Jesse Benton to Politico: Paul feared convention mayhem...didn't like disrespect at recent events

From Politco:

Ron Paul’s message to the GOP
By James Hohmann, May 14, 2012

Ron Paul sent a message to the GOP establishment Monday that he’s not looking to cause mayhem at this summer’s Republican National Convention.

By announcing that he won’t compete in the remaining primaries, Paul tacitly assured the party that he didn’t intend to disrupt the likely Tampa coronation of Mitt Romney. And he also telegraphed to even the hardest core of his hope-trumping-evidence supporters that he might not, after all, be the 2012 nominee...

"...'It concerns him,' campaign chairman Jesse Benton told POLITICO. 'He wants to convey to everybody and our staff want to convey that we’ll lose more than we gain if we go and we’re disrespectful. Respect and decorum are very important to Dr. Paul.'

'You need to give respect to get respect,' he added. 'We are confident that there will be mutual respect at the convention. We want to make sure that we take every step we can to make sure that happens.'..."

Any convention "mayhem" will seem mild compared to the next

fours years if another big government stooge is elected in November.

Look to Europe for a preview of coming attractions.

HELLO!! Guys,Ladies,HELLO!!

These articals are nothing more than pro spin doctors at work.
How many times since this all began have you seen some eye grabbing headline that made you instantly say WTH as you were clicking to open it then actually read the thing and it made no sence to what is really fact?
Just saying...

Sounds like media spin

I am sure that the campaign is well aware that while the RP supporters are fervent in our cause, it was others who caused the problems in the conventions.

Everyone looks for an excuse to say the good doctor is out. Let them think what they will.

RON PAUL 2012.

What if ...

Someone's life could have been threatened. Wouldn't be the 1st time, I'm sure.

Statement is out of nowhere all of a sudden. And why?

I don't see any rules broken on our side.

Just saying.

Don't Be Fooled..."Out of Context" Scheme at Play Here

Don't Link the comments Jesse Benton is quoted as saying in this article to the message Ron Paul sent to us supporters. The author is cleverly using comments (out of context) made by Jesse Benton (in response to who knows what) and placing them after his own statements to mislead readers into an inaccurate conclusion. It's a classic case of "taking it out of context". The media want us to speculate upon their misinformation. They want us to implode. Don't do it, you're smarter than that. Don't be fooled, and don't vote the posting down. It's not the best use of the DP to do so. Vote up so others can learn from it. Remember, the DP is where we come to be aware. Daily Paulers need to read the comments/responses to this posting so they correctly understand what garbage this article is, and remember to read any article with the same keen eye to trickery. Think of it as good practice, because it will continue to occur.

Surely the campaign wants to make "peace" with the GOP as the out of context quotes suggest, but that doesn't mean a change in our strategy has changed our end game - to win the nomination, to impact the platform, and to shape the GOP.

We can't continue to win delegates with the opposition on the offensive. Jesse Benton and Ron Paul have stated their desire to remain respectful (to appease the party and calm their senses).

Those of us who have become delegates (or have been nominated) to the national convention know we can't be elected without some support from the opposition, as well. We are still a minority, and we cannot be perceived as threatening or our strategy will not work. If we are, the opposition's offense bubbles up, putting us on the defensive (making us seem disrespectful). You see friends, we have changed our game. We are now on the offensive. We control the plays. That is the message.

The way I see it

I think Jesse Benton is sending the wrong message. By saying this, he is suggesting all the accusations from the media that the Paul supporters are in some way acting in a confrontational manner are true. In my experience, you have to treat the other side exactly the same way they treat you. If they shove you, well then you better shove them back if you want some respect. If you let them piss on, s*** on, spit on, step on and F*** with you and you don't react, better yet, if you treat them with respect, they will exploit your idleness and do whatever it takes to make sure their side wins while they stomp your side into the ground. We have to continue to get in their faces and NOT back down! I'm not saying lets have a royal rumble but if we want respect, backing off will get you nothing but laughed at. I know, the Ron Paul supporters will not be bullied. I don't really know what to make of this messages about respect from Benton. Maybe they know it's going to get nasty and they are getting this message out ahead of time so they can't be blamed. I don't know. I know this, keep doing what we have been doing in every state and the same thing will happen in Tampa.
Romney side has been caught cheating and using every other dirty trick to try and stop RP, the least we can do is continue to stand up for our candidate because there are more of us than there are of them!

One obvious discrepancy in these caucuses and primaries that is never mentioned in MSM regarding Romney's support. On the first night of the caucus, when he wins the straw poll with something like for example 507,965 to Ron Paul's 90,769. Where are those half a million people who voted for Romney the rest of the process??? People that involved to go out and vote the first night of the caucus would surely stay involved the rest of the way through.
If Ron Paul has 122 supporters showing up the day of the county convention, Mitt Romney should have 800 or more showing up, according to the number of people who voted the first night. Every single one of us should personally know more people voting for Romney, than the people who we know are voting for Ron Paul, if the numbers the main stream media are giving us, are correct.
We know they are not. So when are we going to call Romney's campaign out on this???
KEEP FIGHTING!!

So tired of that fool Jessee

So tired of that fool Jessee Benton.

Decorum?

I'm worried about a government that with the Patriot Act and NDAA is setting us up to patrol us with drones, snatch us in the middle of the night, and even put bullets in the back of our heads without anyone even knowing.

Proper decorum doesn't rank high on my list of worries.

AMEN, AMEN, AND AMEN.

Unbelievable what some people (VERY WELL PAID BY US) see as important!!!

