Tampa Bound! In it to WIN it! You Can HELP!

Help send our Maine National Delegates and Alternates to Tampa this August for the Republican National Convention. Ron Paul supporters across the State have overcome numerous obstacles to get to where we are today. Disenfranchisement, voter fraud, harassment from the Party elite, dirty tricks by the Romney Campaign and repeated attempts to obstruct the will of the assembly and derail the business of the convention.

Despite the odds, we elected a Convention Secretary, Convention Chair (by 4 votes), National Committee Man and Woman, 2 out of 2 National Electors, 21 out of 21 primary delegates, 21 out of 21 alternates as well as a power shifting share of new Liberty Minded State Committee Members - all thanks to the hard work, sacrifice and dedication put forth by many Maine Patriots.

The expected cost to attend the Republican National Convention is estimated to be $3,000 per person. This includes travel, food and lodging for what will become a historical 3 day event. All the donations we receive will be split between all of the delegates/alternates who face this extra financial burden in the cause of liberty. Please consider making a donation today!

Broke in Oregon

We are having a hard time finding enough people willing to run to be delegates because of the expense. Oregon is in the top of the lists when it comes to unemployment, taxation, homelessness etc. The deadline to file is 5/31 so we are running out of time. Purses are much tighter now than in 2008

suck a crooked system

willing to bet the romney delegates get all sorts of financial support with our tax dollars.

I will certainly chip in....

But, damn! They were all supposed to be vetted to ability to pay expenses. How did that not happen?

It will be very disappointing is we lose delegates and alternates due to lack of follow through with a financial commitment. No fault of their own of course... unless their was less than truth involved?

I'm sure the Governor and wife will be flying first class as "Paul delegates" with the rest of the Paul delegates flying baggage or wheel wells.

It may be time for rice and beans from now until August.

Sorry for negativity, but expenses were clearly explained prior to the process. Now the process is done.

Henry...........

You're another one of those..."sorry for the negativity" trolls.

Bottom line gang....the Maine State Convention had over 1,700 comments. All through out that thread...people were saying how great they were....what "wonderful patriots they are"....or "if i could be with there with you I would."

Well, these Maine delegates and the other delegates from around the country are going to be OUR representatives at the National Convention. For those of us not going to Tampa..... our number one priority should be to help ALL of the delegates as best we can.

Anyone who posts anything negative about helping out with delegate expenses is either a troll...or a moron.

henry9's picture

Rather Harsh there brother

The intent from the header in reference was I intend to "chip in" the best I am able.

The main point was everyone was told here by the campaign not to become a national delegate unless you intend to go and are able to pay for it.

"a troll...or a moron"?----Maybe I should stay a bit more sensitive to others interpretations of simple concepts.

At least I attempt to stay honest and for the most part respectful.

I'm sure we agree on more than not.

My thinking is:

Do Not live beyond your means.

Honor contracts.

Bailouts are counter productive and encourage dependency.

I truly pray all delegates and alternates arrive safely in Tampa and help give Dr Paul his due place in history... President Paul!!!

I would donate as well if You could take pay pal.

I would have given to the South Dakota money bomb had they accepted Pay Pal. I will donate if you set it up as well.

It is Pay-Pal. Thank You for

It is Pay-Pal. Thank You for considering! appreciate it!

I hope all the delegates

People have fought for and fought to become don't get taken down by a travel expenses. I don't have much but if there is a delegates bomb I will donate to it. I think it would be a good idea.

Hey Liberty........

It's pretty much a certainty that we are going to lose delegates because of the travel costs. Aroostook County is not a rich county. $2000-$3000 is going to be too much for some of these people.

It is up to everyone around the country who is not a delegate...and who can afford it....to chip in and help with expenses for the Maine delegates....and other delegates around the country.

I Agree

I know Maine well.....Lived there for a many years. While it is one of the most hauntingly beautiful states in the union it is not a wealthy one.

However, Mainers are endowed with that Yankie spirit and ingenuity. I know that every delegate that was elected will be in Tampa!

I Agree

Sorry for the double post!

Suggestions for your trip to Tampa

I think ALL delegates who need to keep it affordable should either contact the Meet-ups in the Tampa Bay area and get help setting up lodging and transportation.

I think you could even advertise on Craigslist to find places to stay and good folks who could drive you to the convention center.

