Spokesman: RNC not blocking Ron Paul fest at fairgrounds
Submitted by legalizeliberty on Tue, 06/05/2012 - 12:53TAMPA -- The Republican Party is not attempting to block a three-day festival for Ron Paul supporters at the Florida State Fairgrounds the weekend before the party's convention, a spokesman with the convention's Committee of Arrangements said.
The accusation was made in an email from the chief planner of Ron Paul Fest to supporters of the presidential candidate this weekend.
As part of its agreement with local governments for the convention, the Republican National Committee has first dibs on all publicly owned event venues during the convention. Groups wanting to hold events there must get approval from the Committee on Arrangements.
Paul supporters are suspicious because they haven't received approval for the festival, which is expected to bring comedy and musical performers, political speeches and thousands of people to the fairgrounds Aug. 24 to 26, the weekend before the convention begins in Tampa on Aug. 27.

Maturity and discretion
will go far in advancing the Paul/Liberty Festival.
Let's have some patience and see what develops.
We need not be boxed in by the RNC; there are alternative grounds that can be used. I'm crossing my fingers that organizers won't wait until it's too late to make this happen.
If the RNC isn't blocking Paul Festival,
why won't they release the venue? Those commenting on this thread that their is no basis for this claim are not privy to emails and phone conversations with the RNC and the officials at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

You know I asked for evidence
You know I asked for evidence on the call - and you are not the only event at the fairgrounds there are other proposals to the RNC just for separate buildings. I tried to help you guys, I wanted to see you all succeed, everyone that left did. have a nasty woman not involved make me the fall person I just wanted to help with fundraising I came in when they were planning a coup and tried to stop it I reached out to good hearted pro-paul professional friends of mine and they were treated terribly. None of us that left ever wanted to be on the board they just wanted an event to happen and it was too big for you guys and it is amazing that you organized a march - it changed the movement but this is a million dollar production with other peoples money, much different. The point i realized I could not help was when 8 people pleaded with you guys to listen to their valid concerns they were thrown away like their hard work did not matter, Zak is a good friend of mine and NOT A LIAR so if you know who said that please correct them

Great
I just heard the PaulFest thing crashed and burned. I guess the one thing that would have made a great showing of Paul support is done. Oh well. lol I guess Jesse benton released a press message saying Paul can't win Paulfest and does not have the party hats he thought he had. lol
This is absolutely horrible, I mean there are so many people on facebook talking about going to PaulFest. I see people posting pics of the advertisements all the time. Now it has fallen through. What an embarassment. This will be laughed at and mocked by the neocons and msm for days now.
I guess you all better start hoping the RNC played a role in killing Paulfest.

Paul Festival is still on - I
Paul Festival is still on - I don't know who has told people that it isn't happening, but it is. Whoever would tell people Paul Fest isn't happening, after work has been done for months on it, does not have the best interest of the liberty community at heart.

Paul Fest or Paul Mess?
I have heard many people have left from working on the festival project. I see some have been taken off of the website too. What is really going on?
We Are The GOP! Ron Paul Republicans!
Tough negotiation.
Be patient, but don't buy an airline ticket yet.
The person's idea about renting a docked Cruise Ship.
How many rooms does one of those cruise ships hold and do they have any facilities at the dock for a speech, etc?
we looked into that, and the
we looked into that, and the idea of just renting a barge to put tents on. neither was cost effective.

Well, for $1000 per guest
you, too, can reserve a cruise ship.
:P
I would have thought about $100 per night if we booked
the whole ship to sleep there while its docked. But $1000 would be too expensive, but maybe there would be a farm we could use but then you have to pay for all the tents, etc
My apologies,
I don't actually know the per person cost of a cruise ship that is docked. I've been on a few cruises out of Tampa, though, and I estimated $1000 per night based on that cost. I imagine the real cost lies somewhere between us. Sorry! I was terribly frustrated and upset with the RNC holdup last night and reading over some of my comments, it looks like that frustration was showing.

Hold it in St Petersburg Florida.... I'd rather go there anyway!
And visit the St. Pete beaches!

Agree- Buy an option on St. Pete
Their worst nightmare is a bigger party close enough to Tampa to draw.. yet far enough to draw people away and they cant book the whole state. Distance in august in FL is all AC cab based. if its 500 yards or 5000 you are likely getting a cab.
Once they see you have 50K people going somewhere close enough to Tampa, they will realize everyone will be leaving the Tampa venue to hit the party in St. Pete at night. Then they will beg you back into the tent to keep the crowd local. Or the Fairgrounds will stick the RNC with the bill for lost business.
Push them on the negotiation and dont expect the sour grapes press to change their tune. They are out to stall you so the price of goods and the bands become hard to book and you get a low turnout due to escalating airfare and cost associated with last minute planning.

