I know you have a lot of problems, so have we in the UK. Problem is we have no one like Ron Paul to stand behind. Could some of you sane people help out just a little by digging up this story. I want the world to know about our governments.

Thanks a bundle guys

Thanks for the Diggs. The movement goes on...
When Ron Paul wins, I'll be picking up my immigration papers. :)

While I'm here, can I draw parallels which may spark inspiration in some of you, and used in debate?

For all those people in your country who say that if we withdraw from Iraq, and let the people of Iraq decide on their destiny, there will be more terror. Tell them this little mentioned story.

For nearly 40 years there was terrorism in the UK like you's guys could not imagine. IRA, UDA etc etc bombs every WEEK. Shootings and murders EVERY DAY, in both Northern Ireland, and the UK mainland (sensibly the govt of the Irish Republic did not get into entangling alliances, and none in ?Scotland? I might add). This went on for YEARS... we send more troops, we get more terror, more terrorists, more dead troops, more dead civilians, more population segregation, more hatred, then we send some more troops with bigger guns to keep the people 'apart', we get more bombs, even more extreme attacks. So more troops... i can go on...
It 'felt' like the people of Ireland hated us 'British'. All Irish men in the UK were looked upon as a 'possible terrorist' and Roman Catholics were marginalized, innocent people thrown into jail on fabricated evidence. Some of the people of AMERICA supported the IRA's fight for freedom, but we British continued because we knew best.
We fucked over plenty of other countries too during those times. Argentina, Iraq, Lebanon, etc, etc.
Anyway, a political movement called 'New Labour' (Obama draws some parallels) promised to solve our terrorism woes without a McCain style approach. They told the people of Northern Ireland to sort it out for themselves, and they HELPED them in anyway they could by the means of dialog. Today, Northern Ireland is thriving. IRA terrorism in the UK and NI has fallen to ZERO. These terrorists do not exist anymore (It took all of 10 years). And where are our troops now? Well they are no longer needed in Northern Ireland, so we sent them all to Afghanistan and Iraq.
Sure, there may still a couple of old school 'extremists' around in Northern Ireland, but there is no one there to preach to now. The next generation will be free of these evil people.

It's just a pity that Mr Tony Blair did this only for political gain, and not on grounds of morality, as he has so proven with the Iraq debunckle.

You's guys are so lucky. You have a constitution to base your morality on. All we have over here, is the bible.

Good luck.

The Bible is hardly a shabby foundation . . .

The Bible is hardly a shabby foundation . . . the biggest problem is that most Bible thumpers seem to be thumping their Bibles as a way to remove the dust that gathers because they don't actually *read* their Bibles regularly, except perhaps for a few pet passages that apparently lend legitimacy to their agenda.

But the U.S. Constitution would have been impossible without the Bible; it is very much the product of a Christian culture and comports well with the Bible. (Obviously, not completely.)

Remember, even if somehow the people of the U.K. could be persuaded to adopt a constitutional document that you would consider to be ideal, that by itself could not protect the U.K. -- any more than the U.S. Constitution by itself has been able to protect the USA. It's not an amulet. The spirit of the Constitution must be inscribed on the tablets of the people's hearts. People must be governed from within by internalized principles. That's why the Bible is actually your best ally -- if people are actively endeavoring to obey the teachings of Jesus in the way they live their lives, the society will be well off indeed, but without that, the society is largely ungovernable except through the coercive measures that our governments use now.

Gun Rights

This is another issue we will be fighting for, but can you imagine trying to sell this to the British public, no matter the information you give and the philosophical arguments you make (state monopoly of force).

Gun rights can be restored incrementally

I suppose you have seen this --

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/law/article31...

I think there is some hope. Basically you have to restore the idea that people are to be held accountable for their actions and then you'll be able to get gun ownership restored. Without that you will never have a chance, but if people buy into the other ideas of liberty, they'll buy into allowing gun ownership as well.

Here in Japan I was a gun owner but gave it up as it was too much of a hassle (too much red tape), and the use of firearms for self-defence is verboten anyway.

The Republican Liberty Party (RLP)

We are in the process of starting up a new party called the Republican Liberty Party (RLP) in the UK. Its still at the very early stages but its on its way. the problem is im just not sure how much people in the UK are going to want to hear the freedom message in its true form, not freedom through government which we are brainwashed with in schools but freedom for the individual. No more centrallised welfare state, NHS, government schools, state pensions, EU, income tax, sales tax, CCTV, end the war on drugs, major troop withdrawl and a complete overhaul of the UK political system, no more bank of england, removal of the queen and the position of prime minister as we turn this country into a constiutional republic, a country of checks and balances 2 fully elected houses and a president. People here have no concept of freedom, for example alot of the people i speak to about our new party believe the income tax is a good thing as it redistributes the wealth and just buy into the scoialist propagandha that we are indoctrinated into at school. So many of us have been brainwashed, we've never had a history of liberty minded people, we do not have the legacy of jefferson, or even recent great liberty movements like the Barry goldwater of 1964, so the struggle will be hard but we must fight the fight and i amoung many others will standing for election in 2009.

Where do I join.

Sounds like it'll never work. I'd be more than willing to help out though...

Liberty

I'm from the UK myself, and I've had the same experience as you when talking to people about Ron's positions, but to be honest, I've only started thinking about liberty, inflation etc since I've been following Ron paul's campaign, and I don't think I'm the most clued up advocate, but I'm learning fast. :)

I wouldn't bother with the whole poltical party thing at the moment, I think that's a step too far right now. However, there is definitely plenty of room to get a UK conversation started about what liberty means. There isn't even a UK based blog to discuss libertarianism, as far as I can tell.

Is it really necessary to get rid of the monarchy?

Personally, I think it would be a good idea to get rid of the monarchy -- primarily because to me as a Christian it is repugnant that the king or queen should be the head of a church -- but is it really necessary? I think that would be a major sticking point for many Brits. You *might* even be able to make the case that the monarchy -- if it was spiritually healthy -- could be a positive force in resisting the tendency to drift into socialist democracy. I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud here and I'm sure you have thought about it much more than I have. (I'm an American.)

Remember -- this is true everywhere -- the main problem in every country is spiritual. You can also say that they are moral issues, but those are just two different ways of pointing to the same thing.

I wish you all the best. I am also working for similar reforms in Japan, and the more progress that people make in one country, the more kindred movements in all other countries will benefit.

Ron Paul supporters in the USA, please keep this in mind -- you're not just doing this for the USA. What you do has immense global significance.

The Monarchy is the Biggest Hurdle

I don't mind the monarchy, but I'm well pissed off having to pay for it, and be subject to it, and religion shouldn't near.
It'll need a monarch (maybe Prince Charles when he is crowned King) to speak out on the subject before anything happens.
