Washington State Convention - May 30-June 2 - Open Thread

The Washington state convention convenes tomorrow and adjourns on Friday. 40 delegates are being elected, 30 by congressional district and 10 at-large. Make sure you attend if you are a delegate or alternate, you may be seated!

"The Washington Republican State Convention (consisting of 1,500 delegates, 1,500 alternates, and the automatic delegates) convenes [WSRP rule 36].

National Convention delegate candidates declare their Presidential preference or uncommitted status at the time they are nominated. These delegates are bound for the first ballot at the National Convention [WSRP rule 37]."

I think I have found the Ustream link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/washingtonconvention

Update #2:

Romney - 24
Paul - 6

Update #3

A lot of you are disappointed that we did not win many delegates and will not win Washington, even if we win all 10 at-large delegates tomorrow. But remember this: Ron Paul supporters are flooding PCO slots up for election. These positions are rarely contested, but this time around there are many spots that are being contested. We are taking the party over from the ground up. Get in contact with the grassroots so you know who to vote for on the August 7 ballot. This is not over.

Does this mean

basically RP only has 6 delegates for the entire state?

I should read up more on the convention process

Can someone give me a primer on what happens to delegates originally won at the caucus?

While some states elect national delegates...

... at "lower level" conventions, Washington does not do it that way. Instead, the State Convention delegates broke up into CD delegations yesterday and elected 30 Tampa delegates (3 per CD x 10 CDs). Today, the entire State Convention reconvenes to elect 10 more "at large" delegates for Tampa:

The delegates that were picked at the caucuses and lower level conventions were State Convention delegates. Hope this helps.

I asked about what happened

I asked about what happened yesterday....

"Not sure. I heard ballots were missing names and not just in 4. Will know more tomorrow, or later today as the case may be!"

Sorry I cannot elaborate on that, but I don't want to give too much away

Thank you

Report when you can.

what

was the percentage of rp delegates and alternates that didn't show up. would it have made a difference if they had. can't blame the benton message for not showing up. the convention wasn't canceled, the goal was always to get as many delegates as possible. who doesn't understand that.

ducky

there is one ray of hope that

there is one ray of hope that I think you should consider. CD7 is the largest in the state and getting nearly 3/4th of the vote is the best news when considering all the delegates as a whole will be going after the at large delegates next. But we HAVE to bring in more people. If there are any delegates reading this, you NEED to find a way to get in contact with anyone you know who didn't show.

At least now we know what the problem is, and it's attendance. If there's any one you can call to come in do it now and hopefully their weak spine will straighten if they think they can spare a saturday.

Hi sovereigjanice - where did

Hi sovereigjanice - where did you hear that we are getting 3/4 of votes in cd7 and how many delegates come from cd7?
Thanks

from someone that is in cd7.

from someone that is in cd7. We only got 3 cd delegates because that's the max allowed, but CD7 looks to play the biggest part for the at large delegates.

Um, that would be against the rules.

If any delegates that haven't already shown up suddenly show up, they will not be seated. The body already approved the credential report. A small number may be seated on Saturday, but only because the ball was set in motion to do so Friday afternoon. Seating additional delegates at this point would be against the rules. You're too late.

Are You Sure?

In the Libertarian Party, the credentials committee reports frequently, and especially any time someone calls for them to report. They keep a running total based on who is checked in or out (reminder if you leave, let them know lest the quorum be lost).

Delegates could be seated any time.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

Wrong

Delegates can be seated at any time at a state convention. There is no cutoff.

AddyD probably isn't sure at all...

... While there certainly are Romney supporters who seek to be thoughtful in their opinions and accurate in their factual assertions (Shazad comes to mind), AddyD seems to post whatever will be provocative and insulting in a given context. In this sense, AddyD is a classic "troll."

How many of the "romney delegates" are actually for him???

and can we find out who they are? Can they be influenced? Can they be convinced to vote for Ron Paul?(on the first ballot?)

If any of you are at the WA state convention , meet and find as many "Romney delegates" as you can. They can be turned. It can happen, we must just be creative.

Some of you who are a bit "down" need to seriously start thinking outside of the box.

THIS IS A WAR, AND ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR!!!

It will make them hate you.

They're not stupid, they know exactly what you're trying to do. They came to this convention specifically to stop you.

