ATF to accept public comments prior to outlawing shotguns

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is taking a rare step of allowing public comments prior to issuing a decision on a study that could result in outlawing certain types of shotguns currently available to citizens.

The ATF completed a study regarding the importability of certain shotguns. The basis for a possible ban is based on a loosely defined “Sporting Purpose” test. Using the vague definition almost all pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns could be banned as they are all capable of accepting a magazine, box or tube capable of holding more than 5 rounds. Other characteristics determined to be “military” by the ATF can also be used as a basis for a ban.

Ironically, many shotguns with “military” features are currently being used in shooting competitions held by the USPSA, IDPA and IPSC. The rules could also result in obscure regulations where an individual would be unsure if he is violating them or not.

Additionally, Little Noticed Provision Kills ATF Shotgun Ban Plans

A little noticed provision tucked into a large appropriations bill obviously flew under the radar of the “Brady Bunch” and the “Illegal Mayors.”

The new law effectively kills ATF’s plan to stop tactical/military shotgun imports by way of abusing the “sporting purpose” requirement and their agency rulemaking powers.

The “Fiscal Year 2012 Agriculture, Commerce/Justice/Science (CJS) and Transportation/Housing/Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bills”, also known as the “Mini-Bus”, was passed by Congress, and signed into law by President Obama on November 18, 2011.

The new law reads as follows:

SEC. 541. None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to pay the salaries or expenses of personnel to deny, or fail to act on, an application for the importation of any model of shotgun if–

(1) all other requirements of law with respect to the proposed importation are met; and
(2) no application for the importation of such model of shotgun, in the same configuration, had been denied by the Attorney General prior to January 1, 2011, on the basis that the shotgun was not particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes

Fortunately for INFOWARS this was not a particle done by the staff only a posted link. The staff of InfoWars might want to delve a little further prior to posting info like this.

NEVER trust what ANYONE says people!

Odd that the article is dated

April 18 of 2011 but all the comments are from April 20, 2012 to May 22, 2012. Yearlong delay in posting, yearlong delay in discovery or wrong date(s)?

why is shotgunstudy@atf.gov still active?

Thank you for the good info

The ATF deserved to receive my comments anyway.

I here ya

Just concerned that it makes IW and PP look bad when this stuff if propogated due to a failure to investigate. It took me about 3 minutes to look into it. As I said, Until Otherwise proven incorrect the piece should be PULLED and this string should be REMOVED.

OMG it is going VIRAL

and makes infowars look like freeking idiots. WTF!

A muzzle loading musket

was a "military" weapon in 1776 when the 2 Amendment was debated, written and agreed to. This perspective poses a number of interesting questions...

ATF to hear public coment

Before they violate the constitution of the nation. They want only to murder with impunity. Looks like time to buy a few shotguns. The so called govenrment of the people by the people for the people has changed to govenrment for the ROthschild bank criminals who foist false national debts based upon digitized out of thin air debt then use said debt to justify immoral extored theft called tax. They need not money that is a unlimited digitized assed they use extorted theft called tax as debt slave control. If the debt slave shows resistance off to corporate work prison. Time for a huge world wide debt slave revolt. Problem to many cowering submitting immoral humans going along to get along. My final answer is NO>

I say sell the ones you have

and go purchase from private citizens all incognito like. No ID etc...

Right to bare Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, & Tobacco first.

Ban the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, & Tobacco first.

Ask questions later.

"Speak softly & carry a big stick. ..."

Didn't Buford T. Pusser also use that phrase? Or am I thinking of "Walking Tall (and Carrying a Big Stick)"?

The latter.

Variously reported as something close to "Walking tall & carrying a big stick."

It looks like the stick is attached to a fishing line.

I am not sure. Japanese spectators are amazed.

Me too!

It's okay everyone.

As soon as they ban these types of shotguns, you can go and get your officially-branded ATF shotgun at your local Zeta outlet store!

Good point

Thanks for the all important first comment.