I might be able to help lodge and drive 5-6 people for very cheap if I change my vacation plans.

Hey Riviera........

From what I'm hearing its going to really hard to stay in hotels/friend's homes outside of convention area/surrounding Tampa area........because of the extremely tight security that will be at the convention center. Also been hearing that security checks will also be taking place at hotels that have delegates staying in their establishments.

It will be a real PITA to get to the convention

but where I work at the Innisbrook Resort is where Florida delegates will stay. I believe they'll get to the convention an hour away by charter bus. Many delegates are staying up to an hour away from Tampa in different hotels and resorts all around the city.

I'm sure there'll be check points to get there during that particular weekend.

Be sure to register your group with the FEC!

When a group is formed to raise money for delegates, you have 10 days to register with the Federal Election Commission after raising $1,000 in a calendar year.

The following is from "FEC Rules for National Convention Delegates," available here: http://www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/delegate.shtml

May Delegates Join Together to Raise and Spend Funds?
Yes. Under FEC regulations, they would be acting as a delegate committee. A delegate committee is a group that raises or spends funds to influence the selection of one or more delegates. A delegate committee may be a group of delegates or a group that supports delegates.

Do Delegate Committees Have to File FEC Reports?
Possibly. A delegate committee becomes a "political committee" under federal law once it receives contributions or makes expenditures exceeding $1,000 in a calendar year. At that point, the committee must register with the FEC within 10 days and begin filing periodic FEC reports to disclose its receipts and disbursements. All pre-registration activity must be disclosed in the first report. Note that a delegate committee that has triggered status as a federal political committee must include the word "delegate" or "delegates" in its name. It may also include the name of the Presidential candidate it supports.

You are also bound by all the FEC regulations about prohibited donations. I didn't notice any disclaimers on your site, which increases the likelihood that you'll get illegal campaign contributions, and give our enemies a reason to challenge you at the Convention (not to mention get yourself fined or thrown in prison.)

Who is Prohibited From Contributing to a Delegate?
Individual delegates may not accept any contributions from sources prohibited from making contributions in connection with federal elections. These sources include:

• Corporations (including banks and nonprofit corporations);
• Labor organizations;
• Foreign nationals or businesses (except "green card" holders--those admitted to the United States for permanent residence); and
• Federal government contractors (such as partnerships and sole proprietors with federal contracts).

Thanks

This is very important.

some rough numbers.... $3000 x 1000

1000 delegates times $3000 is ~ $3,000,000.
That is not chump change. We would need a stupendous money bomb to cover this.

I'm curious, what is the breakdown of the $3000? Lodging cost what? Airfare?

Are there rules surrounding donations?

All good questions

.

The Campaign was told to

The Campaign was told to inform its National Delegates that the individual costs could be $3000+ (also keep in mind that due to the fact that some National Delegates who are picked to take part in the committees will have to arrive the week ahead of the RNC to participate) The Hotel only offers a discount if you are staying for 5 days which is then $200 a night.

Are there ways you can try and save money too?

Airlines will sometimes give you discounts for buying blocks of tickets. Do you have any choices on hotels or does the RNC do the reservations? I'm sure the convention in Tampa pushes room demand to the max, but their might be alternatives like pooling together and renting a few large condos in a complex.

Reservations

The Hotel that we are slotted to stay at only offers the RNC discount if you are staying there for 5 days (which is $200 a night). Many of us are planning to stay with eachother (there are 42 RP primary and alternate delegates) - Not all of us need the financial assistance but there are many who do. All proceeds will be split among the delegation. So any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to read and share this! (please tweet this link as well!)

Priceline.com info

When we were heading to the State Convention in Sparks, NV we went onto priceline.com individually and because we knew the star value of the best hotel we selected that as the minimum, it was 3.5 stars. The hotel normally was about $100+ per night and we were able to get those great rooms at $35 a night!

Just a suggestion to try this method until you find the lowest price they will accept, usually right around a third the normal price. Way better than an RNC discount. You are able to include airfare and car rentals etc. Be sure to have a few meetings and iron this out with all so no one gets stung by priceline hey!

Hope that helps a little.

In the meantime..

Thank You Dr. K! I sent them a message as well. In the meantime perhaps everyone could help me share this page via twitter & FB! There are 42 of us heading to Tampa and any assistance to make sure we all get there is greatly appreciated! Thank You!
