Pledge allegiance to the Constitution, not the flag.

So many are unaware that the 'Pledge of Allegiance' had its beginnings as a socialist statement. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance

This is how it is currently written,
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,
and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

I ask you, since this nation has become socialist, do YOU want to pledge allegiance to a flag of a socialist nation? Think about that. Are there better ways to express your support of freedom? Many US flags, like the one at the Pima GOP headquarters, are garnished with golden trim around its perimeter. That indicates that it is a flag of the US court system where many activist judges reign. In today's socialist America, when you pledge allegiance to a US flag, many are really pledging allegiance to its government, not the events and heroes that made our nation great. Is that what we should really pledge allegiance to?

What if we all began to recite a new version of the pledge of allegiance? Would it catch on?

How about this version, simply modified:
"I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America,
and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

What are your thoughts?

I always say,

...with liberty and justice for some." There sure isn't liberty and justice for all.

I don't like the indivisable part

We can't free people leave and form their own government? Why couldn't the south form their own country?

Do you mean the red, white and

Do you mean the red, white and blue that every "...ist" has wrapped(hid) themselves in(behind)?
It is blinded idol worship.

13 No servant can serve two masters; for either he shall hate the one, and love the other, or else he shall lean to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and riches. - Luke 16

I quit saying the pledge in high school, 1969.

At that time, the Vietnam war was going on, as well as the race riots, busing, etc. & there definitely definitely wasn't "liberty & justice for all." Since that time, it has continued to be the case. In HS, I didn't even stand up for the pledge. Now, I stand w/my hand on my heart, but I won't way the words.

Plus, who makes a pledge to a piece of cloth? Am I supposed to be some kind of mindless nut?

And lastly, no one has mentioned the fringe on the flag. Do you know what that means? Go look it up, then see if you want to pledge to that thing! Almost EVERY flag you'll see in gov't offices & courts is fringed. There's a reason for that pretty gold decoration, & it isn't nice, or constitutional!

"Under God" was added in the

"Under God" was added in the '50s out of a fear of communism. It is not a part of the original pledge. A relationship with God is personal, and should be separate from a pledge to a country's flag or to a state's Constitution.

The pledge would be trivia

The pledge would be trivia if they didn't insist that every kid has to start doing EVERY DAY beginning on the FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN. I hate it. It's jingoistic crapola in my opinion. And the audacity of the govt to force our children to say it daily is appalling.

I'll save my complaints about the 'under god' part for the dailyatheist.com and not bother anyone here :-)

Substance over Symbol-

Americans including myself are often enamored with our symbols while we neglect the very substance of things. We can get hoards to fly their flags and put yellow ribbons on trees and cars, but try to to get people to read and understand the Constitution or support our troops by keeping them out of undeclared wars and your swimming upstream.
(Hey,is that really what it means to be mainstream- always drifting downhill till we all end up in the ocean of undistinct meaninglessness?) Anyhow for a long time I've been telling people the flag is a symbol of certain and specific meaning to a few. To burn the flag is protected speech, but to burn a copy of the constitution would be to declare war against our common covenant/ contract between the citizens and their elected and delegated government. It would be like voiding the contract.
I for one groan over giving a pledge to a symbol, when I know the substance is in The Constitution of These United States of America.

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots. Responsible Gun ownership>> http://www.dailypaul.com/267885/no-guns-for-negroes-excellen......

A Pledge is like a poorly thought-out Tatoo

....We need a de-greaser or some kind of dermal abrasion over here STAT!

To pledge loyalty to a document that WAS NOT liked by most of it's signators 200+ years later is so painfully ignorant.

To pledge loyalty to a flag is even more so.

God does not demand a "pledge" writ by men or spoken aloud, only absolutists and tyrants do.

True, it was written by a socialist

It was meant to teach people to have loyalty first to their country/federal government, rather than God, their family, their friends, and their state/local governments. The original pledge did not include the phrase "one nation under God" and ended with "liberty, justice, and equality for all". It was changed during the cold war to be more anti-communist.

“It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till." -J.R.R. Tolkien

It was meant to move product.

Belamy was a card-carrying member of the Christian Socialist Party. But the pledge was commissioned to sell flags.

I do Declare

I pledge allegiance to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, and that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, I will strive to abolish it, and to institute new Government.

pledging aligance to the flag you are pledging to the Republic

That is founded on the Constitution the flag is only a symbol of that.
The Republic for which it stands.

Good counterpoint Maccheese51

I think it implies that you support the Constitution but it gets there in a roundabout way ie:

You are pledging allegiance to a flag which represents the republic which represents its Constitution.

Maybe a more direct pledge to the constitution is worth considering.

Or by simply inserting language into the pledge which directly addresses the constitution.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Well the pledge says

your pledging allegiance to the flag AND then it says AND to the republic for which it stands, so your pledging your allegiance to A)The flag, and then B) the republic for which the flag represents.

So in that sense your pledging your allegiance to the government of the USA, but then at the same time your pledging it to the republic. So in todays world, the pledge of allegiance is hypocritical.

Either your allegiance is to the USA as it is today which is a socialist fascist state, or it's to the republic of which our country is supposed to be.

You are forgetting one thing Time

When it was written we were a republic the Socialist fascist state did not exist. It is up to each us to help the Republic stand that's what Ben Franklin meant when he said a Republic if you can keep it.

No. What if something

No. What if something somehow gets written into it like slavery? Would you pledge to support that? How about pledging allegiance to liberty?

Why does Alex Jones insert a "submit to fear" subliminal message in his movies?

Food for thought. Well written.

You really raise some valid questions.

You asked: Since this nation has become socialist, do YOU want to pledge allegiance to a flag of a socialist nation?

I never thought of it that way. Nor did I know the author of the pledge was written by a socialist.

I may start thinking differently about the pledge now.

Thanks for this thought-provoking post.

A pledge to the constitution

A pledge to the constitution would definitely be an improvement over pledging to a flag. If the flag represents our country then we are pledging allegiance to a police state that invades and occupies other countries.

I don't do pledges.

I don't do pledges.

Subjects pledge allegiance

Citizens have no need to. It is a fraud anyway. The SCOTUS has ruled that citizens trade allegiance to the state in exchange for protection. The courts have also ruled the state has no duty to protect and any failure to do so doesn't make it liable. Since there is no duty to protect, there is no trade. Therefore, there are no citizens. I stopped repeating the pledge years ago. It is a worthless one way street. I wish they would bring back the original Bellamy salute. It seems more appropriate.
