"The MSM has duped the ignorant public."? ...Really?...Ok, I have a Question:

"The MSM has duped the ignorant public"??? ... I have a Question:

Is it not funny or ironic that on the one hand we believe in the wisdom of the free market, yet when it comes to politics, we don't? I submit that the public is not UNINFORMED at all.

I have my own personal sample set, perhaps you have yours, but mine comes from door knocking as a PC in 2007-2008. I knocked on perhaps over 500 doors and over 300 front door conversations in 07/08....and again in another Arizona city in 2011-12 as a PC I knocked on over 1,000 and over 600 front door conversations. The bottom-line is that we libertarians have "failed to make the sale".

That is, the fault is all ours. It’s as simple as that, we just can't sell the "Liberty Steak". It smells and taste great to us, but we just can't get the masses to bite.

In my estimation, there are 2 reasons why we fail "make the sale". One (1) is our obsession with the vitamins & protein content inside the Steak of Liberty and two (2) not selling the delicious sizzling smell & taste of the Liberty Steak: what is the enjoyment IN THE FUTURE? What will it get me IN THE FUTURE? How will it make me feel IN THE FUTURE? How will it make me look IN THE FUTURE? and MOST OF ALL how will my eating the freedom steak HELP OTHERS in the FUTURE?

Now you and I may like Ron Paul's speeches, but his speeches fail to "make the sale" because they don't sizzle with the public. Oh the general Public certainly knows Ron's positions, as well as anyone's, they just don't see it in their FUTURE. And why should they? His speeches "seem" to be about going back to the 'past'. That leaves PRACTICAL PEOPLE (i.e. non-ideological political people) with only ONE way to think: "Gee do I want the country’s PAST to be my country’s FUTURE?".

And so, we in the "Liberty-Steak selling movement" need to start painting the "10 years from now..." VISION. As in, "America, 10 years after the Drug War ended....this is how it looks, this is how people feel, and this is how it’s helped OTHER PEOPLE…….(and now close the sale with) And don’t you want that in YOUR future?"

Selling a positive VISION is a thousand times more inspiring and motivating and VOTE GETTING than selling a dystopian vision of the future police-state. Rather than reminding people of what Orwell said in the past about a boot in Man's face, sell them a vision of what peace & liberty really looks like. Show them that when the government shrinks, the Voluntary Community GROWS & GROWS & GROWS all to take its place in wonderful and unique ways.

As your mother used to say about making the sale.... "You will attract more bees with honey...".

Believing that the voting public is stupid is an excuse. Scaring them about the police state and then scaring them about the loss of government services, just confuses the matter. Its time we worked on our sales pitch.

We must know our customer better. The voting public is a "practical lot". That is they are not political, not ideological, and just want the FUTURE vision sold to them. Don't argue with the customer, lets give them what they want. And what they want is a better, freer, healthier, friendlier, safer future. Yes they will bite the Freedom Steak if we sell the future to them.

It is high time we stop "warning", "reminding", "threatening", "scaring" and "scolding" them to get freedom, and start SELLING the FUTURE vision of a FREER world. For example, take a look at your Facebook postings, how many fall into one of the above categories? Is that cartoon scolding, threatening, warning? What link or essay or cartoon is about the FUTURE that ACCEPTED FREEDOM? Here is what the customer asks...

(1) What does MORE FREEDOM look like? That is what they want to know.
(2) How does MORE FREEDOM help me? That is what they want to know.
(3) How will MORE FREEDOM help everybody else? That is what they want to know. For example, you and I would push the button to abolish the 5 departments that Ron Paul said he would. But they want to know the answer to the above 3 questions before THEY push the buttons.

The VISION? What will more freedom look like in 5 to 10 years? Our Liberty Customers are asking us to sell it to them, the question is, will we? Will we sell them a future freedoms that they cannot imagine but long to enjoy?

Will "Freedom be Calling" in the 21st Century?

2012: St Louis Missouri

"Raker is a 50 year old detective who is use to dealing with drug crimes and the seedy side of life in year 2012. Suddenly while going through a crack house on the West side of the city, Raker gets hit hard on the back of the head.

