Ron Paul Happy Lamar Smith Won?

Just how Sheriff Mack might see it from his point of view. Ron Paul never ended up giving an endorsement to the Tea Party candidate, despite sharing similar views. Many in the Liberty movement claim Lamar Smith is a “NeoCon” and that Sheriff Mack is a true “Liberty Candidate”. Lamar Smith defeated Sheriff Mack 76% to 14% in last night’s Congressional race in Texas.

In December of 2009, Ron Paul sent his supporters a letter encouraging them to support Lamar Smith. Some say that the letter...(cont)

Character has to count.

I don't know much about Sheriff Mack, or this race. I did read Dr. Paul's endorsement (to which a link was provided above). It sounds like an endorsement of the person in the least, putting aside whether it was or was not a political endorsement.

Dr. Paul values principle. If you've read other e-mails - like the one he recently sent for a State Senate election in South Carolina - he looks at the caliber of the person he's endorsing. In that case: The e-mail explained that this individual stood up not only for him, but for us, through his issue stances. In the letter linked above: Lamar Smith thoughtfully processed Dr. Paul's opinions and engaged him in a thoughtful discussion, which is really what he's been asking the WHOLE NATION to do for years!

In Virginia, according to exit polling, Dr. Paul beat Mitt Romney among voters who put character first! Dr. Paul may be one such voter himself.

Sheriff Mack

can now put on his resume, "2012 Candidate, US Congress, TX-District __".
This carries a lot of weight and will help him in the future.

How many times and in

how many ways must this be stated?:

The GOP has told Ron Paul that if he endorses anyone against an incumbent Republican in his state, then he is kicked out of the Party.

1) He's retiring
2) If they tried that now all he has to do is run third party and it will all but guarantee a loss for Romney. The GOP will not want to risk that.

Do you really think it would have made much difference?

Considering Texas does not really like Ron Paul that much anyway? Lamar Smith has been in office forever. People don't want to change things. They are happy and asleep.

Yes it would have made a

Yes it would have made a difference, because it would help boost fundraising. A national Presidential candidate encouraging the millions on his mailing list to donate to a local liberty candidate would have a big impact.
