Ron Paul Supporters: Don't Eat Our OwnSubmitted by Scott_Stephens on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 21:26
I received an email from a fellow – and I must add, extremely frustrated and downcast – Ron Paul supporter today in response to an article I posted in the Daily Paul very early this morning, “Ron Paul Classic – He’s the Real Thing” in response to Jesse Benton's press conference. This man’s sense of betrayal and exasperation is currently being expressed by many Ron Paul supporters. I responded the man, Dr. D, by a group email. Many others have read it, and I was asked to post it on the Daily Paul. So, here it is:
Dr. D, I completely understand your frustration. When I listened to the press conference I was incredulous. Beyond stupid? I was at a loss for words to adequately describe the magnitude of the error; how about colossally boneheaded?
I don’t know if you attended the state convention in Sparks. If you did, you can relate to the pressure that everyone experienced. They rightly call it campaigning, for it is a war with many battles, skirmishes and struggles.
After an 8 hour drive from Henderson to Sparks in a car with a family of six, I arrived at the Nugget at 11:30 p.m. I went to bed at 2 a.m., woke up four hours later, showered, shaved and dressed. I checked in at the convention registration table at 8 a.m., ate breakfast, and then entered the convention room at 9 a.m.
By 9:30 a.m. the battle had begun over the guests being separated from the credentialed delegates so only legal votes were counted. Within the next hour, I caught a Romney operative with a fake state delegate badge dressed in a Ron Paul T-shirt handing out fake Ron Paul delegate slates. I relayed a copy I had confiscated to Wiselet Rouzard and my daughter, Rachel, who went to the mike and alerted the convention, while I apprehended the culprit, took his material and delivered it to the convention chair, and the Romney operative was escorted out of the room by several people including the Sergeant at Arms.
As the day wore on, I, as well as many others, stood in long lines, endured verbal abuse and engaged in numerous debates with the opposition until the meeting was recessed just minutes before midnight.
Everyone in the room, friend and foe, was exhausted – physically and mentally. The people in the room running the meeting were having trouble keeping their thoughts together and communicating. They were losing control and making incoherent statements. It was not because they were stupid; it was because they were exhausted.
Although we were exhausted, my daughters and I ate a late night meal at a café inside the Nugget, unwinding in conversations with other Ron Paul delegates as well as some friends (yes, friends) who were Romney delegates. We got to bed at 3 a.m.
I woke up less than three hours later, at 5:50 a.m., went through the same routine as the day before; entering the convention room before 9 a.m. and staying until Sine die just after noon.
After the convention, my wife, daughter Rachel and I returned to our rooms, gathered our other children (ages 22, 8, and 6), suitcases, etc., checked out of the hotel, ate lunch, filled our car with gas and drove eight hours, arriving at our home at 11:20 p.m.
To say we were burnt toast the next day is a major understatement.
Having said all of this, I want to point out to you that Ron Paul and his wife Carol, accompanied by Jesse Benton, and John Tate, have been operating at just such a torrid pace for several months now. Dr. Paul has been traveling back and forth across the country, speaking to packed out audiences in venues from the hundreds to several thousand daily; and some days in multiple cities and venues. On top of coordinating all of this, they have to do media interviews.
I’m 49 years old, and have traveled around the country and spoken to audiences numbering in the thousands. Traveling, in and of itself, zaps you. And when you are speaking before large crowds, the energy expended on adrenalin is enormous. How Dr. Paul does this at 76 years of age is mind-boggling. And the pressure of the Republican Party, the press, other local Ron Paul headquarters on Jesse and John on a daily basis is unimaginable. It is easily understandable how such a “colossally boneheaded blunder” occurred.
Piled on to all of this, we have our own “who just don’t get it” immediately eating our own.
This is not the end of the campaign. When a boxer is knocked down, he takes a standing eight count, regroups and comes back swinging. Dr. Paul, Carol, Jesse and John need to take an eight count, get some rest, and regroup. They’re not in this fight alone. And they don’t need people in their corner incessantly yelling at them, “You lost! Idiot, you lost! It’s over! Give it up, loser!” Rather, you rub him down, poor some water on him, give him a drink, and encourage him to get the prize that belongs to him, reminding him how he has worn down his opponent, who has nothing left and several rounds to go. You remind him where he has come from and all of his past victories, and then you tell him, “Your opponent has lots of money, but he is running out of gas. You are the Champion. Continue the rope a dope, Champ. And then – BAM!!!” and then interject in the spirit of Howard Cosell, “Down goes Romney!!! Down goes Romney!!!”
Even though they may be exhausted, and need to hang on and shake the cobwebs out, there are several rounds left in this fight. Believe me! the true grassroots fighters realize what is happening and will pick up the slack in state conventions. The unquenchable fire of liberty burning within, they have sworn on the altar of Almighty God eternal vigilance against the forces of tyranny. They’ve invested too much to just give up now. They understand the delegate process, and RNC rule 38. Romney is impotent to stop the grassroots. The media has given their best shot and cannot stop the grassroots. Dr. Paul will not stop the grassroots.
Rather than criticize Dr. Paul, Jesse and John, we have people like the Bunce brothers (Carl and Richard) here in Henderson, NV who are battle-tested, hardened and wise to the enemy’s dirty tricks and ploys. Having been through it in NV 2008, they prepared and fine-tuned us for our resounding victory in NV 2012. They will alert and educate other Ron Paul local headquarters in the states preparing for upcoming conventions and national delegate nominations. Through the leadership and guidance of the Bunce brothers’ in conjunction with the diehard grassroots Ron Paul coalitions, the Ron Paul liberty lovers have taken over 2/3 control of the Clark County executive board and leadership, as well as over 60% of the Nevada State Republican Central Committee.
Thank God, the patriots at Lexington and Concord, facing seemingly insurmountable odds and setbacks didn’t fold. Dr. D, we are winning! Good God! We have a full house. Are you ready to fold, because they have a pair of deuces?
In the Bible, God gave instructions for war. In them were included this command:
“Then the officers shall add, “Is any man afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his brothers will not become disheartened too.” (Deuteronomy 20:8)
We are leaving the bondage of Egypt. If you are resigned to defeat, you may stay on the sidelines in the wilderness and die. I – I’m going to the Promised Land. And there will even be battles when we reach the Promised Land. If you want to come with me, I will stand arm in arm with you in battle. However, if you are resigned to defeat and want to stay in the wilderness, please be quiet so as not to discourage us and thereby encourage our enemies.
We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed — always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. (Second Corinthians 4:8; 2:14)
The harder the battle, the sweeter the victory.