Raker wakes up, to his surprise, 10 years later. Turns out his only daughter hung by him all these years and refused to "pull the plug" on him. When the "new drug" came, all it took was a shot to wake him out of his coma. "What year is it? he asks. "2022" she answers, "Its been ten long years dad".

Raker and his daughter leave the hospital and have a nice talk, catching up on things as they ride down the freeway in her car. Then Raker suddenly notices that she is not really steering the car. Why the car and all the cars and even the freeway is "networked" and "drives itself". He looks out and sees that many things have changed, and for the better!

Then he asks what time it is, and the car replies "its 5pm". He now notices there is NO TRAFFIC JAMS. Wow, things are for the better! "How did THAT happen?", he asks.
"They privatized the roads" ...
"What?!!! You've got to be kidding me!" he says.

His loving daughter explains to him, "there are lots of good changes dad, since we freed the country from our old ways". Still curious about what happened to him, he asks to return to the seedy side of town, to the crack building where he got hurt. What does Raker find? Clean new condos.

"What happened?" he asks his daughter in shock. She says "dad, a lot of good things happened, lets get the drugs the doctor suggested." ...Then Raker asks as they enter the drug store, "Where's my prescription?" and the daughter answers "The doctor just um, emailed, yea he emailed it to my T-Phone and I sent it here. Its waiting for us now."

As the two walk in Raker notices and recognizes a well known, yet well dressed, but former crack-head walking out of the store. Raker looks stunned. The daughter says, "Dad, drugs have long been legalized. There are no prescriptions any more too, you just take the doctors advice as to what medicines to get, or not. The medicines I like are FDA stamped recommended, but we can buy cheaper ones too if you like."

Raker replies, "Dam, I guess 10 years has gone by. I am 60 years old now, but I don't feel a day older. Hey my hands look young!"

And the daughter replies, "It will take me a while to explain that one dad. Lets just say 5 years ago I gave you lots of new treatments, ok?" and she hugs him, "Welcome back dad, I love you."

Freedom can't compete with free goodies?

Quoth H.L Mencken: "Every election is a sort of advance auction of stolen goods."

The only promise freedom makes is this: you can keep the fruits of your own labor, and pay the costs of your own mistakes. Your own choices will determine your life's course, without government interference, neither help nor hindrance.

Statist politicians, on the other hand, can promise you ANYTHING, and promise as well that someone else will pay for your benefits. Quoth Frédéric Bastiat: “The state is that great fiction by which everyone tries to live at the expense of everyone else.” They can promise "free" healthcare, education, insurance, roads, security, mail service, unemployment insurance, welfare, old-age pensions, cheap drugs, and a million more "benefits" and "services."

Freedom promises you nothing but what you can earn yourself.

Would a free society be more prosperous, benevolent and livable than our present society? Yes -- but NOT for everyone. Those who are accustomed to acquiring wealth by extortion, fraud and armed robbery (i.e. each and every "government employee" and the corporations that feed on government contracts) or by "welfare" -- more armed robbery disguised as "government charity" -- may find their old way of life is no longer possible. They will find the prospect of radical change terrifying. Look at the desperate maneuvers that the GOP is using against Paul's supporters to hold on to power. Do you think they want a free society? Hardly; they just want special perks from the one we have. They want wealth they haven't earned as political spoils.

Freedom appeals to honest people, who want no more than what they honestly earn. Statism appeals to those who want whatever they want, no matter who they have to victimize to get it.

Just try selling a better Future under freedom and see.

You must admit, selling dystopian despair has had limited success.

In what market?

If you're selling the expectation of goodies, you're going to lose.

Liberty isn't better than Statism because it necessarily leads ALL people to a happier, more prosperous life -- under statism, a lot of people literally "make out like bandits" -- as the magic machine of government allows them legal means to loot their neighbors, never mind that the same neighbors are trying their best to turn the tables.

