Did you know? Bringing Ron Paul to the masses!

Updated 5:03pm EST
I've been following the DP for just a few months now... I was "woken up" by a co-worker early this year and my apathy was cured. I started posting stuff about Ron Paul on my facebook page as I discovered how deep and fundamental our problems in America are.

The issue I've run into, however, is that most people discount my posts and likely have even unsubscribed from my updates because of preconceived notions of who Ron Paul is and what Ron Paul stands for. Here's a snippet of a message I got in response to these posts:

I remember some of the batshit-crazy stuff that came from him back in the early 90's and I have a hard time reconciling it. I mean back then when I read one of those pamphlet/paper someone gave me, I lumped him with other political crazies like Lyndon LaRouche

The mainstream media has done such a good job of causing people to immediately turn off anything they hear about Ron Paul that I've come to this conclusion: The message we give people has to be concise and impactful. If it's too long, nobody will read it. If it's inconsequential, nobody will care.

I'm going to be starting a once-a-day "Did you know?" post on my facebook page in order to attempt to educate and awaken my friends and family who are still asleep. I need help coming up with these facts. Here are some of my current ideas. Help me out, and post these on your social media of choice as well!

  • Did you know? In 2011, Ron Paul received 67% of all active duty military contributions, compared against 33% for all other candidates in either party COMBINED (including Obama) according to the FEC Year-End Report, Donors By Employer.
  • Did you know? Ron Paul has never voted to raise taxes and never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
  • Did you know? Ron Paul has surpluses in congressional operating budgets each year and returns the unused money back to the government.
  • Did you know? Ron Paul has never voted to raise his own pay. (thanks to Patsfan)
  • Did you know? Ron Paul has never voted for anything that is unconstitutional. (thanks to Patsfan)
  • Did you know? Ron Paul has never voted for an unbalanced budget. (thanks to Patsfan)
  • Did you know? Ron Paul voted against the war in Iraq, where we never found WMDs. (thanks to Patsfan)
  • Did you know? Ron Paul predicted the housing market crash of 2008 way back in 2002. Watch this amazing video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifJG_oFFDK0 (thanks to Patsfan)
  • Did you know? Ron Paul voted against and would appeal the NDAA and the Patriot Act. (thanks to Dan T Man)
  • Did you know? Ron Paul wants to restore our liberty and the constitution. (thanks to Dan T Man)
  • Did you know? "It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked" - Ron Paul (thanks to SeedPlanter)

  • Did you know? "We should have a strong president, strong enough to resist the temptation of taking power the President shouldn't have." - Ron Paul (thanks to SeedPlanter)
  • Did you know? The real inflation rate is around 6%. The money in your bank account has a -6% real interest rate. Yes, you are losing money. (thanks to Lofabred)
  • Did you know? The current two party system only allows for a 'choice' between two options. These options historically are always the two candidates who get the most money from the big corporations. This is not a choice, it's the illusion of a choice. (thanks to Lofabred)
  • Did you know? Starting a company in China is currently easier to do than in the USA. (thanks to Lofabred)
  • Did you know? If you're a taxpayer, your portion of the national debt is about $138,500. (thanks to Lofabred)
  • Did you know? Ron Paul predicted terrorist attacks like 9/11 back in 1998 as a result of bombing Iraq. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzbEWYi_CI8 (thanks to vincebodie)

I'm sure there are lots of great points that will open people's eyes. Help make this list awesome! i'll update the post as comments flow so we have one place for them all.

Fantastic Facts - These will help us win!

Thanks for sharing, it's facts like these (I'd say that first one is very effective!) that can draw in voters, especially even more young voters. Show these to all your friends!!!

Oh, and one thing to add to one of your "did you knows" - I would add how long Ron Paul has been in Congress (voting) to emphasize how amazing it is, so...

Did you know? During his 25 years in Congress, Ron Paul has never voted to raise taxes and never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

People want tidbits of information that really are important, but they don't want to be bogged down with information.

The two most important days in your life are the day you are born...and the day you find out why. -Mark Twain

Sometimes people won't read a post...

...but they'll read pictures. This is what I'm discovering anyway.

They automatically think a picture is going to be funny or say something cute.

SO....I made a lot of pictures to post on Facebook that are informational, sometimes funny, always Ron Paul. :)

Feel free to share any of them. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.392005547484328.99...

I've converted a few family and friends as well, through cheesy art. ha

I share a very similar story, my friend.

