Some Historical Perspective for Ron Paul Activists

Some Historical Perspective for Ron Paul Activists

I've been somewhat surprised by the absolutely hysterical reaction among some RP activists to Ron Paul's announcement that he's shifting resources toward winning more delegates instead of blowing it on straw polls in new primaries. In some of the forums, alleged "supporters" are hurling insults at both Ron and his staffers.

I voted this up.

Thanks for posting this. I have been feeling a little bit discouraged over the past couple of days-- but not because of the campaign announcements. I'm more concerned about the fact that many people are dismissing the goal of continuing the future movement and shaping the party, so casually out of hand. I really hope that it is just temporary emotions flaring up, or trolls trying to derail us. Because if we aren't here for the long term cause of growing the movement, changing party politics, and pushing back against the establishment corruption, then I don't know what we are here for. I love Ron Paul. Of course I want Ron Paul to be elected. But even if we manage to pull off an upset and win the nomination, we would still have the long task of changing the party structure and growing the movement ahead of us.

Ron Paul ran for president for precisely this reason that he wanted to wake the people up and get us involved, and to teach us what liberty is all about. And now, here we are. The movement is as important, if not even more important, than any single election. The establishment hopes that we will be discouraged if Ron Paul does not win. That we will give up and go back to sleep, and fall in line. I don't intend to do that.

I think that Ron Paul would be willing even to sacrifice his own candidacy if it meant protecting or saving the movement. It isn't just about him. And no, it's not just about Rand either. We can elect someone to office, but if we don't work hard to build from the ground up, the establishment can simply take it back over again, as they have done in the past.

Thank you!