Liberty is better than Statism -- morally better. Provably. Liberty is the idea that your life and your honestly acquired property belong to YOU, by moral right, and that no majority, no government, no collective "public good" can rightfully deprive you of either, nor can they restrict or regulate your peaceful conduct or your mutually voluntary interactions with others. Liberty isn't in a bidding war with Statism over which social system offers you more goodies. It's in a moral war with Statism over who owns your life.

dadooda.... you say it is not in a bidding war with Statism, but

it most certainly is.

And when I say, "is" I mean is and not ought. As in "this is a rock" vs "people ought to like rocks".

So yes, Liberty is in a bidding war, your phrase, not mine, with Statism. Mankind, seems so wired.

Statism lost behind the Iron curtain because smuggled fax machines and VCR tapes showed the pragmatic people (and that IS what most people ARE) who had the better bid. East Germans were very jealous of what the West Germans had. Its as simple as that. No ideological moral conversion happened, none. Zero. Please investigate and reflex about it and get back with me.

Vision: Atlas Shrugged

Ayn Rand gave us that vision of an unobstructed, voluntary society, back in 1957. Atlas Shrugged is the reason many of us were attracted to libertarianism before the word "libertarian" was even invented. She gave us a vision of a society with minimal government, and even more importantly, she provided a philosophical justification for liberty as a social good rather than a selfish sin. The book keeps winning new converts, year after year.

Another excellent libertarian vision of an anarcho-capitalist future can be found in L. Neil Schulman's young adult novel, Alongside Night.

The books are there. But the people do not read.

Recommended reading: The Most Dangerous Superstition, http://www.amazon.com/Most-Dangerous-Superstition-Larken-Ros...

Thanks, I will check out that novel

Alongside Night

And I do not know about you, but Ayn's Galt's Gulch was strange for its emptiness. I agree it was supposed to be an ideal place, but it was sparsely described and baron and to me, very uninspiring. Now it could be that she did not want to mix in a utopian vision with the rest of the dystopian vision which was Atlas Shrugged, I don't know. Perhaps it is a cardinal rule in literature not to do that.

More recommendations

A couple years back, I started a thread on favorite libertarian fiction. Several of the books there have Utopian societies, notably L. Neil Smith's "North American Confederacy" series beginning with The Probability Broach. I particularly recommend The Forge of the Elders in that series.

Other libertarian Utopias can be found in The Diamond Age, by Neal Stephenson; The Great Explosion, by Eric Frank Russell; The Syndic, by C.M. Kornbluth; The LaNague Chronicles, by F. Paul Wilson; and Freehold, by Michael Z. Williamson. There may be other books mentioned on that thread that have Utopian visions, but those are the ones I know and recommend myself. Almost all the other books are dystopian, though many have libertarian themes.

Overcoming MSM Mind Control

Through manipulation of the minds for so many years, the MSM and dept. of education have placed "politically correct" blinders on the minds of the masses and they have been taught to know their limits of conversation.

Putting parameters on topics of conversation also ends up equating to a "lack of knowledge" via automatic denial of selected info. That's why when you attempt to "go there" they either "shut down" or try to change the subject becuase it is an uncomfortable point of conversation AND they just don't have enough knowledge on the topic(s) to be able to engauge in conversation. Thus, the masses have been taught to be SELF-WILLED IGNORANT on SELECTED topics.

So how do you overcome this knowledge barrier? You need an "ice breaker". Look for errors in their beliefs, then cause them to QUESTION those beliefs. At this point, as irresistable as it is, don't try to tell them the way you see it, unless they ask for you're opinion, but just let the thoughts soak in.

Once they see the errors in their own logic materialize will cause them to start questioning those beliefs, which eventually will open the door to more input.

What the? > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MTIwY3_-ks

This problem has not been satisfactorily solved

I've started several times to write a post like yours and was never happy with the results.

You're absolutely right that Constitutionalists have failed to present a compelling vision of America's future based on a return to the original design, or even to outline in the most basic terms how much better the average American's life would be now if our immediate ancestors had resisted the schemes of Wilson, the Roosevelts and all the other "improvers" of the American design for limited government.

