Bound Delegates?

Matt was just saying last week that delegates are not bound according to 42 USC 1971 Voting Rights (b), and now he is saying delegates are bound to Romney on the first vote. I believe this law gives us the chance to unbind ourselves without fear of reprisal. Has there been any other news on this that I have not heard?

The original plan

The original plan was to just abstain. We just need to stop Romney in his tracks. We can show for Paul on later ballots.

not LEGALLY bound

as in there aren't any legal reprecussions.

is "legally" the operative word?

So when the GOP says bound to Romney, they mean according to their rules but not "legally" bound means there's no law that says they must vote for Romney.
Am I understanding this correctly?

Anyone telling you the GOP can lock you up or in any other way use government to punish you doesn't know what they are talking about.

It's a private club. They may banish you. They may do other mean and nasty things to you within the weird little confines of the twisted GOP, but that's the limit of their reach.

Mostly, courts stay out of it, saying it's a private dispute.

An exception is state ballots. That isn't owned by the GOP. That's owned by the people of the state.

Basically, the GOP runs their national convention as they see fit. And, Ron Paul supporters are a part of the "they".
