Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death

I thought this a fitting Sunday read…I first came across it in my Citizens Rule Book and have looked this afternoon for a source document on the web. I found the information recopied several times, but never did find an original source. Perhaps you have an original source document for the following:

This lawyer, a former farmer and storekeeper, rode into Culpepper, Virginia in March, 1775. As he approached the center of town, he was disgusted and shocked by the sight that met his stare. In the middle of the towne square, a man was lashed to a whipping post, his back was bloody and raw, being laid bare by the metal-tips of the whip that had persecuted him. Henry inquired of the crowd what the man did to deserve such a beating as this. The answer was that he was a Preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, one of a dozen, who refused to take out a license to preach from the Anglican (English) church. The governor was under an edict from King George III to force all preachers to take the license and the 'renegade ministers' were put on trial - without the benefit of a jury. This particular minister had greatly resisted, declaring in court, "I will never submit to taking your license. I am controlled by the Holy Spirit, and authorized by God Almighty, and I will not allow you to control me by a license, no matter what you may do to me."

This man, and his (11) fellow preachers, were all publicly flogged for their 'treasonous behavior' - they had resisted to blood - and this man ... unto death. The beating he withstood was so brutal that the outraged Patrick Henry could count the man's ribs. The courage and thirst for liberty of this 'man of God' inspired Patrick Henry deeply. There is little doubt that the event blazed in his mind as he spoke a short while later the words that he would become most famous for - "give me liberty - or give me death” Continue reading here: http://www.truthontheweb.org/liberty.htm

Now you have it.

See we go from meek and mild until we have to hold ourselves from falling into to the precipice.

At some point this will present it's self and very soon I think. We will have to make a choice of life with liberty or death without.

I hope you have been well my friend. You have replaced yourself from a minimal position here at the DP to a very respected position.

Well done!

P.S That term "I don't do forums" no longer applies now does it my friend?

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.

Seems I missed your comment

earlier this month. Thank you for dropping in here...yes, it seems I do forums now! But only at the DP LOL

Glad to see you back.

Actually it should be taken literally..

A life devoid of Liberty, is no life at all. We send young men and women to die for Liberty.. Why is it we aren't willing to sacrifice if need be ourselves. Let someone else do it?

My tagline says it all for me. I am for peace as long as peace will work.

Patriot Cell #345,168
I don't respond to emails or pm's.
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution, inevitable.

Have lives to live. Take liberty! Live life!

Let us not take Patrick Henry's advise literally. I greatly respect what he wrote. Moreover, he was an impassioned orator & writer.

Though I have literary degrees bestowed upon me, my own advice shalt not be taken too literally either. Regards,

Veteran's Comments Requested

Hello my Sailor Friend, I immediately thought of you when I read that Veteran's comments have been requested http://www.dailypaul.com/comment/2621756

if you have any interest in expending some of your literary expertise it seems Mr. Leon has called Ron Paul a Lunatic in Veterans News Now: http://www.veteransnewsnow.com/2012/07/15/ron-paul-is-a-luna...

I submitted comments to the VNN this morning but they are still in moderation.

Take liberty or Pursue Liberty?

OK, I have put this off for days now, but I just have to say...perhaps for the last 200 or so years we have followed the axiom "Have lives to live. Take liberty! Take life!" and we have lost Liberty somewhere along the way to a despotic nation state. I somewhat think that Patrick Henry forfeited that comfort axiom and put his life on the line, or on hold, or perhaps made the business of his life the Pursuit of Liberty for All instead of taking liberty for himself alone.

I have hesitated making this comment because I do not want to be contentious, I do not have a literary degree, and I am not a history major; only a mere opinionated and concerned American. I would imagine you can debate circles around me, but I just wanted to offer my viewpoint for consideration.

I appreciate the time you have taken with my post and your comments as well.

Ron Paul pursues liberty. He does so for the benefit of us all.

Rhetorically writing, Patrick Henry was a marvel. He & Ron Paul both instill passion for liberty (see 1st definition).

As a young sailor, I enjoyed many a liberty. Oft took it without waiting for it to be granted (see 4th definition).