Middle class wealth now would be staggering; the result of several generations of no war, low or zero taxation, no inflation and savings with interest compounding at natural rates. The entire population seeking their own well being through productive effort only. This vision of what could exist now is fantastic to contemplate.

HOWEVER: This vision and the breathtaking future possibilities cannot be promoted by politicians who are commited to strict constitutionality. The ONLY promise Ron Paul or any other like-minded government official can make is the Oath of Office. The Ron Paul campaign cannot and will not present a glowing vision of the future to secure votes and supporters.

So who can fulfill this critical need - to show how our lives could be better? Schools should have been keepers of the flame, also media and the arts. The public monuments in Washington DC and the Smithsonian. All have failed. I don't know the answer, do you?

I think R3VOLution Liberty candidates could and should

Sound off on the vision of more freedom. Notice that the Communist did this with great success, even though they had bad results each and every year.

..."Comrades, more collectivization will bring abundance and health and wealth. Comrades, more for everybody, no one will go hungry, no one will be without a place to live, no one will be without!" ...

Such claims worked for a long time. The Populace waited, and waited, and waited... and then when their smuggled fax machines brought news of outside world, how much better the WEST was living, they were surprised. Then when their smuggled VCR machines showed movies from the WEST, they knew that they were being lied to. Tomorrow's better day was NOT coming as the communists and socialists had promised. And in 1989, the Berlin Wall came down.

But we libertarians and we in the R3VOLution and most of all, our politicians running for office, CAN MAKE CLAIMS of a wonderful future ahead. Freedom is the answer.

I agree entirely

Ive been in sales my entire career, its what I do, and this is a GREAT post. I also happen to be getting into politics and am coming at it from this approach. SELL SELL SELL. There is honestly no one in their right mind that would reject liberty, if only they understood and could APPLY critical thinking to what it would mean for them. A picture is worth a thousand words, a video worth millions. Lets sell them a delicious LIBERTY sandwich. We should be painting the picture, quite literally if it comes to it. As a salesman, and a great one at that, I always pride myself in the triple win doctrine, win for the customer (voter), win for me, win for my company (my fellow patriots in the constitution).

I think Treg is right. We need to demonstrate what our country would be like with a small government or show what our educational system would become without the Dept. of Education. Also, others are right; people are dumb and lazy. They fell for the "hope" and "change" mantra very easily.

As stated, we should constantly, in creative ways remind people of Dr. Paul and the Liberty movement. I attached a picture of my Mother's Day gift. I like that I remind people of the movement as I drive along our roads and highways.

AVATAR, the top selling movie of all time is libertarian

Its all about the violation of the private property rights and way of life of the blue people.... its them versus the giant corporate-military industrial complex who will stop at nothing to get "Unobtainium" --- that name is hilarious.

Yet the "stupid" people all around the world easily "got it". Small Chinese land owners who own their ground together find that they get their land taken by govt-corporate authorities to build hotels, they get it. They dress up as the blue people avatar and protest. All around the world, people get it. They get the morality of freedom. Its not hard to understand.

SO I believe that showing a future that is better BECAUSE of freedom is not a hard sell at all. We just need to make that kind of product that sells freedom today, by showing what they get, tomorrow.

If they are asleap...

If they are asleep there is little we can do. When I talk to people they are generally very favorable to our ideas (especially when you don't mention a politician). But here is the issue. They'll dismiss it by the next morning. They can't go along with it because by doing so it would mean they would have to make a core value shift and that's hard to change without them knowing it's a completely normal idea to have (they want to know they won't be isolated). We've had the media perverting Americans minds for so long the only way to counteract it is by having the same amount or more interactions with people.

In design and marketing this is called touchpoints. The more people see the liberty brand the more the general public will become more open to it. Many, currently believe it's this weird group. They need to see that "EVERYONE" agrees with it.

Now how do you do that?