I have converted nearly 75% of everyone on my list to Ron Paul supporters. My profile picture, is a Ron Paul logo. All my posts, nothing but Ron Paul or news casts pertaining to concerning issues our country is facing and how it could be avoided and corrected if Ron Paul were elected and people would pay attention and realize what our government is doing to our country and how it's NEVER reported by the media. It's EXTREMELY effective. Especially now that it's down to Romney and Paul and they have read how we're killing it with the delegates and winning so many state conventions. I highly suggest more do this. We all know the media blacks Paul out. This way you can be the media! With a viewer base as large as your friends list. I've actually got a couple of people who have are now doing the same thing. So his exposure has at least tripled. You want to spread a wilfire.. You see those retarded witty pictures with millions of views on everyones walls. Imagine Ron Paul videos with that many views and trending popularly.

Exactly what I'm striving

Exactly what I'm striving for. People need to step back and realize that all the little things they care so much about are inconsequential. Unimportant. Silly, even.

What is important is our future, and ending tyranny. Ron Paul or BUST.

Excellent!

This has been bookmarked!

This has been bookmarked! Keep updating it

keeping it simple

I agree, I think the short concise route is the best. I thought about doing this with FRNs, writing little facts on bills for people to consider. I think it would be helpful if the facts don't actually mention Ron Paul, though. This keeps people from disregarding it at the outset. Plus, I'm more concerned about awakening people to the true state of things rather than convincing them that they should support Ron Paul - that should come naturally if they understand the situation they're in.

The sort of facts I think would be helpful are things like;
--The real inflation rate is 6% (just being conservative here). The money in your bank account has a -6% real interest rate. Yes, you are losing money.
--Parenting tip: for more compliant kids, let them 'choose' between given options only you like. The government does the same with the two party system.
--Job growth needs to come from the private sector. Starting a company in China is currently easier to do than in the USA.
--Are you a taxpayer? Your portion of the national debt is about $138,500.

stuff like that.

Great ideas, and I agree with

Great ideas, and I agree with you on some points, but I think it's important to tie compelling messages to Ron Paul's name in order to turn the tide on his public opinion. Many will blindly push for Romney in office solely because he's not Obama, not because his policies are good (or even well understood!!)

Both strategies are absolutely viable, and both should likely be pursued. I'll add these to the list.

Thanks!

Thanks for the great ideas

Thanks for the great ideas everyone, keep 'em coming!

Did you know Ron Paul voted against and would appeal the NDAA
Ron Paul voted against the patriot act
Ron Paul wants to restore our LIBERTY and CONSTITUTION

Here are some Ron Paul quotes for you

Here are some quotes in case you want to add them to your FB page:

"I heard there's a revolution going on and I'm so thankful you invited me to it." –Ron Paul

"When one gets in bed with the government, one must expect the disease it spreads." –Ron Paul

"Integrity means having to say things that people don't want to hear & especially to say things that the regime doesn't want to hear" –Ron Paul

"I have introduced legislation to keep politicians in Washington from ever raiding the Social Security trust fund again" –Ron Paul

“Freedom Unites People” -Ron Paul

“It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked” --Ron Paul

”We should have a strong president, strong enough to resist the temptation of taking power the President shouldn't have.” -Dr. Ron Paul

"People ought to reflect on the fact that the highest-performing stock market in the world in 2007 belonged to Zimbabwe" –Ron Paul

"True Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security." --Ron Paul

“The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility and out of self interest for himself, his family, and the future of the country to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state.” – Ron Paul

"Each of us must choose what course of action we must take. Education, conventional political action, or even peaceful civil disobedience to bring about necessary changes, but let it not be said that we did nothing. Let not those who love the power of the welfare warfare state label the dissenters of authoritarianism as unpatriotic or uncaring. Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent then it is to conformity, and a blind desire for safety and security. Understanding the magnificent rewards for a free society makes us unbashful in its promotion, fully realizing that maximum wealth is created, and the greatest chance for peace comes from a society respectful of individual liberty." - Congressman Ron Paul

"Why are we more concerned about the borders of Iraq and Syria than our own?" –Ron Paul

"You cannot tax people and businesses to the point of near slavery and expect them to keep producing" –Ron Paul

"One special interest that we should be working for, and that would solve just about all of our problems, and that is our liberty" –Ron Paul

“It is not we non-interventionists who are isolationists. The real isolationists are those who impose sanctions and embargos on countries and peoples across the globe and who choose to use force overseas to promote democracy. A counterproductive approach that actually leads the U.S. to be more resented and more isolated in the world” –Ron Paul

"Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons." ~Ron Paul, Security and Liberty 04/25/2007