I too am an opinionated and concerned American. I hope we both remain so. Thank you for your kind words. Best wishes.
lib·er·ty noun \ˈli-bər-tē\

First Known Use: 14th century

My Dear Mr. Twain,

It is that 3rd definition that I think of when the word “take” is used in conjunction with "liberty:"

3 : an action going beyond normal limits: as
a : a breach of etiquette or propriety : familiarity
-- (deleted because risks and chances are necessary for the Pursuit of true Liberty)
c : a violation of rules or a deviation from standard practice
d : a distortion of fact

Should that type of liberty be taken?

Perhaps it is that type of liberty that takes the occasion to take away Liberty as defined in definitions 1, 3 & 4.

Truly, the Patrick Henrys and Ron Pauls inspire those Friends of Liberty among us to Pursue Liberty.

In case you haven’t been told lately, and never by me, “Thank you for abdicating Liberty as a young sailor in the Pursuit of Liberty for Americans, and this opinionated American, me.”

Wise words indeed.

Your wording is succinct to your point. Thanks & you're welcome.

Thank you, Sir!

It has been a pleasure to converse.

"We wrestle not against flesh and blood

but against principalities and against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

"Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might"

This, is where our hope must be!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Mr. Holbrook,

I am feeling very wesk today after seeing spiritual wickedness in high places yesterday at the RNC. You see, I have had my head in truth and honesty nearly my whole life and did not recognize that such evil blatantly exists...and then after the lying, stealing and cheating the Oak Ridge Boys sing “Amazing Grace” after Cheap Trick played earlier in the day.

What a cheap trick to give a tribute to grace in the midst of a den of thieves accompanied a bunch of naïve people.

I don’t know what to do next. My parents are Christians, they insist that I put my head back into the sand. I am nearly 50. What can be accomplished in a quarter of a century to secure liberty for my posterity?

Excuse me.. I'm butting in

What you witnessed was an act of desperation by the RNC. They just proved we are winning. They had to lie, cheat and steal to remain in the game, futhermore they had to adopt many of Ron Paul's issues for their platform. That's a HUGE WIN.

What we do now is the golden rule.. they held us to our loyalty oaths to the party... we will hold them to our loyalty oaths to the constitution.

WE ARE WINNING HUGE. The ones who don't see it are under the influence of MSM.

This is a time of fight or flight... many are running away. But there's more than enough staying to fight, for this is a great fight... we are armed with the Constitution.

We Are The Future.

We will win.

Granger I welcome you with open arms!

Thank you for butting in Granger. I am always happy to hear from you. I have wondered about your thoughts after the events of Tuesday. Thank you for giving them. Granger, I have to admit, I am shaken. How can one even win when engaging with liars, cheaters, and thieves? That is what troubles me. For all we know they can just kick everyone out of their local seats and reseat them with insiders. I say this because in the public eye they unseated duly elected Main delegates. What makes you think that they cannot unseat you? I am not saying that in a mean way, I am saying that out of pure desperation. And also probably out of that FEAR word. You are a brave one my dear. God be with you.

I am just about mad enough to march myself down to my local GOP and report for duty. But you see, I couldn’t even keep the boys clothes straight after trying to see what they could wear to school this year. Chemo, age, and multiple surgeries have left my intelligence scrambled. I do not think fast on my feet. I can’t even count to 10 when taking attendance in my Sunday School class without losing concentration. I am also very abrasive when stating my opinion. I have so many reasons, and I wonder if there is a place where I would fit in? I never participated in school committees because basically, I like to work alone.

And Granger, I am a purist. I can't play the games. I do not think I would have been able to do what Rand did last night when endorsing Romney when his own father and the voice of the Liberty Delegates had been publically ignored at that convention. I would have come out speaking the truth and committed political suicide and let the chips fall where they may, or so I think in my untested person. We may not have 4 more years. What do you think Granger?

((((((( bear ))))))))

Each GOP central committee is registered in each county and state. We take loyalty oaths, not just to the party, but to the constitution. For them to change the local by-laws, it has to go through each committee.. my committee has them outnumbered. We just voted against the state GOP's recomendations. We are holding them to the constitution like they held us to the party by-laws. The difference is, when we break a party by-lw, they can remove us from the committee. When they break the constitution, we can have them imprisoned for treason. Think we won't? They have already given us a reason.

