OMG, I think I'm Mental!

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders I have ODD. I think I got it from the Internet!

Could this be the first virus that is communicable from computer to human host? I was simply reading some news when I started to learn about this guy named Ron Paul, M.D.. Is it possible that a medical doctor is actually making people sick? I know he cured my apathy but did he give me ODD too?

I think the only shrink I know has it too. Perhaps I need a second opinion. Apparently Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is a condition defined as an ongoing pattern of disobedience, hostile, and defiant behavior. I have all the symptoms. Questioning authority: check. Negativity: check. Defiance: check. Argumentativeness: check. Being easily annoyed: check.

It could be a pandemic as every political event I've attended in the past 10 years is overrun by people suffering the same affliction. The degrees vary. Ron Paul supporters seem to be the most heavily afflicted. Democrats seem to have some resistance to some symptoms like questioning authority; that seems to be a new trend, however, as they were particularly susceptible to that symptom four years ago. Romney's supporters enjoy periods of remission; they are short lived though, just watch their reaction when approached by a Ron Paul supporter carrying a copy of Robert's Rules of Order. That simple act will elicit all their symptoms at once and in their most agitated state.

The DSM-IV is not a joke

People frequently treat the DSM-IV as a big joke, but the mental problems and disorders it describes are very real.

My stepbrother has this disorder; let me describe to you what it really looks like. It is not a matter of him questioning the fundamental assumptions of economic policy, or arguing against the establishment. It was extreme defiance, with extreme hostility. I'm talking situations like my mom asking him to put his shoes away, and he would push her into a wall and scream at her.

He used to steal steak knives from the kitchen and literally attack anyone who asked him to do anything or said anything negative about him. He destroyed furniture and kicked holes in the walls. He attacked his own mother once for mentioning that he got a B- in the Christmas card, and she had to call the police to get help.

I remember being 14 and fully convinced that I would not survive to graduate high school, because my stepdad couldn't bear to send my stepbrother to get real help. Not to mention that he was 14 then, too, and I was desperately afraid of how he would handle puberty and sexuality. I was scared of being raped and killed for looking at him the wrong way.

Once he tried to strangle my little brother (7 at the time) for not giving up the video game console. Another time he backed my mom into a corner with a butcher knife, and I came running out of my room with a baseball bat to save her.

This is a real disorder. It is in the DSM-IV for a damn good reason. If it wasn't, then we would not have been able to find a way to treat him.

Please don't knock something in the DSM-IV without first verifying whether it is real.

Can you get it from not wearing a rubber

and does it cause itching? If so, I may be in trouble.

Very funny

You sure it's not

Are you sure it's not, like ... gas from something you ate? LOL

Get a second opinion.
Then, if they agree ....
get a third.
And keep getting them till the one who says you're fine and dandy.

Argumentativeness for conversation and healthy debate

Being easily annoyed: for keeping you're cool.

And you won't have all the symptoms and therefore be fine.