It's simple repetition. But it has to look genuine. For example, leaving Ron Paul articles you printed out at coffee shops. That's a touch point and someone will eventually look at it. But you have to do it in mass just like internet advertising. If you make an online ad you'll maybe have thousands of impressions and several clicks till you make one conversion. A person has to see a touchpoint maybe 5-7 times before they will make an action. BUT IT CAN'T LOOK LIKE PROPAGANDA!!! or even a political message at all. It need's to look like someone just like themselves figured this all out. It's that simple. It's honestly less of the actual message at first and more of "wow" this is an acceptable idea that millions of Americans have. Maybe I should look into it.

There are thousands of ways to do this. Maybe have a full color article that you're reading on the bus or train. Sit next so someone and whisper loud enough so they can hear you "Holy Crap that's insane" then if they look over at you it's a perfect time to open up a small conversation. Don't get into who you support, just talk about the article non-biasly and leave it for them to read and say you won't believe what's going on. If you do that maybe 3 times during a commute people will read it.

Here is another idea. Ask your apartments doorman to hold a HUGE package with the RON PAUL logo on it so when people walk into their complex they'll see it. Then have them do it once a week with a different shaped box.

If you own a business do the same thing, get a bunch of boxes and make it look like they are actually being shipped to you and leave it in-front of you business. Fill the thing with weights so it's hard to move. People will see it as long as the box looks big, intense and is continual it will seep into the subconscious. It's the same thing as when people slow down to see an accident, then have to be in the know.

When people ask who Ron Paul is give them the weireist look like they are completely retarded. DON'T Call them retarded!!!! Then simply say "You don't know who Ron Paul is, where in the world have you been" don't get into anything with them, make it look like they should know what's up and that they are soooo out of touch with reality that they'll be force to look it up. Don't even say he's a politician!!!

Finally, stickers everywhere!!!!! when people go to the bathroom at the jamba juice or denys or wherever people go you need to slap a liberty touchpoint!!! It needs to be slapped on trash cans, bus route signs, random places you happen to look at for more then a couple of seconds (we are humans, if you look guaranteed someone else will).

TOUCHPOINTS PEOPLE!!!

And the future freedom vision thing?

You did not say....

I believe Benjamin Franklin

I believe Benjamin Franklin said that too but it was about selling honey and not being able to sell vinegar. Forgot how it goes; just read it couple days ago. Very insightful. I also have noticed if you try to sell the sweet while reminding them that we'll get vinegar if we continue the policies (and be bluntly honest), it seems to work too. I think I've pulled on a few new Paul supporters that way.

When I ask people what they know about Ron Paul

I get the usual: He's a racist. He's a nut job. I like him but he'll never win. All pure msm narrative. I think you're right about selling the sizzle though. As far as reaching most of the people though, S.W. Churchill said it best I think, "The best case against Democracy is any five minute conversation with the average voter."

Now it's about the Constitution and the fight to defend it.

Limited Perspective

They need to know the stuff that they either don't know about or flat-out reject knowing. They're perspcetive is limited because of their source of info, i.e. FOX, CNN, ect. So how do you get them past these mind blocks?

There is an old saying: "If someone is to change their mind, they must first QUESTION what THEY THINK they already know".

So first cause them to question their own thoughts....

That opens the door to explore outside the box, or in this case the box iz the boob tube, that their mind is captured in.....

Because: Some animals are more equal than other animals. -Animal Farm-

What the? > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MTIwY3_-ks

Agreed with what you're saying Treg

I was sold on Dr. Paul by the vitamin and health content of the steak because I was fed up by the sizzle of the other steaks that smelled good, but was not satisfying. We've been taught to buy the packaging and disregard the content. This is what's wrong with our society.

If that's true

that we didn't "make the sale," then how did Ron Paul get so popular? There's one reason, and one reason alone that Ron Paul is not running for his second term as president today, and that's the intense and thorough nationwide and universal media information, propaganda, and blackout campaign. People will vote for what they're presented with, but it's perfectly obvious to me that if it were all about "making the sale," and an inability to do that, then the media would just go ahead and let us present our case to the public and let us fail to do that. The fact of the efforts of the past four years, coupled with the exponential growth of the internet has allowed people to become more informed than they were four years ago, but the media propaganda machine and the nationwide blackout has obviously still taken its toll. The sale would be made to the vast majority of the people who heard the message, were it to be gotten out.