Rand's endorsement is a message to those of us on committees, many who might not have even been given a copy of the by-laws, so they wouldn't know. Ron Paul and Rand speak to us in generalities.. it's important we follow their leads.

The government today is not the one Ron Paul served. Ron stood alone while the government lost it's way. Now there are hundreds of us, and that makes us a threat to those who want us to lose our way. So we must work within the laws as they are not ignoring us as they ignored Ron Paul. Ron is not running for office, he is free. We are not, nor is Rand. So Rand is like a bridge.

Notice he only said Romney once.. the rest of his speach was there to remind the GOP about the American dreams and what it is to have the freedom to make something of your life.

I think that the seated Ron Paul Republicans are going to make a huge difference in fighting Obama and the Democrats, as we will hold them to the Constitution as well.

As for your personal life ((((((bear)))))).. if you want to get something done, ask a busy person.

Maybe you can go to ONE committee meeting just to see for yourself what YOUR committee is doing. Anyone can attend as a guest and ask questions. When I went, there were two people eating lo mein in a Chinese restaurant known for trafficing (we don't meet there any more). One of them goes to my Church. They tried to get the Church agaisnt me. It backfired. Preist voted for Ron Paul.

Good Morning Granger

Are you familiar with:

I appreciate your advice: "Maybe you can go to ONE committee meeting just to see for yourself what YOUR committee is doing."

Go to ONE. How easy can that be! One little step! I am usually a detail person, but I think in this case I see an insurmountable wall. I just need to take one step at a time. Thank you, Granger. I am thinking that maybe joint participation in both groups might be a good direction as I do not feel I can stand on my own and am not yet wise or knowledgeable enough to understand all the nuances of Liberty.

I certainly don’t want to get involved with the wrong people so I am asking if you have any knowledge of the RLC. Thank you!

Also wanted to say, I am sorry the people in your church turned on you. I find that it hurts most when people we are vulnerable to turn on us. I am glad you had the ear of your Priest and that he voted Ron Paul! My “pastor” did so as well…he is my husband LOL.

Good Morning (((((( bear )))))))

When I went to my first meeting, there were two people, a woman who teaches catechism at my Church, the one who opposed me, and the Deacon of the Luthern Church. Those two control my committee.

The woman, lost, and the Church did not side with her, but me.

The committee is local, the RLC is not. So all I'm saying to you dearest bear, is if you want to see for yourself, what is going on in your own community, go to one meeting. How that is a wall? I don't know. My guess is you will find maybe a half dozen people, and possibly a few of them Ron Paul Republicans.

MSM has many of us under their influence. MSM is the wall. You can accept what they say as truth and search elsewhere, or you can go see for yourself who is representing YOU.

The majority of people want us to win, they just don't want to help.

Many people live in fear. I don't. Christ is my light, and I KNOW he's got my back and heart, so I don't worry about the details, as Christ will reveal to me what I need to know.

For everything we are seeing, I AM happy, perhaps because I KNOW, though I may be tested, and those tests can be hard, as long as I turn to Christ, I WILL BE IN COMMUNION.

I am winning, my committee is far more about liberty than when I first began attending, and the woman from my Church, even though she is treasuer, rarely shows up. Last meeting she showed up, I bought her breakfast. TURN THE OTHER CHEEK.

Whatever you decide bear, I continue to pray God blesses you and yours abundantly and constantly.

Hey Granger, I did not make

Hey Granger, I did not make myself clear. What I was seeing as a "wall" you showed me was a single step.

I think I can take a single step! Sorry I didn't make that clear.

What I was trying to say is that you helped me look past what I saw as a wall and directed me to a very simple action that even I can take...a single step.

Was also wanting your thoughts on the RLC. Do you think they are legit as far as on board with Ron Paul, or do you not know since they are not local to you?

Kuddos to you Granger! Love you, Have a great day :)

Ohhh OK

Thank you for clearing it up bear. I think you'll enjoy it.

