☛ Step by Step guide on how to become a Delegate in ARKANSAS. There still may be vacancies to become a delegate. Find out here

There may still be vacancies for you to become a delegate for the Arkansas Republican Convention on June 9th. I've been helping people in my home state of Illinois: http://www.dailypaul.com/234993/attention-illinois-residents... and would like to do the same in other states, especially those that I heard the campaign hasn't done much in. Here's a simple to-do list on how you can become a delegate or alternate delegate if there are slots still available to do so.

The first step is to call your county chairman, but most people stop there because they don't know where to get that information or what to ask, so we'll start there:

1) Find the phone number of your county chairman by going here: http://www.arkansasgop.org/index.cfm?p=CountyMap Click on the county you live in. After you click your county, the phone number of the county chairman (the number you need to call) will appear underneath that map

2) When you call you'll want to ask the person on the other line if you could speak to someone regarding a question you have concerning the state convention in June. The person may need to transfer you to some one else, but when you get to someone who can help you, say "I live in the xxxx county and was wondering if there are any vacancies available to become a delegate or alternate delegate for the convention in June." They will either answer with yes, no, or only alternates.

3) If they say yes or only alternates, ask what the person needs from you in order to do to become one.

4) Then do the obvious, give them what they need and ask ALL questions you want answered. Here are a few suggested questions to ask

4a) Ask: What do I need to bring with me to the convention to show that I am a delegate?

4b) Ask: What's the best way to contact you if I think of any questions or have an issue in the future.

4c) Ask: What is the address of the convention and what time should I get there.

4d) Ask: Is there a fee, what is the fee and how can I pay?

That's it. If you are still able to become a delegate that's how you do it. They'll have the information you need and those are the questions you should ask. Honestly, it's really not any more complicated than that.

Please post any questions and/or success stories if you are able to become a delegate in the comment section below.

Deadline past

The deadline for filing for delegate to the national convention was May 17. It sounded like we had all the people we needed already filed. From what I hear, we also have a lot of delegates from each county going to the special district conventions. Thanks for the heads up.

The deadline

The deadline to become a national delegate is today.

I guess I shouldn't post something until I've verified it. For some reason May 17 was just in my head.

Committeeman first

I don't know if Arkansas is any more complicated than other states since this was my first year involved-but it sure seemed overly difficult to become a delegate, even to the district conventions.

In order to be a special delegate to the June 9th district conventions across Arkansas, a person had to have signed up to be committeeman/woman by, I believe, March 1st. There was a $40 fee associated with becoming committeeman.

IF you made the deadline to be a committeeman, then you could sign up as special delegate for the district conventions on June 9th.

In my county (Benton) we filled all 51 slots to be delegates, apparently. A lot of the people that had signed up, were not present at the GOP meeting where we selected the 51. We barely filled the spots though.

I can only speak for Benton County, but if you didn't sign up to be a committeeman, you can not advance to special delegate for the county conventions on June 9th.

That may be true, but I

That may be true, but I suggest calling to make sure. Someone may have dropped out or the deadline may have been extended. That happened in IL.

And what I said may be

And what I said may be specific to Benton County, so I agree that people should call. There may also be people that did meet the deadline to become committeeman that can still get special delegate spots. We closed our county meeting for our 51 special delegates, but other counties may not have yet.

Some of it is. It only cost

Some of it is. It only cost $25. to become on the committee here in Faulkner. They make you commit to a candidate when you file, and the key is 15%. If any candidate gets 15%, he gets delegates. Ron did not get that last time so Huck got them all.
BTW, tomorrow is the voting, and we will find out..

fingers crossed

very good point

Please contact Monica the Arkansas Ron Paul State Coordinator...

Monica is coordinating this effort.

Also, there is an important state filing deadline for Arkansas State Delegate applicants coming up in the next day or so, therefore please contact Monica right away if interested.

We do have a plan in place and it's important that we focus our votes, so yes, please contact Monica.
