VIDEO: Georgia GOP State Convention cancels delegate interviews at the last minute: 5/18/12

The video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fv_dkzMG5c

The Georgia GOP requested that anyone wanting to be an At-Large delegate to the Republican National Convention needed to submit to the state convention nominating committee a letter of intent and political resume post-marked by May 8, 2012

On May 14, 2012, the Georgia GOP emailed out a letter asking those who had submitted a political resume to be present and available to interview with the nominating committee at the Columbus (GA) Civic Center on Friday May 18, 2012 between 9am and 10am or between 12noon and 4pm.

On Friday, May 18th, at 6:30am, the Georgia GOP emailed out a letter stating that due to the large number of applicants (200+), they had decided to cancel the interviews. They also posted signs at the Columbus Civic Center announcing this last minute decision to cancel all interviews.

This video shows Sue Everheart (Georgia GOP chairwoman) and Frank Strickland (nominating committee chairman) speaking to a group of At-Large delegate applicants at 9am Friday morning (May 18, 2012).

No interviews were ever conducted.

Here is my email from May 14th:

Fellow Republicans,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Delegate or Alternate to the 2012 Republican National Convention. Your desire and willingness to serve our Party are driving forces behind all that we have accomplished, and all that we will continue to achieve in the future.

As an At-Large Delegate/Alternate applicant, you must now appear in person before the GAGOP Nominating Committee at the State Convention on Friday, May 18th. The Committee Interviews will be held in Meeting Room 3 of the Columbus Civic Center, and will take place from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM, and again from 12:00 PM-4:00PM. You may appear before the Committee at a time of your choosing, but please make plans to ensure that you are able to meet with the Nominating Committee on Friday by 4:00PM. Only those that submitted applications by May 8th will be allowed to interview. No late applicants will be considered.

All my best,

Sue P. Everhart, Chairman

Just got this from Sue:
At-Large Delegate/Alternate Applicant,

Thank you again for your interest in representing Georgia as an At-Large Delegate or Alternate to the 2012 Republican National Convention. However, due to the large number of applicants this year, the Nominating Committee will not be conducting individual interviews. The Committee will review each individual resume and letter of intent in lieu of interviews, *and thus you will not need to appear before the Nominating Committee on Friday*.

Thank you again for your interest in serving our Party, and I look forward to seeing you in Columbus this weekend!

All my best,

Sue P. Everhart, Chairman