Its how we are selling, not what we are selling

The internet has allowed for a longer sale to take place. People can research the 'crazy' ideas on their own with the internet. But even here, on the internet, our SALE's PITCH for MORE Freedom is all about Scare tactics, warnings, scoldings, history lessons and on and on.

I am suggesting that we PAINT the bright future of what our would WOULD look like if just ONE thing was more free. Say the Drug War ended. What would America and the World look like in say after 10 years of that?

The reason why liberty & freedom advocates do not connect into the Emotional Complex is they fail, I think intentionally out of fear to be proved wrong later on or paint a Pollyanna picture, to constantly IMAGINE UP what a Utopian Liberty World (ULW) would look like.

Libertarians know that the future is wide open under a regime of freedom that respect everyone's individual rights. They wisely note how unpredictable it is. Yet the fact is we humans NEED, indeed CRAVE such visions. We eat up Star Trek and Star Wars. Indeed we've made many of those technological visions come true. These are NOT dystopian visions of the future, these are Visions that we ASPIRE TOO. And so, they show problems solved and best of all solved with freedom, reason and peace.

Unlike Ayn Rand's dystopian Shrugged or George Orwell's 1984 or Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, what the Liberty movement is SORELY MISSING is a "ten years from now" Utopian vision of liberty. From small detective shows placed 10 years into the future to medical shows placed 10 years into the future, Americans and the world is missing that vision. Its a vision that can show PROBLEMS solved with liberty.

The voting public,

like the general public, ARE stupid -- if you equate stupidity with unlearned, uninformed, pig-headed, self-centered, shallow, short-sighted, and intellectually lazy. They would rather be told what to think or believe rather than learning themselves. This condition exists in all demographics.

For instance, among church-goers, they would rather listen to a pastor who spouts denominational dogma than read the Bible and meditate on what it says. I've never met a pastor who had more than a very rudimentary knowledge of the languages the Bible was written in.

The same situation exists in political parties: the members just accept the drivel spoon fed them from the establishment.

The general public are spoon fed from the media.

Believing that the voting public is stupid is an excuse.

Its time we worked on our sales pitch.

It time we stop warning, reminding, and scolding and start SELLING the FUTURE vision of a FREER world. (1) What does that look like? That is what they want to know. (2) How does that help me? That is what they want to know. (3) How will that help everybody else? That is what they want to know. For example, you and I would push the button to abolish the 5 departments that Ron Paul said he would. But they want to know the answer to the above 3 questions before THEY push the buttons.

The VISION? Our Liberty Customers are asking us to sell it to them, the question is, will we?

Yes.

I agree. I think that some people probably get overwhelmed or scared when they hear the truth about all of the problems in this country/govt, so after we show them aaalllll of the lies/corruption, it would be wise to follow up with how Dr. Paul would fix stuff and what that "fix" looks like. We need to paint a pretty picture of future America and how great it will be.

What does healthcare look like? and the value of our money? Can we go to college without going bankrupt? Get jobs? Does America make stuff again? What about education?

I agree, we need to show them how much better things would be. Maybe even do a compare and contrast of an America with/after a Paul presidency -vs- an anybody else presidency. what would the differences be in our futures? I think we should definitely illustrate this for the people.

Yes, you've got it. We produce lots of Youtube videos .... but

very few show a POSITIVE future once ....

1) Dept of Education is abolished and education privatized...
2) Drug War Ended...
3) Bases closed around the world and troops brought home...
4) War on Terror Ended...
5) Federal Reserve Ended and Free Market Money ...
6) The Income Tax Abolished...
7) A Small Federal and State Government?
8) The Environment with Private Property protections...

When was the last time you saw a futuristic ANYTHING that showed a FREER America?
