Help Getting to National Convention! From CD 34 in Texas

Okay, guys so as far as I know I am the only delegate in my CD (CD 34 in Texas) that is for Ron Paul and is even considering going to the national convention...again I could be wrong...but I just received an email from my country chair asking if I was interested in going to the national convention and HECK YES I am, but I just graduated from school and don't have the $4,000 that it would cost...I'm wondering if I should pass it up or is there a way other people went about getting funding help??? Or a way to find other Ron Paul supporters in my CD that can afford to go so that way I can make sure to vote for them??? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Delegate Funds

$4000?!

There's always a way to pay less for everything. Try to organize with the other TX delegates and split the hotel cost. Is it a requirement to stay at the convention hotel?. Think Ramen and pbj. Local biz will also give discounts to delegates.

If you fly, last minute tickets are cheaper:

Think about using this as a resource too: http://www.gofundme.com/

Hope this helps.

I do not know this for a fact...

... but I suspect that one of the reasons that the campaign stopped allocating money to primaries is that it is conserving money to get our delegates to Tampa. (If I am wrong, it would probably be because the campaign would not legally be able to spend its money to directly pay delegate expenses; does anyone know the state of the law on this issue?)

Even if the campaign cannot, or will not, help with these expenses, the broader Liberty community will, so please, jewels2011, respond positively to the email; doing so will keep your options open. Thank you!

If you choose to fundraise, be sure to follow the rules

Here's a publication from the Federal Election Commission that goes over all the rules pertaining to serving as a Delegate on the local, state and national levels. If you have any questions, you can call the FEC at (800) 424-9530 or (202) 694-1100. FEC Rules for National Convention Delegates

Important excerpts:

Who is Prohibited From Contributing to a Delegate?
Individual delegates may not accept any contributions from sources prohibited from making contributions in connection with federal elections. 11 CFR 110.14(c)(2). These sources include:

• Corporations (including banks and nonprofit corporations);
• Labor organizations;
• Foreign nationals or businesses (except "green card" holders--those admitted to the United States for permanent residence); and
• Federal government contractors (such as partnerships and sole proprietors with federal contracts). 11 CFR 110.20; 114.2; 115.2, 115.4 and 115.5.

[...]

Do these Rules Apply if I'm Only Raising Money to Pay for Travel to the Convention?
Yes. Travel and subsistence expenses related to the delegate selection process and the national nominating convention are considered "expenditures." 11 CFR 110.14(e). Thus, a delegate may not use prohibited funds to pay for travel to attend the national convention and related food and lodging expenses. Advisory Opinions (AOs) 2000-38 and 1980-64.

Have you filled out the application?

Here is the application you need to fill out and fax or mail to the RNC by May 31st in order to have a better chance of being elected to go to Tampa.

Not yet...I do have one I was just waiting to see if I was even going to go through with it or not but thanks for the link

You dont have to fill out

You dont have to fill out that application...you can present yourself to the nominations committee at the State Convention. Prepare a short, clear, concise resume. Also prepare a short 2 to 3 minuite speech discussing the various issues that most concern you and how important it is to have a republican as POTUS.

Truth before all else.....it is what will allow us to emerge with dignity and honor.

Also, can I do the

Also, can I do the application and prepare the speech or is that overkill/not allowed?

For the resume, I'm assuming

For the resume, I'm assuming you need some political activity to talk about...most everything I've done has been solely for Ron Paul, sign waves, putting up signs, handing out brochures, all for Ron Paul...I don't know how well that would go over because other than that I haven't been involved with the Republican party in the past. I do have an awesome college resume with all my work experience, not sure if that's relevant though lol.

Ronvoy will get anyone to the convention in Tampa

I believe it's free for delegates. Hotel rooms can be shared. Check out couchsurfing.com for free places to stay.

If you get elected

If you get elected and need help I'm sure you'll get 400 people on this site alone to chip in $10 to get you to Tampa.

Get the delegate spot if possible unless there are other known Paul supporters trying for it. You don't have to pay anything up front. Worst case is you end up not going and an alternate fills in. Best case you find someone to share expenses or get a free ride and a place to sleep. Just don't pass it up because you're worried about the cost right now.

My county chair told me there

My county chair told me there is an initial fee and that I have to have my credit card ready at the state convention to pay it if I end up being selected...I'm not sure how much it is...I emailed her to find out the initial amount but still waiting for a response.

I'm just guessing.

I wouldn't think it would be more than a couple hundred, but I don't really know. Let us know when you find out.

I actually just heard back

I actually just heard back from my county chair but apparently no one knows the answer to this...somehow I'm not shocked lol...if I ever find out the real answer I'll be sure to let you know but it looks like it won't be until they are asking me for my credit card at the convention

$4,000?

For real? That sure does seem steep. If you car pool and spend 3 or 4 days there it will cost $4,000?

Yeah, it sounds ridiculous

Yeah, it sounds ridiculous but this is what I was quoted...I don't know any of the details on what all of that money is going to pay for...this will be my first state convention and if I go first national convention so still learning

The RNC itself claims it will cost approximately $2000

for all expenses related to the convention on the application. I am not sure if we are allowed to opt for other accommodations or not. We should set up a group rate air travel plan with other delegates if possible. Driving is out of the question.

The Problem is they keep the States at different

hotels... So if you are at $500 per night hotel it adds up.

Sounds totalitarian

Can't someone just opt to eat/sleep elsewhere?
