Why Ron Paul would be saddened if he were a DP reader.
Submitted by zackmario on Wed, 01/09/2008 - 02:14Consider how we got to where we are
1.) Freedom, Prosperity and Peace is the goal
2.) He's fought for these for most of his lifetime
3.) He had the courage to run for President, and be ridiculed by all the other candidates, the MSM and a large % of his country
4.) He took every punch on the chin, then turned the other cheek and kept on going.
5.) He's ignited passion in the heart of the electorate like no one in recent history.
6.) We're starting to realize that the majority of the country doesnt yet get it
Now face the following facts,
1) Ron is not going to win - republican or independent (unless the dollar drops to 15% of its value perhaps)
2.) He's not going to run again
3.) He's probably the last of his kind - an honest and educated politician with an amazing message
Finally ask your self this.
1.) Are Freedom, Prosperity and Peace not why you joined the fight?
2.) Are these causes worth giving up on just because Ron will not win?
3.) If not, isnt the only choice to redouble our resolve and effort and fight a good, hard, clean fight all the way to the finish
4.) And most importantly - dont you realize that the worst outcome here on out would be to loose everything we have gained and stood for through this fight.
Friends - Take the bigger picture in mind. We will fight this fight to make a point. We will stand with Ron all the way to the end to show that he and we have made a difference. A difference in how a campaign can touch the hearts and minds of millions of americans and cure the apathy towards politics for so many more.
Freedom, Prosperity and Peace are worth it
Ron Paul has demonstrated that to us, every single day of this campaign. That will be his legacy. What will be yours?

The man has been doing this
... for decades. How would that look to spend all this time touting Dr. Paul's consistent and relentless pursuit of Constitutional government, only to give up when things got tough? I'm sure Dr. Paul was often discouraged after being the lone opposition on so many important issues throughout his career as a congressman. True freedom is difficult to retain, but it's nearly impossible to attain outright by slaves (sans outside forces/help).... Look at history people. If we continue to lose our civil liberties at this pace, our next "president" might be our last. We all knew things were bad but think about the reality of it for a second. It's been proven consistently that we do not have fair elections in this country -- we can't elect anyone to office or for nomination who we think is best qualified. Which means that we really don't elect the leaders in this country. With our grassroots support and the fact we raised more money than any other GOP campaign in the 4th qtr, despite one of the weakest GOP fields I can remember, and despite the # of Ind voters in NH ... and the Leno bump ... and we actually did WORSE than Iowa? I'm sorry, but that's not possible.
People, it's not the campaign's fault, it's not our fault, and it's certainly not Dr. Paul's fault.
Other's have said it before, they will never let us elect someone like Ron Paul because he threatens their entire power structure. We can continue as long as we want and push for a 3rd party run w/ kucinich as a running mate or someone to steal support from both parties. Or we can keep the ron paul network together and use it to carry the message forward: running for office, talking to others' and put us back on our intended course over time.
But I wouldn't believe this garbage about the racist newsletters. The story was told before that 1 guy was responsible for the remarks and when Paul saw them he was dismissed. This is more trumped up crap that fortuitously (for them) came up on the eve of NH. This stuff is always easily disputed, but as usual, the apologies and retractions will come too late. Let us not forget that during the PBS debate Dr. Paul highlighted, imo, one of the greatest assaults on personal liberty and that's the war on drugs, and as Dr. Paul pointed out: blacks are being treated more unfairly than the other races with similar offenses.
Those who are frustrated, I agree with you... But I don't agree with pointing fingers at the campaign. You could glitz-up the campaign all you want but the powers-that-be have been running this country probably since Wilson was in office, and they may elect someone they like and we like (although I don't know why we would), but never someone who is for us and against them. Listen to George Carlin on this one. But just remember that as we lose are freedom every day, there is nowhere else to go. As Reagan once said, this is the last, best hope for freedom on earth.

