Spokesman: RNC not blocking Ron Paul fest at fairgroundsSubmitted by legalizeliberty on Tue, 06/05/2012 - 12:53
TAMPA -- The Republican Party is not attempting to block a three-day festival for Ron Paul supporters at the Florida State Fairgrounds the weekend before the party's convention, a spokesman with the convention's Committee of Arrangements said.
The accusation was made in an email from the chief planner of Ron Paul Fest to supporters of the presidential candidate this weekend.
As part of its agreement with local governments for the convention, the Republican National Committee has first dibs on all publicly owned event venues during the convention. Groups wanting to hold events there must get approval from the Committee on Arrangements.
Paul supporters are suspicious because they haven't received approval for the festival, which is expected to bring comedy and musical performers, political speeches and thousands of people to the fairgrounds Aug. 24 to 26, the weekend before the convention begins in Tampa on Aug. 27.
