you opposed are just rabid Road Socialists!