They hate us already

What do you think this battle is all about?

Some of them hate us...

... and want a Rockefeller Republican for President (this group is primarily made up of Party insiders).

Some of them are Mormon, and want a Mormon for President (not so much in Washington, but in the Rocky Mountain states).

Some of them mistakenly believe Gov. Romney when he panders to them by identifying himself as a conservative. Should Romney be nominated and elected, there will likely be much buyer's remorse over the next four years.

Some of them would actually rather support someone else (maybe even Dr. Paul), but are now supporting Romney because of a perceived need to "be united," or to "vote for the winner" (the GOP has historically been a very "loyalist" party).

If we fall short in our attempt to nominate Dr. Paul, one of the things we need to do as we move forward is to persuade the members of the latter three groups above to embrace Liberty Movement principles and candidates. (We will replace the Party insiders, however, as we take over the GOP at the state and local levels; they know this, and it is one of the reasons why they hate us.)

Reasons why some hate others

I liked the way these posts ran along with the thread and felt another perspective might help.

Jesus said, "If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause." John 15:24-25

When we defend and uphold Liberty, tyrants cannot justify their hatred; but they don't know, or want to know, how to behave themselves better.
The bully must hide his fear behind false bravado, and the tryrant hides behind the false strength of arms alone. Reasoning is almost always left out of their false defenses.

For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it. - Patrick Henry

Amen, Promisekept!

... And on our end, we must try to act in a Christlike fashion. If we are to be hated, let it be because of our message, and not because of any inappropriate words and actions on our part.

Tis probably the most important message of the season!

We need to take over the party from the ground up. From there you can send the hacks back to the Democrats... Which is where they belong.

Didn't we go in with exactly 50% of delegates....

From earlier conventions? That's what maddow said! So I thought even if we lost all delegate slots this time, we still cannot have less than 50%?

By the way, do you know why we didn't have people show up? Because Benton told everybody we gave up and not all delegates read Paul blogs an don't know the truth. Benton is so worthless. Why did we give him$300k of our hard earned donations?

Ron Paul 2012

You mean...

You mean Rachel Maddow... didn't know what she was talking about? Shocker.

sorry we let you down

we did all we absolutely could to win, we worked so hard! but its a bummer we didn't pull through, i was gonna record but they keep a steady convention nothing to fishy, i just wish some people would have showed up!.. to let everyone know we did all we could to the fullest, on good side lots of us ron paul supporters are pco :-)

Don't sweat it! We appreciate

Don't sweat it! We appreciate the labor of love for constitutional liberty. Just continue to reeducate your ignorant opponents and purge your enemies. You'll know the difference. Good work.

thanks

Thank You, its a battle, i did make good peace with some romney supporters who do support paul but vote romney cause "he has better chance".. strange but there are Romney people who do like paul and im convinced they can come our way in tampa, we just have to be good people as usual.

Jeremy I

we know you guys did all you

we know you guys did all you could. We (at least I) are just pissed because of all the people that didn't show. If we show up, we win. How hard is it to just show up.

They did show.

They were all there. Is it just too hard to believe that there aren't as many of you as you think there are?

Good job

To all that attended and put up the good fight. I still can't belieive people think Romney is a good candidate. It is rather stunning.

I'm afraid we got killed today. Slaughter in CD #9.

In my Congressional district (#9) the Romney slate took every position - delegate and alternate.

One by one the Romney delegates dropped out before the vote so that the crook Lori Sotelo and her cohorts could win.

THEN during the vote-counting our man who went to observe was KICKED OUT as the votes were counted. But they let the Romney representative stay there.

The chair-woman claimed it was because we had a camera!

Another dirty trick was that they made each candidate DECLARE if they would support the republican nominee who they even NAMED as Romney.

What a disappointing day. And so far a total waste of my time, effort and money.

Apathy is waiting just around the corner for me again. The RNC is just too corrupt to fight.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

get off your ass

Stand tall even if you are all by yourself. Use your hate what ever it takes to keep you going. We need all of his guys to become a PC then we win for we control everything that moves up. So take a day off to feel like so many do but then it is time to get off that ass and RAM freedom down their throats like they rammed rmoney down ours.

Freedom's bushfire can NOT be put out once it is lit!
