Poland beekeepers kick Monsanto out of the hive, successfully ban bee-killing GM corn

(NaturalNews) A significant health freedom victory has taken place in the European nation of Poland, where all plantings of Monsanto's MON810, a genetically-modified (GM) variety of maize (corn) that produces its own built-in Bt insecticide in every kernel, have been officially banned.

The decision comes after thousands of protesters recently took to the streets in demonstration of the undeniable fact that both MON810 and the chemicals applied to it are at least partially responsible for causing Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), the worldwide phenomenon in which entire swarms of honey bees disappear or turn up dead.

"The decree is in the works. It introduces a complete ban on the MON810 strain of maize in Poland," said Polish Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki, who also explained to the press that pollen from MON810 appears to be responsible for further devastating the already dwindling bee population throughout the country and elsewhere.

According to reports, Poland's decision to ban MON810 makes it the first nation to formally acknowledge that Monsanto's GM corn is definitively linked to CCD. It also affirms the findings of several earlier studies that have identified a link between Bt GM crops and bee deaths, including independent research conducted by Pennsylvania beekeeper John McDonald.

try to be consistent

Thank you for making a host of unfounded assertions while offering no substantiating evidence.

Besides, even if what you say is true, do we, as individuals, not have a right to treat our bodies as we desire? I mean, heroin is harmful. Should we ban it?

Personally, I try to avoid processed foods as much as possible, but that doesn't mean I have a right to force others to do the same.

Government force

Why is everyone celebrating the use of government force against private enterprise?

I thought the liberty movement was about the freedom to choose one's own path, not cheering more government.

nothing private about . . .

Monsanto's 'enterprise'--

sorry, Monsanto's actions are actions of war; a government has to protect its people--

the same justification is used as would be used in a nation having the power to wage a war in self-defense--

the problem with the current wars America is waging is that they are not self-defense, and the American government is afraid of Monsanto, a company which cares nothing for human lives and health--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Thank you for the perspective of reality

It could be compared to DDT,Depleted Uranium,Etc. It could in the end be the destruction of all mankind. There is nothing acceptable about this even in a free market system.

Probably because everyone

Probably because everyone hates monsanto. Genetically engineering anything is a bad idea. That pollen could be screwing up alot of stuff that we dont know about.

dave

Monsanto?

Private enterprise?

Private property rights?

In this situation, the government is protecting the beekeeper's property rights and simultaneously protecting the public against fraud perpetrated by Monsanto. A textbook example of legitimate functions of government...

weird sense of what property is

greg88, what property rights are you talking about?

The beekeeper owns his bees, and maybe some land, but what else? His bees go out and forage on someone else's property.

There is no private property to protect unless someone trespasses or steals the bee hives.

go ahead and make that argument--

when the bees are gone (and this will be the result of Monsanto's actions, even if not deliberate, though I doubt that) there will be no food. The fruit trees, etc., will not bear fruit. I would say that is destruction of property--

many people will also starve, which is a form of genocide. Monsanto's tactics are warmongering--

You are seeing property rights in black and white. Even Dr. Paul has stated his belief that people do not have the right to pollute the air and water away from others' property--

even if the pollution is not exactly ON that other property, it is affecting/damaging it--

same with bees/beekeeping--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Monsanto claims ownership

of the plant that is harming the bees. So their property is adversely effecting the beekeepers property. If you set up a pesticide fogger, and ran it 24/7, so it drifted over your neighbor's property, would you be liable for damages? Isn't Bt corn, in essence, a pesticide fogger that runs 24/7 and breeds in perpetuity? How's that for turning ownership of life into a liability for Monsanto. Hold them accountable for damages! In perpetuity!

Monsanto does NOT claim ownership

Monsanto does not claim to "own" the corn plant grown with their patented technology. They have a limited monopoly via the patent right - that is, they can go to court to sue a non-licensed user but they don't own the plant.

And, yes, you can be found liable for damages where your pesticides kill your neighbors' plants.

That's splitting hairs

You seem misinformed. I think you need a bit of study on Monsanto and GE foods. Poland banned a frankenfood. That's good news for lovers of liberty from every ism.

I disagree

I have studied these issues. I've also studied patent law. Contrary to your assertion, government force is NOT good for liberty.

in an ideal world, in a world where things haven't gone this far

of course you are correct. But will you argue that when people are dying/starving?

Bees are being threatened; bee populations are down everywhere; I know beekeepers, and this a grave concern.

By your same assertions, in a strictly theoretical sense, the right to defend in war is also not good for liberty--

a government has that right, but the defense should be private?

These monstrous non-private corporations are threatening the health and lives of many--

this isn't a private issue--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Nope

You can vote me down all you want on this, but the proper recourse would be a civil action against Monsanto (or Polish equivalent). The use of government force is not legitimate and is improper.

As to your comments re: "against fraud perpetrated by Monsanto," many on the left make the same claim about global warming deniers - that they're wrecking the planet for the rest of us.

Be careful with your slippery slope - you may fall down it.

and you can stay off the slippery slope if . . .

you (and those Monsanto has managed to protect) are the last person alive--

oh well--

Monsanto's very existence is dubious; that company has already broken so many laws, bullied so many nations--

many have tried to sue and been broken and beaten--

Maybe *you* should try--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

It's nice to know there's a country where

the will of THE PEOPLE to preserve their food supply (and life as we know it on this planet) has prevailed over corporate interests.

I highly recommend the following PBS special, "The Silence of the Bees."

Thank you

One time in Vancouver Canada I saw a hawk flying holding a crow...perhaps 50 crows responded...to that hawk and made noise flying all around it - the hawk gave up and released the young crow.
I saw it with my own eyes.

Just last night

was talking on the phone with a Mennonite in Chippewa Co, WI on how its such a crime that a farmer cannot save his/her own seed. Unless you are isolated for miles, the seed will be GMO/Monsanto contaminated. Got to know him through Seed Savers Exchange of Decorah, Iowa.

Yes, a CRIME!

Your comment made me think of what I watched last night, that inspiring video of the sheriffs in California. These giant corporations pick on individuals. There needs to be solidarity among local leadership. (http://www.dailypaul.com/236614/california-sheriffs-standing...)

I think God had beautiful plans for the interactions of species on this planet and the DNA sequences therein and imo, anyone who think they can improve on that is rotten to the core..lol

Thank you my friend

What Monsanto is doing is simply a war on nature.
