What New Hampshire Really Means - From a NH Voter, please listen
So, I just got off of a plane, and had a first look at the results without getting my hopes up before hand.
I see people are already reacting: the main campaign failed us, boisterous supporters sabotaged us, etc. I see people going through the stages - denial, anger, pleading, and acceptance.
I hear people saying, "How could this happen in the Live Free or Die State?"
Let me clarify something. New Hampshire is NOT the Live Free or Die state any more. Our state is quickly becoming a Democratic New England state, and has been going in that direction for some time. I know the people at FSP chose New Hampshire for its spirit, but I don't think they realized the power of the tide of whiny rich liberals coupled with refugees from Massachusetts.
Why did we do so "poorly"? Two reasons: John McCain, and Barack Obama. McCain got the old independents. All of the young energy, all of the enthusiasm, of the young independents went to Obama. People wanted a pretty face, or a familiar one, but not the truth.
I say this sounding negative, and trust me I would have been happy with MY STATE had Ron Paul done better. But, and I say this in all earnest, Ron Paul winning New Hampshire would have been a bad thing.
John McCain winning New Hampshire is bad for him. Just as Iowa is bad for Huckabee.
Both Iowa and New Hampshire have had a horrible record of selecting Republican candidates. In truth, the early primaries are ALL media hype, which is why we in NH promote it so much - it brings us tons of attention and cash. John McCain's cash. Mitt Romney's cash. Cash they no longer have.
Iowa was Huckabee's peak. NH is McCain's peak. Just as NH was McCain's peak before. And Dean's peak. And Buchanan's peak.
And we still have a LONG way to go.
For McCain to win New Hampshire, he had to spend a lot of money. A LOT of money. We keep berating the main campaign but they know this. That is why they have not spent the money we "think" they should. If Ron Paul had used the 25 million to win NH, he would burn out shortly after, just like McCain will.
Just trust me on this. Reagan did not win the early primaries either.

what is really being said
This is a war, not to be won in one or two skirmishes via banner waving and entusiasium, cute as it is.. We fight years of entrenched special interests and downright evil. They are formidable - a David VS Goliath scenario (I know lots of you see it this way), and we must be fearless,in the face of the beast. He, Ron Paul, staggers me with his light and intelligence.
It is our job to act as his interpreters:
does every waitress you've met know that he thinks it's wrong that their tips are taxed?
does every policeman you've had the misfortune to meet, know that he champions their safety?
does every elderly person you've spoken to, know that he cares that they are living on less and he want's to fix it ?
is every will maker you know, aware that Ron Pail wants to do away with the :" death tax" ( yes I know, requires speaking to one if us dreaded old people - please try to look respectable, button down shirts are nice and Marshall's sells these affordable on any budget)?
Does every young person you know been told that one man stands between them and eternal debt, for monies pledged by silent consent? Does every hunter and veteran you know realize this one man has always defended their right to bear arms?
does every vaccine free or homeschooler, or for that matter, any parent you know been told that he defends them?
or that he believes in the rights of patients vs. big HMO companies that mandate their care. You get the idea... who do you know?
I'm In NH
I concur completely - (especially about the liberals moving up -here) Look at how the Republicans are getting slammed - Obama and Hillary got more then 200,000 votes put together.
"Many of us agree that you and I have no right to use coercion against people who don't owe us anything. The same prohibition applies to groups of people who constitute the government. The reason is simple: unjust acts do not become just when legalized. "

Look at what works . . .
. . . a week ago, there were a lot of posts about Jefferson County, Iowa, where Dr.Paul carried the caucuses in that county.
For those who intend to go forward in their own communities and states, I suggest referring back to the lessons of Jefferson County. They did a lot of things right, and basically did it on their own.
The New Hampshire outcome is a loss, by our own terms, because Dr. Paul had himself set "double digits" as a benchmark. A whole lot of hard work had been done in that state, and in the end, the campaign's visibility exceeded its viability.
At some level, a decision may need to be made soon as to whether to persevere in the Republican primaries or to go the 3rd party route. I doubt the 3rd Party approach will be chosen, since Dr. Paul did that one before. And the GOP path doesn't lead to a nomination if the Dr. is an also-ran in every primary.
But there is merit in perseverance anyway. It begins to look as if the neo-con candidates might stalemate each other---if Huck grabs some other states, as he certainly will, Romney has the money and organization to regroup, McCain scoops up money and lots of free publicity, and Giuliani's "delay" strategy kicks in for him in NY, Ohio, Penn, Etc.
If the neo-cons deadlock before the convention, then ANY delegates Dr. Paul can scrounge up will be significant. I am NOT suggesting that Ron Paul delegates should "horse-trade" or ask favors in return for supporting one of the other candidates. But our people WOULD be the focus of attention, as potential "kingmakers." That is the time to force attention to the fundamental issues of the campaign: civil liberty, secure borders, fiscal sanity, Constitutional government, non-intervention, smaller government.
This is a difficult week. The disappointment in NH and the full-scale attack in the New Republic are two real hurdles for the campaign and its supporters.
Let's remind ourselves that Dr. Paul STILL has the largest network of ordinary citizen supporters, namely, the meetup groups. And the campaign STILL has a whole lot of money.
Ron Paul rules the Internet. What New Hampshire and Iowa teach us is that there is still a tremendous disconnect between virtual reality and real reality.
This should not be a surprise to anyone.
I won't be spending so much time on-line, from here on out. I will be spending it doing old-fashioned political campaign work---talking to voters, identifying supporters, helping them get out to vote when the time comes.
I encourage everyone to apply the lessons of Jefferson County to your own community!

