Some Thoughts on "Taking Over the Democratic Party"

I barely noticed some discussion on the DP regarding the idea of taking over the Democratic Party by the LIBERTY Movement. Then, a recent event(that will be the subject of another post) brought this idea to the fore of my notice. Among other things, it appears that an idea that I thought was just at a initial discussion stage is being pursued very seriously and the general view seems to be go for it.

Perhaps this is a good idea, perhaps not. I have yet to form a firm opinion on this effort, however, I think some of the downsides of this idea should be considered.

1. The media is trying to spin our effort to return the R party to traditional/Robert Taft roots(on steroids?) as an insurgency that is subverting the R party from what it is properly.

How does a concurrent effort to take over the D party play in that propaganda war?

Picture Headlines like below

"Crazy Ron Paul Cultists at it Again
Now Targeting Dems for Subversion"

2. We know that the same forces control both parties so that there is no choice at the ballot box.

Do we want to replace no choice controlled by one group w/ NO CHOICE controlled by our group? Are we better than Neocons/against uni-rule or are we just upset that the uni-rule is not us?

I always thought that one of our greatest strengths was modeling ourselves after the style and ethics of RP. Is repeating the playbook of the neocons(in reverse) in keeping w/ the style and ethics of RP.

Paraphrasing a well known reference: What good is it for us to gain the World(of Power) and lose the Soul of what we are about/becoming what we are trying to defeat?

Practical Considerations

3. We are stretched thin as it is and we have yet a long way to go to ultimate victory. Would not beginning a new effort to take over the D's(starting from scratch) just serve to weaken our relatively meager resources/spread them too thin and jeopardize our far from finished but very promising take back the R party effort?

4. At the ballot box-If we make the Dem Party like the LIBERTY controlled R party, would that not tend to just create a wash at the ballot box and work against the restoration of LIBERTY?

5. We believe, but there are no definitive numbers, that we are attracting D's to bolster our effort to take back the R party from warmongering/civil liberties destroying/economy destroying NeoCons. If we make the D party more palatable to D branded at birth types-would that not again work against the benefit we gain by concentrating disaffected Dems to one check off on a ballot?

6. The more I ponder this the more I wonder if the origin of this idea was from the same powers we are trying desperately to displace.

Recommendation:

1. Hold off on any effort to take over the D party until AFTER the general election.

2. Do not proceed on this idea until we have had a healthy debate period on pros/cons, advisability of going down that road.

Thanks for reading.

when you see the genius of Paul's plan

"taking the GOP back to its roots"

... and then as a skeptic of the value of that plan to witness first-hand the degree to which this plan's execution has caused the establishment boot-lickers to writhe in conniption-fits of rage ...

I say we take the commie-crats party over too. I endorse this idea with extreme prejudice ...

{ you see ... I used to be one of these fools and I know them like the back of my hand }

I volunteer to FIGHT this new battle-front in the war for liberty.

We could expect just as much

We could expect just as much cheating. Here in Arkansas Wolfe got 40% of the vote and the head of the state dem. party simply announced that they were not going to give him any delegates. I guess the only reason they had the election was to fool the people into believing they had a voice.

I like this idea

but I think it would diminish our concentrated numbers within one party, thereby making it much harder to have a majority anywhere. This is a very long-term goal though.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just well-informed

One corrupt party at a time

One corrupt party at a time guys :). Actually though, this is why we all need to be issue voters not party line people. Yea i'm a Ron Paul Republican, but if a Dem in my area with an issue or 2 on the Liberty platform was running against A Neo Con Republican, i would definelty go for the Dem even if only over an issue or 2.

Agree.

I don't think it is a good idea to be like some do it yourselfers that begin remodeling the bathroom halfway through a kitchen remodel.

That is how it is done

You take over both parties the same way the progressives did in order to force their views on the people knowing that the MSM is in their control and brainwashes people into seeing it their way. Now people for liberty need to take over both parties and make the MSM irrelevant. It is probably the best way to return this country to freedom.

What is the most efficient/fastest/surest path to our goal of

LIBERTY?

Please see tasmlab's comments below. Also, would not a stark contrast speed the process of exposing the MSM/increase the total number of conversions to truth?

P.S. Again, do we serve our Movements "Brand" by being just as unethical as criminals?

Force their hand

If the Republican party successfully converts to an anti-war, anti-corporatist, anti-prohibition, anti-Fed (and essentially anti-banking sector/Wall St.), the Dems' value proposition is going to be pretty muddy.

Playing game theory here, I would guess that they would either have to shore up their position on their own, becoming also anti-war/corporatist/prohibition etc., as well and then the two parties could have a well intentioned debate on the role of government for the deployment of social service type programs exclusively i.e., social security, welfare, and socialized medicine.

Or, they would have to accommodate the war-mongers/supporters, perhaps by becoming FDR style interventionists using humanitarian rhetoric for warring, and perhaps try to blend a pro-Christian bent to forced charity, essentially becoming the centrist thing we have now, but with more open arms to neocons.

This aside, I'm not sure who should be tasked with this, but the reformation of the Democratic party should probably happen while a Republican is sitting in power. There won't be much of an appetite for people to attend caucuses before then.

(This is all hobbyist conjecture - I'd like to hear what somebody knowledgable would say)

Thanks for some excellent contributions to this topic tasmlab

If I may. By actively taking over the R's we passively take over the D's-without lifting a finger or spending a dime.

I agree that is a very high probability outcome when we complete our retaking of the R's for LIBERTY.

You make some very good points.

Taking over the Democratic party would be a serious undertaking, and one that requires much consideration.

At the very least, it would be advisable to wait.

Thanks for the comment and concurrence w/ thinking this through

The vote total confirms that there is an interest group pushing this thing on a fast track because at least two down votes were registered w/i moments of this post going hot.

Thanks Again hbenthow.
