The Iowa State Convention begins Friday, June 15 at 6:00pm CDT

Who: Iowa State Convention delegates and alternates

When: Friday, June 15 at 6:00pm CDT

Where:
Hy-Vee Hall
730 3rd St
Des Moines, IA

Why: Iowa's 28 National delegates are all unbound, and 25 of them will be selected this weekend. If Dr. Paul obtains a majority of the Iowa National delegates, it is certain that it will count as one of the five state pluralities needed to place Dr. Paul's name into nomination in Tampa. Moreover, not having Iowa in his column will make it much more difficult for Dr. Paul to get on the nomination ballot. In short, Iowa is critical.

Note: Each of Iowa's 4 congressional districts are assigned 3 National Convention delegates. Thus, a total of 12 district delegates will be chosen in Congressional District Caucuses. These CD breakout sessions will take place on Friday evening, with registration starting at 6:00pm. Liberty delegates, if you don't show up until Saturday, you will have missed out on selecting nearly half of the Tampa delegates! If at all feasible, get there Friday night!

The Saturday schedule opens with registration starting at 7:45am, with the Call to order set for 9:30am. The schedule calls for electing the 13 At Large Tampa delegates in the morning, with the afternoon focusing on the Platform and on Congressional candidates.

In addition, 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Iowa's Republican Party, will attend the convention as unpledged delegates by virtue of their position. Since the Iowa State Chairman is a Paul supporter, we will have at least 1 of these 3 "bigwig" delegates.

Iowa delegates, please remember that Liberty supporters now largely control the State GOP. Please do not attend with an "outsider" mindset, intent on protesting; you would be protesting against our own people! Instead, let's show everyone how a convention is supposed to be run, with fairness and transparency. Videotaping is allowed!

We are counting on you, Iowa State Convention delegates and alternates! Please show up and, if possible, show up on Friday! Thank you!

Just waking up after a marathon Convention

Got home from Des Moines at 12:30am this morning. All our folks from Jackson Co. showed up. it was a long grueling day by the time they gaveled out. The opposition threw everything they had. They tried to overturn the recommended slate determined by the Nominating Committee. They tried to change the rules. Ultimately.... they did not have enough votes and we won the slate which you all know by now..

We kept marching after we spread the word about Ron and his message in 07-08. We eagerly awaited the start of this presidential nominating process. My friends and I marched to Ames to Support Ron in the Straw Poll last year, Then on to the Caucus and then on to the District Conventions and then on to State.. We Finished what we started here in Iowa. At times disappointed and dejected but never giving up. I think we should all be very proud of what we have accomplished here in Iowa and around the country. We are well positioned to make Liberty and adherence to the Constitution a litmus test for those who would seek to govern and legislate.

All I can say to my national delegates from the great state of Iowa ... Keep Marching us towards Tampa.. We are the future of this party and we are affecting change. It may take a while to turn the ship around but were on deck and making our way to the helm.

Happy Fathers Day!

Context

Iowa has 28 delegates.

12 are from 4 Congressional Districts (each CD has 3 delegates). Those were elected on Friday, and, apparently (see below), 11 out of 12 are Ron Paul supporters!

There are also 13 "at large" delegates, to be selected Saturday night by a state convention over which Ron Paul supporters seem to have a lot of control.

Finally, there are 3 RNC delegates. Not sure how those get picked. Anyone know?
Out of 28, 15 is a majority. So if 11 of the CD delegates are ours, we only need 4 of the at large delegates to control the Iowa delegation!

Ok

I keep seeing these conventions coming up. How in the hell can Ron assume he doesn't have the delegates needed if conventions are still happening? I'm getting more confused and more irritated about this. I still have no clue on the total delegate count for Paul and Romney. :^(

It ain't over til it's over.

That's my philosophy, anyway. Call me a crazy paulbot.