kudos
on the post - we need the long haul approach as a movement. Let's make the biggest impact we can now and then we move forward as Constitutionalists - I really wish either Ron Paul was younger or I was older back in '88...
instead of getting discouraged, look at the numbers
Look at the numbers
http://edition.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state...
New Hampshire appears to be a DEMOCRATIC state more than anything so realize that Ron Paul is still a contender.
Everybody wants to paint NH as an Independent or Republican state and it is NOT....just look at the number of Democratic votes cast versus Republican.
Perhaps the campaign didn't spend the entire fortune in NH but that doesn't mean his advisers failed him or us. Ron Paul's campaign knows where to spend the time and money.
McCain may have won NH but he is BROKE...in fact he is working off of borrowed money. THAT'S RIGHT. He took out a huge loan just to "work" NH. He will run out of funds and fade away fast as will Huckster and Ghouliani.
HANG IN THERE PEOPLE THIS IS JUST ROUND TWO....it means nothing because we have the money and the staying power to carry on and the message will be heard by more voters once the number of candidates gets dwindled down! It happens the same way every four years....an early loss means nothing.
Let the Dems talk about the war - It is not a Republican issue
Outside the RP forums, RP supporters are agreeing with me that RP should focus mostly on civil liberties at home and economics, not the war.
The opponents know how to draw him into talking about the war and they smirk because they know that even guys like me AGREE WITH THEM on the war in Iraq.
Most anti-war Americans are voting for Hillary or Obama. No argument about Hillary voting for the war will sway them on that. Never. It will not happen. So the vast majority of anti-war Americans is voting for Hillary or Obama come Hell or highwater.
Republican males are mostly not into being peaceniks.
What got me behind Ron Paul is that I would rather fight Hillary syle feminists than "Islamofacists".
The guys that hounded Sean Hannity were obviously not peaceniks either.
The way to win the pro-war crowd is to convince them that their real enemy is John McCain, not Osama Bin Laden.
John McCain consistently takes their civil liberties away in the Senate.
Make them think that they would like to be in a jet having a dogfight with John McCain in another jet with civil liberties at stake.
If you just say "Osama would not fight us if we didn't occupy his land"...you are toast.
Republican males need an enemy to fight.
Give them an enemy instead of telling them to be pacifists.
Why hasn't RP ever shown that he would go to war in certain circumstances?
Do you realize
that one of the biggest issues we have is that we have no real measure of how we are doing (until after a state votes).
We are not able to set our own expectations correctly and then it hurts big time when we miss our expectations. Huck said even 4'th in NH would be fine, came in 3'rd, gave a happy speech, and moved on.
Just yesterday we read that Paul was polling 14%. He got half that!!!
Were the numbers wrong (like Obama/Clinton). Or did half the RP supporters get chicken feet?
there's only one poll that counts
It is an old political bromide but it is so true! The only poll that counts is on election day . . . and THAT ONE doesn't count always when the outcome depends on black-box, unverifiable voting devices.
There was only one poll showing Dr. Paul at 14%. The others ranged from 4% to 11%. The average was around 9%. These polls count what they call "likely voters," and because of the small sample size, they tend to have fairly large margins of error. So 14% could be anywhere from 10% to 18% in reality.
The votes for Dr. Paul seem to have been diluted by an unusually high number of independents voting in the GOP side for McCain. Until a few weeks ago, some of those independents might have been leaning to Dr. Paul. Many of them are people without much in-depth understanding of politics or familiarity with issues. They are often just swept along with the prevailing emotional trends.
To understand the McCain support, you have to look at McCain with their eyes, not with ours. They see McCain as a "straight talker" as opposed to Romney the slick & negative politician. The big newspapers in New Hampshire still have a lot of political influence, unlike in most of the USA where newspapers aren't read anymore---and those papers, especially the Union Leader (traditionally the Republican flagship) went all out for McCain.
The controlled news out of Iraq is bringing the message that "the surge is working." That is what the average citizen now believes, and that worked in McCain's favor. See the comment on this post about how "Republican males want to fight wars" or something to that effect. (It's the chickenhawk syndrome--for every John McCain who actually got himself shot at, there's a dozen Karl Roves and Dick Cheneys who think it's really cool, but have no intention of enlisting themselves.)
Mainly, McCain projects "authenticity." And the fact is, on good days, he does make an excellent impression. His speech tonight was a masterpiece of simple eloquence---compared to Obama's bombast, Hillary's egotism, Romney's off-key ranting. McCain talked not about himself or his election victory as much as about America and the importance of serving and protecting it.
I don't support McCain at all. I'm just trying to see him as a not-too-well-informed independent voter might see him. That way, I understand his appeal.
Well, getting back to the polls, another source of inaccuracy is the fact that a certain percentage are undecided---and when they do vote, the undecideds often break in one direction, rather than scattering.
In New Hampshire, Dr. Paul and his campaign just couldn't "close the sale."
Tomorrow is another day.

very informative...
thanks for the insights.
We made a lot of progress
I'm proud to support Ron. His advocacy for Freedom has spawned a movement. We can move mountains if we stand strong and united!!
They can call us names but freedom will live on in the heart of America.
Government is supposed to protect our freedom, our property, our privacy, not invade it. Ron Paul 2007

Fighting on with certainty of defeat
is not going to win new votes and is a great way to scare away cameras. Fight on, I agree, but the campaign must show they think they can win.
I won't quit!