"Truth is an absolute defense to the charge of paranoia."

i just hate to think...

that the campaign actually made this announcement because of some bad PR. Who was violent? not us. Who constantly breaks the rules? Not us. And what about Romney's boy being boo'd off the stage? total media hit-job.

take to the air Benton, and fill the people in on the actual facts and tactics used by the opposition! THE GOP WILL TREAT US LIKE SH!T and try to make us mad, so their corporate pundits can make us look bad. I hope Dr. Paul isnt just worried about the bad press that is sure to come. If so, we might as well give up on the delegates (unless we plan on voting Romney on the first ballot).

I have very little reason to

I have very little reason to think Doug Wead, Benton, or Paul would lie to us about this. I have every reason to believe Politico and most every other news source would lie to us about this. They want Paul OUT. Any minor change in strategy they want to make into a massive alteration, with deep and troubling implications for our hopes and expectations. They know we are the sail that keeps this ship on course. If they can take the wind out of us, then Paul is truly OUT.

I'd say this is mostly bogus, people. It's better not to get our feathers in a ruffle over it, and focus our attention and ire less on the weaknesses of our own people and more on the true target. Respectfully, of course. ;)

Listen to the Doctor!

"we’ll lose more than we gain if we go and we’re disrespectful. Respect and decorum are very important to Dr. Paul."

This is so true. 'Respect and decorum' does not mean groveling or toeing the line. It means observing the civilized norms of dealing with others. It means not booing people, using violence, hurling insults. It means dressing to the occasion, shaking hands, making our points and casting our votes without timidity, looking our opponents straight in the eye and leaving having done our best. It does NOT mean unifying behind Romney; it means refusing to do so with the simple respect for the opinions of others that we deserve ourselves, whether we get it or not.

If winning is a possibility this is the only way it can be done. Mayhem is a guaranteed loss and makes it easy top dismiss our movement.

Divided we fall

If I wanted divide the ranks of this revolution, this is exactly the kind of article I would write.
It is a very clear attempt to create division and to call into question one of it's primary leaders.
Don't stumble over this one. And be prepared for even more clever tricks in the future.

That article sucks!

I did not even bother to read through the whole thing. I read just enough to see that it is more BS "old media".

Are you people aware that the first two paragrapshs are

CONCLUSIONS of the author of the article?

These are not the words or thoughts of Ron Paul or the Ron Paul campaign.

Read the NEXT two paragraphs for the actual statements.

DON'T confuse the statments of the reporter who draws ridiculous conclusions, with the statements of the campaign.

Walking the (Party) Plank

I hope they're respectful and at least pull the knife out of his back. Why are we concerned about being respected by psychopaths again? Maybe neo-Rand will save us in four years... What a crock.

I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: "O Lord make my enemies ridiculous." And God granted it.

An idea whose time has come

An idea whose time has come cannot be stopped by any army or any government.

But let it not be said that we did nothing. Let not those who love the power of the welfare/warfare state label the dissenters of authoritarianism as unpatriotic or uncaring. Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security. Understanding the magnificent rewards of a free society makes us unbashful in its promotion, fully realizing that maximum wealth is created and the greatest chance for peace comes from a society respectful of individual liberty.

Wise Move Strategically But Public Relations Disaster

This new change of tactics by the Ron Paul campaign is a wise move strategically because it will use scarce resources where they will be most effective. But by announcing the change, it is a public relations and motivational disaster. They should have just quietly changed tactics and not have announced it with an admission that they didn't have enough funds to continue campaigning in the primary states. You can't show your opposition this sign of weakness and expect them not to use it against you and exploit it. Sad to see.

Jesse Benton, don't you EVER

Jesse Benton, don't you EVER call RP supporters disrespectful. They are trying to save what we have left of our liberties through a corrupt process. The government steals the fruits of my labor, they devalue the money in my pocket by allowing the FED to go unchecked, they start countless unnecessary wars, and they pad their own pockets while telling me what I can and can't do with my life. Then some jackass establishment politician gets to the mic and tells me I need to support Romney, because they know that there is money and power to be gotten by doing this. Now Jesse wants us to be respectful as these meetings proceed outside of the rules? People are getting punched and cheated and lied to, and you want them to be respectful? Get out in the trenches, sir.

This is why I stopped giving

This is why I stopped giving to the campaign. Jessee Benton is a moron.

That's precisely correct.

That's precisely correct. That's NOT helpful.

this thing isn't over yet

And it is going to get a lot "uglier" before it is.
That is why I'm sitting it out, I got a taste of it
back in 2008 and that was enough... if I was in the
fight this time believe me it would be UGGGGGGG LEE
I'm just sitting back and laughing, don't be rude?
Yeah right.

Title of this post and content of the article completely FALSE.

Voting down this garbage.

why go to tampa...

if not to cause some trouble for the GOP. we all know that the Party will not compromise on anything we care about, and any promises made by Mittens or his staff are absolutely useless. the delegate strategy has been useful for the cause of extending the campaign (and the message- which RP seems to want to do no longer). but if there is no "disruption" of the Rominee coronation, are we just spectating?

im just frustrated by the lack of effort in California and Texas. perhaps ads, campaign speeches, and interviews with local media wont gain many votes at this point- but stating an end to campaigning will LOSE VOTES.

What a MESS. Thanks

What a MESS. Thanks Jesse!

Still love RP, but Benton has not helped our cause.

Do not blame Jesse

Blame Politico for twisting the facts. I'll even bet it was the Politico politico who misused the word "mayhem."