Tropicana Field?
The Rays have this space booked up. What was your idea for space? (By the way, traffic is horrendous in St. Pete., even without an event that might draw 50,000+ people.)
St. Pete traffic is NOT horrendous at all.
Compared with Tampa and Clearwater, St. Pete traffic is a DREAM. The streets are organized as a grid, which means there are multiple ways to get anywhere, and traffic is rarely backed up. Of course, I-275 can get backed up if there is a major accident, but this is pretty rare.
That said, East-West travel in St. Pete is slow, and getting out to the beaches takes a while.
St. Petersburg is a great city to visit, with a nice downtown on the waterfront.

What am I missing?
http://floridastatefair.com/facility-overview
Expo Hall - seats ~8,000
Entertainment Hall - seats 5,000 **booked** Aug 25-26 - Buckler's Craft Fair
Charles M. Davis Special Events Center - seats 3,000
Florida Center & Botanical Gardens - seats 1,350
Charlie Lykes Arena - seats 2,500 - can expand into barns ~7,000 seats (liberal estimate)
Equestrian Pavilion - seats 500
TOTAL INDOOR/COVERED CAPACITY - ~22,500
What am I missing? Tents? If I'm not missing anything you have 75,000 plus people with no shade.
August "dog days" in south Florida often bring a heat index between 105F-115F. For direct sunlight add 8-16F to the heat index. When the heat index creeps over 105F it becomes more and more uncomfortable and dangerous to stand outside for very long. A heat index of 115 is unbearable for most people after 10-15 minutes. Not just the old, young and sick.
I have lived on the Gulf Coast for nearly 50 years. My extended family has three medical doctors and seven nurses. Perhaps consider you are being naive and flippant about this issue and seek a professional opinion?
Even if nobody ends up having any heat-related health problems you could end up facing a mass exodus of disgruntled people...

You're missing the fun, I think. But:
Then there's Central Florida Fairgrounds:
Central Florida Fairgrounds
Facilities:
Main Exhibit Building
Dimensions: 36,000 sq. ft., or 5,000 seats
Additional Amenities: Restrooms, lounge/flyer, PA system
Social Hall
Dimensions: 1,000 sq. ft., or 1,000 seats
Additional Amenities: Full Kitchen and restrooms
Craft Hall
Dimensions: 7,155 sq. ft. or 1,500 seats
Commercial Building
Dimensions: 20,000 sq. ft. or 6,000 seats
Pavilion
Dimensions: 51,000 sq. ft. and covered or 15,000 seats
ie, at least 25,000 seats covered (not incl additional tents) and NO BOOKINGS DURING FEST DATES.
But what do I know.
Central Florida Fairgrounds is...
Orlando. What does that have to do with the price of genetically-modified kangaroos? :)

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~
Intense negotiations
require intense research/effort for alternatives.
p.s. Love the kangaroo reference.
:)
I forgot to notate...
I'm not personally against Orlando. I was referring to the seemingly unwavering commitment to the Tampa fairground.
I'm with ya on researching... :)

If RNC is NOT blocking, then RNC...
PUT UP OR SHUT UP!
Come on, RNC, I know you're reading this. Yield the space to the Paul Festival. The Tampa area needs the economic stimulus desperately.
And Paul Fest folks, if you don't hear back from RNC within 24 hours, assume that no answer is a "NO" answer, and find an alternative venue. (Central Florida Fairgrounds... we might just have a BIGGER, BETTER festival an hour or so away from Tampa, out from under the RNC thumb.)
Tired of the crap.
Accomodations
Wouldn't hotels etc., be less expensive and more plentiful outside the RNC area?
Absolutely.
Accommodations in the Orlando area are less expensive than Tampa, and also more plentiful. Orlando=tourist capital of America, basically.
Lots of stuff to do, too, with families.
edit: AND, for campers, the BEST camping spot in Orlando is...
Tropical Palms Resort

Call me mr negative but every Ron Paul song I hear makes me cringe. Perhaps they're allowing this festival because bad music makes Ron Paul look cheesy. But hey...different strokes....free to do what you want, and that's why I love Ron, regardless of the music.