” Since the creation of the Federal Reserve, middle and working-class Americans have been victimized by a boom-and-bust monetary policy. In addition, most Americans have suffered a steadily eroding purchasing power because of the Federal Reserve's inflationary policies. This represents a real, if hidden, tax imposed on the American people. From the Great Depression, to the stagflation of the seventies, to the burst of the dotcom bubble last year, every economic downturn suffered by the country over the last 80 years can be traced to Federal Reserve policy. The Fed has followed a consistent policy of flooding the economy with easy money, leading to a misallocation of resources and an artificial "boom" followed by a recession or depression when the Fed-created bubble bursts. In conclusion, Mr. Speaker, I urge my colleagues to stand up for working Americans by putting an end to the manipulation of the money supply which erodes Americans' standard of living, enlarges big government, and enriches well-connected elites, by cosponsoring my legislation to abolish the Federal Reserve.” -Ron Paul – Sept 10, 2002

“The coming dollar crisis is not likely to be “fixed” by politicians who are unwilling to make hard choices, admit mistakes, and spend less money. Demographic trends will place even greater demands on Congress to maintain benefits for millions of older Americans who are dependent on the federal government. Faced with uncomfortable financial realities, Congress will seek to avoid the day of reckoning by the most expedient means available – and the Federal Reserve undoubtedly will accommodate Washington by printing more dollars to pay the bills. The Fed is the enabler for the spending addicts in Congress, who would rather spend new fiat money than face the political consequences of raising taxes or borrowing more abroad. The irony is that many of the Fed’s biggest cheerleaders are the same supposed capitalists who denounced centralized economic planning when practiced by the former Soviet Union. Large banks and Wall Street firms love the Fed’s easy money policy, because they profit at the front end from the resulting loan boom and artificially high equity prices. It’s the little guy who loses when the inflated dollars finally trickle down to him and erode his buying power. Someday Americans will understand that Federal Reserve bankers have no magic ability – and certainly no legal or moral right – to decide how much money should exist and what the cost of borrowing money should be.” --Ron Paul – July 11, 2006

“I believe our founding fathers had it right when they argued for peace and commerce between nations, and against entangling political and military alliances. In other words, non-interventionism. Non-interventionism is not isolationism. Non-intervention simply means America does not interfere militarily, financially, or covertly in the internal affairs of other nations. It does not mean that we isolate ourselves; on the contrary, our founders advocated open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations. It's hypocritical and childish to dismiss certain founding principles simply because a convenient rationale is needed to justify interventionist policies today. The principles enshrined in the Constitution do not change. If anything, today's more complex world cries out for the moral clarity provided by a noninterventionist foreign policy. It is time for Americans to rethink the interventionist foreign policy that is accepted without question in Washington. It is time to understand the obvious harm that results from our being dragged time and time again into intractable and endless Middle East conflicts, whether in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, or Palestine. It is definitely time to ask ourselves whether further American lives and tax dollars should be lost trying to remake the Middle East in our image.” - Dr. Ron Paul, 2007

Great quotes, unfortunately

Great quotes, unfortunately some are too long and just won't get read by those who don't already accept the message they convey.

I've added some of the shorter, more impactful ones to the list.

Done!

Done!

Ron Paul has never voted to

Ron Paul has never voted to raise his own pay.
Never voted for anything that is unconstitutional.
Never voted to increase taxes.
Never voted for an unbalanced budget.
Voted against the war in Iraq, which was based on WMD lies.
Predicted the housing market crash of 2008, back in 2002. (provide tube link)

"Liberty is to the collective body, what health is to every individual body. Without health no pleasure can be tasted by man; without liberty, no happiness can be enjoyed by society."

— Henry St. John

What works for me is this:

I say, "you've heard about the Federal Reserve, that it is not actually a bank, [pause] and you may have heard that it is not a part of the government in any way....[pause] it is a corporation with shares owned by the 10 largest banks in the world including Bank of America, Bank of England and so forth...." [pause]

They say.."I didn't know that"....

I say, "well..would you agree these banks and ruining our country?'
They go, "yes I do".
I go "well---here's the frosting on the cake..and THAT is that the politicians are paid off by these banks and wars are being fought for the balance sheets of these banks....and all the income tax you pay is for the interest on these banks....to pay the federal debt...it's not for roads, streets, and bridges"....

They go, [dead silence] "I didn't know that".

I say, "there is a buy named Ron Paul who wants to fix our economy starting with ending the Fed"....

Seems to work.....they get this deep silence and say they are now interested in THAT.

Great Idea

I usually post some picture or inspirational video. Like you, probably ignored by most of my friends. I did give a friendly warning a while back that my page would be getting political...lol. I, too will do this. Thanks
