Prediction: Ron Paul Will Endorse Romney…Kind ofSubmitted by LibertyChat on Wed, 05/23/2012 - 11:01
This prediction is based on Ron Paul not winning the nomination. There’s still the chance that he pulls off an upset at the convention.
When it comes to endorsements, Ron Paul occasionally gives questionable ones. Lamar Smith, Michael McCaul, Ted Cruz to name a few. So why would an endorsement for Romney be off the table?
Ron Paul didn’t need to give John McCain his endorsement in 2008, because it didn’t mean much to the GOP. So much so that they didn’t even invite Ron Paul to the convention. 2012 is a different story. Ron Paul has a much larger base of supporters, and Governor Romney will be in a tight race with President Obama. You can bet the pressure will be put on Congressman Paul by the establishment to endorse Romney.
Does a Ron Paul endorsement of Romney even matter? Not really. Most Ron Paul supporters will see it as Paul being put under immense pressure, and only doing it to protect Rand Paul’s future. Don’t expect any true Ron Paul supporter to be voting for Romney, even with a Ron Paul endorsement.
Expect the endorsement to be a toeing of the line. Something like “I believe Romney would be better for this country than Obama”. This will appease the establishment while being able to say to his supporters “I didn’t endorse Romney, I just said he’d be better than Obama”. Very unlikely you’ll see anything in an email that says “I encourage you to vote for Romney”.