this is the
most reasonable and compelling post I've read since this evening began.
Thanks

"Why did we do so "poorly"? Two reasons: John McCain, and Barack Obama. McCain got the old independents. All of the young energy, all of the enthusiasm, of the young independents went to Obama."
That's a good analysis. I agree.
Wow jaysonks....great post
That's the best summary of the New Hampshire elections
I've read. Far too rational to be posted now, you see most are busy tearing their clothes and pulling their hair out. Please re-post later.
That's exactly what we needed to hear
As I see this as the one critical factor we have to do is keep Ron in the race with
CA$H, first and foremost. The longer RP is in the race, the longer the message has a chance to get out. If he can stay past Super Tuesday we will begin to the the machine's gears like never before. We'll see the planted candidates, we'll see the
"chosen" and we'll see the media freaking out like never before. If you really truly want to see some fireworks and a show that has never been seen before in American politics, we MUST KEEP RON FLUSH WITH CA$H.
The money donation week is a must to create some headlines and get the cash flow going.
After that we've got to get the precinct captions plan moving forward. The delegates organized etc. We've got the structure we just need to use it.
Puppets come and puppets go but the world's stage is getting cluttered.
Excellent post
Thank you very much for such an intelligent viewpoint, you are spot on my friend as the real stakes start next week right here in Michigan and I'm telling you Ron is king here!
I think
this is a pretty good post and makes a lot of sense. I think the main difference with our campaign and Reagan's is that we face the corrupting smearing and obstruction of the old media. I don't think Reagan was excluded from debates and tv and newspaper reporting. However, this post is a promising perspective. We do have a long way to go. Perhaps this will teach us to take nothing for granted and recognize that we can win this, but it will take a superhuman collective effort. We have just begun the fight.
AMEN!!
And please keep in mind it's all about delegates in the end. I too live in NH and was somewhat disappointed in the results given this state's motto, but as mentioned above, the left wing democrats have taken NH over and it get's worse every year with the influx of ppl from Taxachucetts moving to NH to escape high taxes. Unfortunately, they bring their politics with them as well. I do however want to thank ALL the people who came to NH and made sacrifices to help Ron out here. NH results should make us all work harder and go the extra mile to help Dr. Paul win.
Hey Thanks
...I hope residents of other states clarify things as well as you just did. You said things I have not heard before anywhere. If true, it explains so much. It is better to truly understand what you are up against. Helps formulate strategy, a lot. We have to have this kind of information to place the right kind of ads and the right kind of TV spots. Our foot soldiers need to be armed with an understanding of the demographics. Guess some of us are on a learning curve. That's good.

McCain Speech
I didn't see/hear the speech, but was on the phone with a friend who said McCain lost. I said he won NH, to which my friend replied, "He won, but lost. During McCain's speech, his supporters were chanting "Mac's back, interrupting him. The third time he got mad, and you could tell he was mad." My friend said it was on a few different MSM's, (in a bad way) and that Keith Olberman had the best analogy of the speech, saying something like "It sounded like all of his writers wrote one sentence, and threw them together in no particular order."
I'll have to search on youtube for this; (just got off the phone with my friend), but McCain may have shot himself in the foot.
My friend has also listened to an Obama speech, and said that "he's good, got a little Martin Luther King thing going." No, my friend doesn't like Obama, can just spot a good speaker. Just goes to show people want smooth over truth...

