☛ Do you have balls big enough to stand up for Liberty on ALL fronts? Even Ron Paul voted against the Adam Walsh Act!Submitted by sovereignjanice on Sat, 05/19/2012 - 02:42
If you want one good reason to read this thread, I have one: Ron Paul voted AGAINST the Adam Walsh Act while Santorum voted for it.
Standing up for Freedom is easy for us Ron Paul supporters, but even St. Peter denied Jesus 3 times when the chips where down. What about those that harm others? Do we stick to our values or do we fold?
I recently had a conversation with a Paul supporter that informed me of a lot of things I was unaware of. Here I thought I had finally woken up to the MSM lies and deception, but this conversation was very enlightening. The conversation was about s3x offenders.
This may be the biggest taboo when advocating freedom. We see monsters like Josef Fritzl and even we liberty lovers develop tunnel vision. I would like to offer some myths and facts that were discussed between me and my friend, not to necessarily advocate a certain position, but rather share some info that the media, as it does with us, collectively distorts.
MYTH: Known registered s3x offenders pose a great risk to society therefore we need harsh laws.
FACT: 95% of new s3x offenses are committed by someone who is not currently on a s3x offender registry.(Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2006)
MYTH: Strangers make up the majority of offenders who harm children (“Stranger Danger”).
FACT: In as many as 93% of child s3xual abuse cases, the child knows the person who commits the abuse. As many as 47% are immediate family members or extended family. Only 7% are strangers.(Dru Sjodin National S3x Offender Public Website, US Department of Justice)
MYTH: Registered s3x offenders have a high recidivism (re-offense) rate.
FACT: Registered s3x offenders have the lowest recidivism rates when compared to other felonies such as domestic violence, drug offenses, battery, theft, DUI, robbery, and assault. The ONLY crime with a lower recidivism rate is murder.(Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2006)
MYTH: Community notification is necessary to protect society.
FACT: Community notification of s3x offenders through public Internet registries gives the community a "false sense of security." Since non-registered individuals commit around ninety-five percent of all s3x offenses, registration requirements have only the POTENTIAL to prevent only a very small fraction of future s3x offenses. Community notification allows any individual, corporation, or organization access to s3x offender registration information - making employment opportunities virtually non-existent. (Jill S. Levenson, Ph.D., LCSW Assistant Professor of Human Services Lynn University)
MYTH: Viewing Child p0rnography is a precursor to eventual hands-on crimes.
FACT: Studies show that consuming child p0rnography alone is not a risk factor for committing hands on sex offense. The majority of those investigated had no previous convictions for hands-on s3x offenses nor did they show a higher rate of recidivism in general. (Department of Justice, Psychiatric/Psychological Service, Canton of Zurich, Feldstrasse 42, 8004 Zurich, Switzerland)
These are just very few of the myths perpetrated by the government and media to make us believe we need to pour more money into laws and law enforcement that facts and figures show does NOT make us safer.
In IL alone, concerning the unconstitutional Adam Walsh Act, the state approved $20,000,000 in new funding to comply with the federal law which research proves does nothing to make us safer. Political pressure from the uninformed public has led to bigger government that does not result in keeping our kids safe. While things like AMBER Alert work, such a program could be a lot more effective if it could take advantage of the funds wasted elsewhere.
When I asked what can I do to make sure my kids are safe if these laws aren't effective, he said to research ilvoices.com or texasvoices.org/ I thought I should include those for the people who realize that WE need to be parents, not the government.