I am very cautious about PACs and Committees that are associated with causes, people, issues, because it usually ends up all they do is ask you for more money, and you wind up at most with a bumper sticker.

Many people use Ron Paul and his name for personal reasons. Campaign 4 Liberty is Ron Paul's, so that's the only one I trust, and they focus on younger people, which is a good thing, but doesn't do much for the older people. Focus is good. If I had kids, I would be more interested and getting them involved and making contributions to support their involvement. I would be willing to sponsor a local kid, IF they took a committee seat.

Thank you Granger :)

I appreciate your input more than you know :)

Thank you bear ;)

I appreciate your love and light, and hope you KNOW that! :)

I wished I had and answer bear

My trust is always in the Lord no matter what it is in life that comes or goes. Never put you head in the sand!

We are told not to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of the things of itself and that there is enough evil for today to be concerned about.

Trust in God, pray for wisdom and peace and guidance and always pray for faith to endure these trials and troubles.
God has you in His hand always, and these troubles help us to trust more and more in Him.

These troubles are only for a while and ONLY in this life!
Never forget that!

Cheer up sister, and know that God loves you and cares for you and He wants you to set your heart not on the things of this life, but of that which is to come.

I will keep you in my prayers and I ask you keep my in yours.

Our day of joy is soon coming and it will be without end!

Peace everyone

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Thank You Mr. Holbrook,

I appreciate your reminder to me from the Word of Truth. I am new to all of this and it has completely shaken my physical foundation. Not that Rock of my Salvation, but those things that I thought I knew and believed to be true about my country and my surroundings. I am having a very difficult time orientating myself in this new reality. Surely as all those things are stripped away, all that remains is that One Rock, the Lord Jesus Christ. I must make my footing sure.

Your words have reminded me: Proverbs 3:1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

I am also reminded that the battle surely is an evil one and only the Lord can be entreated: Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

I must learn to spend more time in prayer these days. It is difficult to be still. Thank you for your testimony here at the DP. I knew who to reach out to because I have seen the witness of your words before. May God strengthen and bless you as you continue to seek Him.

A song that always reminds me.....

Hello again sister bear,

Very often I look out my window and see a sparrow or two feeding, and it always reminds me of this song and of Him who loves me.

His Eye Is On The Sparrow

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

"Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whatever your troubles may be sister bear, He will get you through them.

Our eternal joy is awaiting and NOTHING can change that!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

His Eye is on the Sparrow!

Matthew 10:28 And fear *not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fallon the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head areall numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Thank you

Holbrook and Bear-THANKS SO MUCH!

Thanks for the encouraging reminders from God's Word. Emotions are churning and I'm having difficulty putting my thoughts into words but it is so comforting to come to this sight and find people of like mind.

I hesitated to listen to RP's Sun Dome speech in light of the way the convention was shaping up. I love Ron Paul and I'm thankful for his leadership over the past decades. I finally listened to the first half of his speech a few nights ago and intended to finish it but the events of the last few days have grieved me so much that I can't bear hearing this Stateman's wise words after watching how he has been treated. Maybe some day.....

Thank you LiveFreeOrDie and Bear

Yes it is a blessing to find people here that are of the same mind, and there are quite a few! Praise God!

We've got to remember to keep in prayer, every day and throughout the day, pray to OUR Heavenly Father who loves us!

Let us pray for His guidance, His strength, His widsom and let us keep one another in prayer daily, as we are told to do, and let us leave it ALL with Him.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord and He will sustain thee, He will never suffer the righteous to be moved" ~Psalm 55:22~

No matter what happens, or doesn't happen, we are in His hands!

Peace everyone!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Finding Comfort

I find comfort in God's Word! I was needing some and knew that I'd seen Mr. Holbrook stand on that Word. I unfortunately have allowed myself to become consumed with current events to the detriment of my spiritual wellbeing.

Yes, this is an strange time we are seeing in our Land from Sea to Shining Sea, but there are patriots. Look here:

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/traces-of-reality starting at about time 35:00 You will see our Patriots open in prayer and take stand! My only participation since 18 has been to vote. I think it may be time to stand along side them and do something?

Matthew 10:28 And fear *not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Proverbs 25:11

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Thank you!