You're right about Iowa and NH not picking the candidates
that end of being the winners at the end of the race.
Thanks for reminding us that it may be a good thing not having Ron Paul come in first in these states.
Then we would have something to really worry about. LOL
Instead of feeling discouraged look at the numbers.....
Look at the numbers
http://edition.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state...
New Hampshire appears to be a DEMOCRATIC state more than anything so realize that Ron Paul is still a contender.
Everybody wants to paint NH as an Independent or Republican state and it is NOT....just look at the number of Democratic votes casted versus Republican.
Ron Paul's campaign knows a hell of a lot more than you are giving them credit for. McCain may have won NH but he is BROKE...in fact he is working off of borrowed money. THAT'S RIGHT. He took out a huge loan just to "work" NH. He will fade away fast as will Huckster and Ghouliani.
HANG IN THERE PEOPLE THIS IS JUST ROUND TWO....it means nothing because we have the money and the staying power to carry on and the message will be heard by more voters once the number of candidates gets dwindled down!
well said thks for a nice
well said thks for a nice positive post lol jack
Bump this
Well said. Nice Post. I think that this should be on the main page.
Thank you for the insight
That helps put things into some perspective. However, I think we should still look into these reports that the votes didn't equal the numbers that they should have. Meetups numbers getting half the votes, people who knew they voted at a precinct seeing their numbers at zero, etc.
"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." - Romans 12:18
Brilliant article that explains why we love Dr. Paul:

Thank you & also Manystrom for being a light in the darkness
and to those of us still upset and venting negativity at these result, please chill out dudes, this revolution is just getting started!
Ron Paul for Peace!
yes
YES
Thanks
For the sober analysis. I needed it. This whole thing is one hell of an emotional roller coaster.
I'm also encouraged by Dr. Paul's apparent enthusiasm (though I'm sure he's sorely disappointed--I don't know how he does it...).
I think it did us well early on to have so many candidates in the race. It brought everyone into a closer race and prevented one or two candidates from emerging as the clear front-runners. This went a long way towards allowing Dr. Paul to emerge as a serious contender and put himself ahead of a few of the stragglers.
But now I think we'll benefit from the field narrowing. If Hunter and Thompson were to drop, which I think is quite possible in the near future, it would be down to Romney, Huckabee, McCain, Paul, and Giuliani. And, even though they didn't include Paul in the recent Fox debate, they at least were willing to invite the top five. With only five left in the race, Dr. Paul is bound to get more time to get his message out.
Now, due to the incredible efforts of his supporters, Dr. Paul has the cash on hand to continue the campaign as long as any other candidate. We all saw the numbers from last quarter--few candidates have much money to continue running healthy campaigns. They were all betting the farm on Iowa and/or New Hampshire propelling them to the top and then hoping that that momentum would carry them to an inevitable nomination. Clearly, that has not happened; it is still a tightly-contested race. But Dr. Paul never banked on that. He knows it's a long, grueling marathon. He's in it for the long haul and has the cash to prove it.
For the other candidates, if they don't soon get swept along by the momentum of widespread support, they will have to drop for lack of funds. Remember, this is a small and shrinking party. Everyone in the world expects the Democrats to win because they associate the current criminal administration with "Republicans." Witness the discrepancy in funds raised by the two parties. Also witness the fact that Ron Paul raised as much as Hillary and Obama in the fourth quarter.
So when one or two more drop and we are down to three and then two candidates running against Dr. Paul, then he will get even more attention. We all know that Ron is behind in the polls because he gets ignored and ridiculed. Howard Stern only just the other day found out who Dr. Paul is. And what happens when people do get exposed to his message? They get excited! "Finally! Someone is running for president who believes what I do!" And they don't turn back. You know that every one of us here will write him in if he were to not be on the ballot.
As your post says, the other candidates will peak. They will rise and they will fade. Voters will fancy slick hair one week, forked-tongue preaching the next, chest-thumping the next, and snake oil the next. But, once they've been woken up and hear the truth about freedom, the constitution, and the crimes committed against them by their government for generations, they don't go back. This is why Dr. Paul is the only one who's fundraising continues to grow every quarter.
We're still in this. We've got the stamina, the vision, and the pace for the long road ahead while the rest were hoping to sprint ahead of the pack and be carried away by the cheering crowd. Breathe deep. Buckle down. Chin up. Eyes on the prize.
Thanks!
I needed that, too. Charge onward, you true Patriots.

Thank you. I think I'll be able to get some sleep now.
Perhaps we should all give it a rest. This was a tough day. I put a lot of hope in NH because of this wrong perception.

We must keep our mind, words and actions positive and help Ron Paul in every way we can.
If we control our temper and our minds and keep focused on winning we will have a lot of success.
Everyone can not win and except for Obama no other candidate but Ron Paul excites his supporters.
We are like the snowball beginning to roll down the mountain side we are gathering new supporters and donors and helpers day by day.
This campaign has just begun to start.
Stay energized and active and we CAN WIN!!!
